Great experience with a fantastic crew
This trip was amazing - we did the 3D2N, which was plenty to see everything. We got to see lots of orangutang at the three different feeding stations, as well as macaques. And then proboscis monkeys along the river. We also did the night trek, which was really interesting. It was also lovely going along on the boat and getting to see the sights and sounds of the river, including the villages, birds and even a few crocodiles! One of the highlights was our last night, where we stopped to sleep under a tree filled with hundreds of fireflies. It was beautiful, and completely unforgettable. Our crew (Dody our guide, Acil Aluh our cook, and Agus, Yani and Boy) were all so friendly and lovely, making us feel comfortable and at home. The only thing I’d warn of is truly how basic the boat is. The toilet has no flush (you have to scoop river water from a barrel and pour it down) and the shower is cold and full of bugs. If you’re not keen on insects (like me) they’re also hard to deal with. They are everywhere, constantly, especially at night when they’re attracted to the light of the boat. However the mosquito net does work well and gave us somewhere to hide at night. However, we do accept this is an unavoidable part of being in the jungle and something you have to deal with to see the wildlife.

    Wonderful experience
Wow... Where do you even begin to describe a trip like this? On the one hand, there are simply no words... The sight of not just one but several wild orangutans is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life, but there is so much more to this trip that is worth every single penny and more to do. Firstly, we experienced a bad start to our trip when our connecting flight to PKN was delayed by 9 hours but none-the-less, Dessy the project organiser was in constant contact with us and reassured us our trip would be amended to still fit the programme. Dessy was a constant source of reassurance during a tough time anxious about whether we'd actually get our flight. Once we did arrive, we were greeted by Dessy and our guide Tegun (Gu) who showed us to the boat and our boat family we'd be living for with for the next 3nights. Key points of the trip without trying to spoil things - The interactions in the forest are well balanced and fantastic with each of the viewing stations having orangutan's present and also seeing them in the wild. Note: this is not guaranteed so you have to be lucky - The food on board was sensational with every meal being dined like a king and queen - Gu was a terrific guide and host helping us understand the rich history of Indonesia and so much more - The houseboat is amazing to sleep in and wake up on the river every morning All in all, this is one of the best experiences we've ever had and thoroughly worthwhile investing in. It's not only raising awareness to a brilliant yet heart-breaking cause but I promise you will not regret it.

    Amazing Borneo Boat Tour
We did the 3d2n tour and loved everything about our experience. Dessy was super helpful with booking and also great tips on booking flights. The boat surpassed our expectations - there was even a full bathroom on board. The food was the best we've had all holiday in Indonesia - varied, well prepared and delicious! We weren't left hungry at any point. Our guide, Guh, was very knowledgeable and taught us not only about the wildlife and plants, but also the local indigenous people - the Dayak. We also went on a night walk the first night. Last but not least we saw lots of wildlife, including Orangutans. It was truly a wonderful experience and we can highly recommend Orangutan Applause! .

Once in a life time experience made by the people
We did a 4D 3N trip which was very well organised and everything surpassed our expectations. The crew were very good and the food, cooked by the chef, was tasty and varied (you didn’t go hungry at any point!). We are vegetarian and it was well catered for. The boat we were on was in great condition and we had no problems however we did see other companies boats breaking down. Dessy was good at communicating prior to the trip and ensured it went smoothly. The schedule was busy and packed, so you were never bored. We really enjoyed the 8 km trek and the boat journey. Our guide Farah was amazing. She was engaging, enthusiastic and answered all our questions and more. She was knowledgable and gave good information from the get go. Her English was really good which made asking questions super easy. She went above and beyond to make our trip unforgettable while treating the animals respectfully and not being invasive.

    Amazing tour
We did the 3D2N tour and it was everything we could have wanted. Dessy was the best, she was so helpful and sweet throughout, from booking, to helping us with accommodation before and after, helping us book our taxi even after our tour was over. She was the absolute best! We saw orangutans at feeding stations found in each of the camps we visited. Rudy our guide always made sure to point out everything there was near us (from wildlife to insects etc), to see as much as possible and also learn. He was the best. The whole crew was amazing and made the trip amazing. It is an experience that shouldn’t be missed when visiting Borneo!

    Magical experience ✨🤍
This tour was really a dream becoming true for us, we were so lucky to have Alan as a tour guide ! He was the best guide ever, so caring and he gave us many informations about everything we stumble upon. He really knows lot of things about the jungle and the local orangutans and we can tell he’s very passionate about his work and Borneo wild life ! He and the team always did their best to give us the best experience at every point of our journey, and the candlelight dinners on the river was magical ✨ and the food made by Alan’s grandmother was always delicious ! We recommend this tour 1000%, just go for it if you are a nature lover you won’t regret it ! Thank you again 🙏🏼🤍

Amazing trip, friendly staff, comfortable boat and loads of orangutans! Once in a life time experience made perfect by this company! We felt so safe and informed the whole time! Our guide used to be a ranger so was so knowledgable and was constantly teaching us about the animals and plants in the forest! The food was delicious and plentiful, we never went hungry! Amazing experience
We had such an amazing time on our 2 night trip along the rivers visiting orangutan feeding stations on the way. Corresponding with Desi to organise it was very easy and it was lovely to meet her! Our guide, Pung, really was lovely - so knowledgeable, passionate and a pleasure to share our trip with. The boat was very comfortable, especially the bed on the deck, and cruising along the river looking for wildlife was so relaxing, The bathroom facilities are basic but adequate and it’s only for a few nights. rest of the crew were also great and the cook created fantastic food in such a small place. Observing the orangutans was a really magical experience and the trip is one we’ll never forget.

    Fabulous Immersion Trip
The two night/ three day boat tour was perfect! Our guide, Alan, was extremely knowledgeable and fun. Passionate about the National Park and his mission to share it. Alan made this trip shine. Airport transfers were seamless. The food was excellent Indonesian fare, and they carefully accommodated my child's food allergy. A lot of fried food and fried fish, which was delicious, but if it's not your thing you can explain that in the emails ahead. Sleeping was surprisingly comfortable. Thick mattresses in the open air deck. If you want a cabin with a/c from a different company, they run the generator all night to power it. And then you don't get to hear the hundreds of proboscis monkeys at dawn like you do on this tour! We loved the total immersion in the jungle sounds from Orangutan Applause. Only suggestion is, if you aren't comfortable standing for 90 minutes at a viewing/feeding station, you consider taking an easily portable stool. This tour company doesn't take you to the viewing way far ahead, because that would be dull, so other tours have the limited seating. I think it was great planning to drop into the crowds at the last minute (the boat wasn't boxed in by others) but then all the seats are taken. This was a spectacular trip. Alan is the best. And you'll love Bob the Gibbon, I promise. PS don't forget to tip Alan and the crew.

    Wow!!! Simply Wow!!!!
I cannot begin to put into words how amazing this experience is. We spent 3 days on one of the many boats that navigate these amazing waters through this unforgettable land. Pung, our guide was not only a total delight but there is nothing she wouldn't do to make our experience more memorable and comfortable. Her passion for what she does is intoxicating and I feel we have made a friend for life. Thank you for everything Pung and keep that beautiful smile until the next time we meet

    An experience of a lifetime
We spent 4D3N on the boat in March and it was one of the best experiences we have ever had. Booking was easy and Dessy is super helpful and responsive to messages. With a crew of 4, including the captain, a deckhand, a cook, and our wonderful guide, Alan, we spent the next 4 days in awe of the scenery and the wild animals. Alan speaks perfect English and knows the names and relationships of all the orangutans at each feeding station as well as the long history of Prof. Galdikas’ work at Camp Leakey. He took us on night and day hikes, a canoe ride, and to each of three feeding stations. Always making sure we were enjoying ourselves and pointing out all the animals he spotted along the way. As a local, he was also able to tell us about Indonesian culture and stories of growing up in a nearby village. At each feeding station we watched the local guides spread bananas and sweet potatoes on the raised wooden platforms as the orangutans swung through the trees to eat. We were able to get plenty of photos and videos including probosis monkeys, and Bob the gibbon. The food on the boat was outstanding, varied, very plentiful. We were certainly never hungry. At night, we slept on mattresses on the deck which had clean, fresh sheets every night. Although we had mosquito nets and used bug spray, we still got bites. I would suggest bringing pajamas to cover arms and legs if you’re susceptible to bites. The shower and toilet facilities on the boat are extremely basic, but it’s all part of the adventure. We spent all our time on the upper deck while the crew slept inside on the lower deck. There are low wooden railings around the perimeter of the deck which may be a safety concern if you’re bringing young or very active children onboard. Overall we had an amazing adventure due to the the wonderful team at OrangutanApplause and we hope to do it again one day.

    Unforgettable experience with orangutan applause
Very trustworthy company, we had a great time. We booked de 2 nights 3 days tour. Our guide was Jefry and he was great together with the boat crew off course. They really tried to show us everything and they succeeded. Orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macaque monkeys, bob the gibbon monkey, birds, spiders and even a crocodile and some dolphins. The boat was surprisingly comfortables, especially for being in the middle of the Jungle and we had great local home cooked food. It was really an unforgettable experience for the whole family. I would definitely recommend them if you want to book this kind of trip!

Great trip to see the Orangutans
We booked with Desi for a 3D2N tour. She handled everything easily and was very responsive. We are a family of 5 who had a great trip to see the Orangutans and lots more. Our boat was lovely and clean, cooking great. Also Desi booked a great tour guide in Hosni who taught us a lot. What an experience. Thanks

    A must do in Borneo
Me and my friend booked this tour for 4 days and 3 nights, and it’s been a huge highlight of our trip. The whole crew (Jordan, Anto, Yanti and Amat) were incredible. Jordan was our guide and was very informative, providing us with knowledge and understanding of birds, insects and of course orangutans! Yanti was a phenomenal cook and provided us with a diverse range of vegetarian options each day. We were always comfortable, being provided with fresh bedding, towels, hot tea, cold drinks and snacks each day. Dessy, the co-owner, also provided us with gift bags full of Bornean snacks and organised a transfer to our hotel and to the airport the following day which was really kind and helpful.

Dessy and Arif organised a wonderful 3 day experience for us in Tanjung Puting park. Everything from the airport pickup to our departure the day after out boat trip finished was taken care of for us!

The klotok was beautifully refurbished and extremely comfortable - sunbeds, bean bags and even hot water from a tank (rather than river water) are available on board. Food is delicious and we probably had enough to feed twice as many people!

Knowing that only 1 feeding station was open, Arif and Dessy customised our tour to include longer day treks, a canoe trip and more time cruising through the river, increasing our chances of seeing wild orangutan and other animals.

It was the small touches that made the trip extra special - cold towels were waiting for us after every walk/trek, overnight sleeping spots were carefully chosen to ensure we would wake up in the most beautiful places and Arif's limitless enthusiasm was contagious, especially on our night walk 😍

On arriving back to Pangkalan Bun, Arif arranged a morning city tour for our last day and Dessy ensured we were able to take our rapid tests at the hotel without any hassle.

Overall, it was a wonderful trip and we felt very lucky to experience the park without throngs of tourists.

Dear Kim, Thank you very much for getting back with your fabulous review. I am so happy to see that. Really appreciate your every single detail of view, including the cold towel and customized itinerary since only 1 camp can be visited. Now, starting last week, The National Park Agency has reactivated another camp Pondok Tanggui, so now visitors can visit 2 camps. Come back to visit again and I will bring you to the Traditional Market again, hehehe BR, Arif

From the very beginning Dessi was a great partner in helping us plan our visit. With covid restrictions just relaxed we were pretty unsure about booking a trip for a trip on some kind of boat up a swampy river in Borneo to say the least! Her quick, clear responses to all our queries were very reassuring.
Nonetheless we were still not quite sure how it would actually work out, as we arrived dessi helped us out and into a car to the boat where we met Arif our guide and the crew of the boat, from that point on Arif was extremely informative as we cruised up a river. Having worked with the orangutan foundationa and at the national park his commitment to orangutan preservation was clear from the start.
We highly recommend Orangautan Applause!

Dear Jason, Thank you for sharing your experience having a great time with us. Really appreciate it. You are right, rainforest and wildlife conservation, including Orangutan is must be above of ecotourism. It is a challenge to keep it on sustainable. I can not wait to see your pictures you have taken during the tour. Hehhee Best regards, Arif

We did the 3D2N tour with our son of 2,5 years and we were spoiled from the 1st until the very last minute!
Dessy and Arif are both very professional yet very kind people with a big heart.

From the minute we entered the Klotok (houseboat), Arif made us feel like we were home. He speaks English very well and introduced us to the nicest staff. Everyone on the boat was very helpful and caring for our son. They even took some measurements to make the boat extra safe for a 2 year old toddler.

We had a perfect tour with many encouters with the orangutans. Arif and the team are masters in spotting wildlife while cruising the riverside. We saw many Probiscus monkeys, various bigger and smaller wildlife. Even sounds were identified.

The food was delicious and suited to a toddler, he liked everything. From the fresh fish & vegetables to the delicious snacks and juicy fruits.

We didn’t have to worry about anything, everything was arranged very well by Dessy and we had the best adventure with our small family.

Thank you for making the most incredible memories.
I would highly recommend this organisation. Even for family trekking, they make the perfect fit!

This was by far one of our favourite experiences in all our travels and we hope to return again. Communications prior to arrival were so easy and Dessy was quick to respond to all questions. They made arrivals and departures at the airport incredibly smooth. The trip itself was peaceful, and informative/educational. Our guide Arif was incredibly knowledgeable with professional biology experience to draw upon. We were fortunate to see 7 of 9 primates in the region. There was more than enough delicious food even between meals. The little touches like cold towels after a hike, rain ponchos, and resource book were really appreciated. The boat has all the comforts you need. The Western style toilet requires water refills frequently which just became routine during the trip, and the cold shower was appreciated in the heat. We brought with us (and I would recommend bringing) water bottles, binoculars, a light top sheet for sleeping, flip flops for the boat and running shoes for the hikes, and flashlights or head lamps for the night hike. None of the hikes were difficult. The sleeping arrangements on the deck were comfortable but the fleece blankets were not required, and next time we will bring a battery operated fan to hang from the bug net at night because it was very hot & humid with not enough air flow. After the orangutan sightings our favourite was giving back to the area with tree planting which I wish we could have stayed longer and planted more trees (next time). Dessy and Arif have put a lot of thought and planning into these trips and it shows.
We look forward to next visit.

Completely amazing experience! We took this tour in May and were blown away by both the things we saw and the outstanding professionalism of the tour guide (Arif), chef and captain. They really think of everything to make the trip memorable and comfortable - it's like glamping on a house boat. Want to add that, as vegetarians, we weren't sure what our food options would be... well, they were amazing. Our chef provided the best food of our month-long trip to Indonesia, and also some of the best veggie food we've ever had! Also, kudos to Dessy who managed our booking and ensured we were taken care of from start to finish. Can't recommend enough!!

We had a great time on this private tour! Dessy, who was in charge of the tour, was very helpful and responsive. Our tour guide Jefrey was also very helpful and nice. We saw tons of orangutans, both at feeding stations and from the boat along the shore, as well as monkeys and lovely birds. Our meals on the boat were very tasty. We opted to stay at a resort (Rimba Lodge) rather than sleeping on the boat, which had cute little cabins with attached bath, as well as air conditioning. Overall very fun trip - highly recommend for seeing lots of animals - and the portions on the boat were very relaxing with great views!

My husband and I decided to venture into Borneo for our honeymoon and birthday trip and after reading the various reviews on orangutan tours, we opted to go with Oranguatan Applause for the very obvious reason, which is that they are simply the best! From the great communication and email correspondence with Desi before we arrived to the hands-on experiences and useful knowledge that our tour guide, Alan, provided to the wonderful and delicious food Master Chef cooked up for us to the safety and care we received from the captain and his crew member/co-captain, everything was beyond superb. The team even sang me happy birthday and provided me with a cake; such attention to detail! I have been on many many tours throughout SE Asia and this, by far, was the best one that I have ever been on. I was so happy that my husband got to experience this because it truly was a jungle dream come true! I could highly recommend this tour for the young and old, novices and expert travelers alike. Such a well organized trip from start to finish.

Dessy and her team were amazing. We enjoyed a fabulous 3 day - 2 night houseboat tour in Tanjung Puting National Park to see Urangutans. The boat crew were first class and the food was as good as any top restaurant we have visited. All this whilst we were travelling on the river in comfort. We can highly recommend this trip with Dessy, her company and her team. Thank you for such a memorable experience.

Dear Irit, Thank you very much for your valuable review and clear recomendation to us. I agree with you about Dessy, and even she keep us on update with flight schedule that we can not monitor cause the lack of connection in the jungle. How was your visit to Borobudur? We had high expectations for this tour based on the incredible reviews, and it truly delivered! The boat trip itself was an incredible way to see the national park, our guide was extremely knowledgable and could answer any questions we had about the wildlife, the food was delicious, and the boat was so comfortable.

Dessy is a miracle worker, the trip was so well organized and she really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. While we were in the jungle without cell service, our flight got canceled, but by the time we got back Dessy had already noticed and switched us to an even better flight for free.

Overall, amazing experience, and Orangutan Applause is the company to go with!

3D2N Orangutan Houseboat Tour in Tanjung Puting National Park provided by Orangutan Applause - Day Tours
