    Wonderful and safe.
Excellent service and protective guides. As it’s international travel we were not surprised by a few bumps in the plans. Shrike took ownership and made up for any bumps. Very impressive customer care. Guides were courteous and made it all interesting and fun for us while keeping us safe. Highly recommend Shrike

    SHRIKE SAFARIS IS FANTASTIC
SHRIKE SAFARIS IS FANTASTIC! I have been wanting for years to safari in Africa & I finally got my wish. A friend referred me to Shrike Safaris & said they were the best. He was right. Mark, the owner, responded to our messages immediately, arranged transport from the airport to the hotel, organized our flights at the Seronera airstrip, our excursions to Stone Town & the Jozani forest, and from our hotel to the airport to go back to the states. He even waited for almost 2 hours when our flight was delayed due to weather. On top of that, he upgraded our friends, who were honeymooning at the 4 seasons, to a suite with a private pool. Our Safari guide, Paul, also employed through Shrike, was exceptional. He was funny, easy to speak with, so knowledgeable about the Serengeti and its wide range of plants & animals, including their mating, hunting, behavioral & migration habits. Paul has worked for Shrike for 10 years, loves his job & navigated the Serengeti plains with incredible ease. He went out of his way to make certain we saw all the animals we wanted & that is hard work. Safari is not like a zoo where the animals are just in front of you. You often have to seek them out, know where they like to be and when they like to be there, have animal-like vision to find them. Paul knows how to do it all! He spotted a leopard from far away simply by seeing its tail from a tree, a tail that just looked like a branch. We had breakfast, lunch & dinner with Paul for 3 days and were sad to leave him. Another Shrike employee, Simon, led us through Stone Town & the Jozani forest. From all of the travel & allergies, I’d gotten a terrible cold so he stopped by a pharmacy & bought me medicine. He showed us the fish market, the churches, the local streets & shops, the slave quarters, the architecture, the Freddie Mercury museum & relayed detailed stories about the rich history of Zanzibar & Stone Town. We then visited the Jozani Forest to see the Mangroves and the colobus monkeys, which are found only in Zanzibar. My friend & I were discussing our favorite parts of our trip on our last day. It was the people. We had never met kinder people, people who are so proud of where they live & want to present you with their wealth of knowledge and make sure you had the most wonderful experiences while you’re visiting.

Great Safari with a great guide
Me and my friendi went on a 3 day Safari with Paulo, he is a great guide and his driving skills safed us a couple of times when we got stuck in the mud. As you can imagine we have seen lots of nice animals. Unfortunately we missed a couple of hours through some unexpected circumstances. Also we went for the low budget Safari and took care of our own food. It would have been nice to know in advance that there are actually restaurants inside the National park where you can get yourself local food for local prices. In the end we payed a reasonable price for a very nice experience and we would definitely recommend Shrike Safari to anyone!

    Wonderful Experience
I will have great memories from this trip of a lifetime, taking in the sights and wildlife of Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro crater. From the beginning, when i had first contacted Mark at shrike safaris, communication was always excellent and planning the itinerary was made very easy. We were picked up from our hotel in mwanza in the morning and set out to begin the trip from serengeti national park. Our guide adam was very knowledgeable and knew where to find the animals. During the course of the safari here we viewed elephants,Zebras, crocodile, gazelles, wildebeest, olive baboon, ostrich, giraffes, hippos, impala and spotted Hyena. We were also lucky to see a male lion up close and also a leopard. We stayed at the Shuhudia Adventure Tented Camp, where the staff and food were great and the accommodation itself so comfortable. Packed lunch is provide on the 3 days also. On the second day we took in the surroundings of the ngorongoro crater and viewed up close more of the wildlife and also seen warthogs, topi, golden jackel, kori bustrad and many buffalo. On the 2nd night we stayed at the delightful Ngorongoro wildlife lodge, which is right on the crater rim. Staff were very attentive and welcoming here and there was a great choice of food. On the final day we got to view lions and also payed a visit to a maasi village. We were dropped off at our hotel after a brilliant few days, so would like to thank mark and his team for making it happen. I would highly recommend shrike safaris

    The highlight of our holiday!
From the moment we were picked up at our hotel, Mark and his team were delightful. Our guide Adam was very knowledgeable and friendly and was very informative about all of the animals we encountered on our safari. He ensured that we seen as many animals as possible and we really enjoyed being in his company. The highlight of our trip was the Ngorongoro Crater which was stunning. Our accommodation was great and the staff at both places were very attentive and welcoming. Also the food was delicious and packed lunches were provided each day.I would highly recommend Shrike Safari's if you are thinking of booking a trip. They have lots of different options to suit a variety of budgets and timeframes.

    A fantastic safari!
I only had 2.5 days off after a work event in Mwanza and I saw that Shrike had a 3-day Serengeti Safari that was perfect. Guide Henry picked me up at my hotel and in 3 hours we were in the park. It was AMAZING from the start. Late afternoon light was perfect for photographing animals and the plains. My lodge room was upgraded to a chalet room at the Mbalalgeti tented lodge and that was a nice surprise. It was lovely and close to the restaurant that offers a panoramic view of the plains perfect for sunrise photos. The restaurant is gorgeous and the buffet meals nothing fancy but good and interesting. And the staff also wonderful, especially Eric at reception and Erick in the restaurant. I saw so many animals thanks to Henry’s touring. We blew 2 tires looking for lions hiding in the bush — found them! — and he replaced the tires quickly. It was truly something I’ll never forget. Now you should know that the Land Cruiser, while rugged, is quite old and no a/c, which would be nice for the drive to the park (you want and open top and windows while in the park). But I didn’t mind because Henry was so kind and knowledgeable. It was a memorable trip and I wish I had had 2 more days there and time to use the pool, which was so inviting with a great view. July is a great time to go with the wildebeests in full migration with their zebra pals.

Where do I start... Between seeing the prides of lions basking in the sun and ending the day with a new camp to ourselves, it was fantastic. Mark who we dealt with from Shrike Safari helped my partner endlessly to plan and organise our accommodation as well as liaising with us via flight times and hotel pick up. Haruma - our tour guide - was a pleasure to be around. He was so positive and SO knowledgeable, myself and my partner were regularly blown away by his ability to spot animals and to understand their behaviour. I would 100% recommend him. I was particularly worried about where we would be sleeping, but I needn't have. We stayed in a fairly new camp set up in the Serengeti, we were the only visitors (as it was the week before christmas) and were treated like royalty. The beds were SO comfortable and I couldn't have asked for nicer attendants. Our only negative (and it is tiny) is that we would have liked to have had an hour before dinner to ourselves, to sit in our tent porch and have a cup of tea or wine. That was the only thing we would change. I don't need to go into details about the safari as it's obviously AMAZING! But the N'Gorongoro Crater was just breathtaking on the last day - and the perfect way to end the trip. The Rhino Lodge is a must - it was busy and the food was impeccable, inside the rooms were little log burners that were a perfect background setting to a glass of wine on the balcony over looking the crater. All in all Shrike gave us the perfect experience, I would 100% recommend using this company and especially going to the Serengeti in December. At times we were the only car for miles!

Our driver (Herman) was extremely informed. He gave a lot of information about the animals and birds. He was great in spotting animals from a distance and approached them professionally and carefully. Our loges were clean and comfortable. Ngorongoro was very cold and we were not prepared for that kind of a weather. But the hotel/lodge were very attentive and made sure we were comfortable. I loved the fact that I woke up to birds singing outside my window and animals walking around

My mother and I were celebrating my 30th and 60th birthdays. We flew from NYC to go in a safari with Shrike. I wrote them many emails stating this is a big trip for us. I asked about decorations, a cake etc. THEY CANCELLED ON US 8 HOURS BEFORE THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO PICK US UP. We flew all the way from NYC to Arusha. Spent 2 days in arusha and then found out our safari for the next 3 days was cancelled. The "owner" mark kept losing signal on his phone when he was explaining this to us (after I very aggressively said I needed to speak with someone) and said its because the other 2 people on the safari cancelled. So he said he can refund me my money or my mom and I pay an extra $1050 each for a private safari. I immediately called my bank and told them about this. Also, please notice the inconsistent reviews for this company. With some research i found out they haven't paid taxes or been a credited tour company since like 2016 or something. THEY WERE REPORTED TO TATO (the tanzania tourism board) ABOUT THE UNPROFESSIONALISM THEY GAVE MY MOTHER AND I. We literally found out through a WhatsApp text our tour was going to be cancelled 8 hours before they were suppose to pick us up.

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT SCHEDULE AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE IN AFRICA WITH THIS BULLSH*T COMPANY.

Deanna— A 1-star experience is NOT what we expect from our guests; we are extremely apologetic for this very unfavorable situation. You expected to join one of our small group safaris which were scheduled for 4 participants i.e you—Deanna, your mother, Olger and Alex. However, Olger and Alex got a last—minute notification that their International flights were canceled due to Covid 19 related issues and, there was no way for them to travel to Tanzania to catch up with AN UNFORGETTABLE SAFARI EXPERIENCE. At that point our reservation department had only 2 options; First, to ask you for the additional cost to make your safari a private one (you and your mother guided by a private safari guide). Second, if you could not afford it, we're subject to offer you a 100% refund. Unfortunately, you decided to go with a 100% refund option... We’re normally known for our exceptional attention to detail, and we regret that we missed the mark... this mistake has been hard (and expensive) lessons to learn. We’re using your feedback to GUARANTEE departure to every safari and/ or Kilimanjaro trek we offer and NEVER cancel a departure again even if there is only 1 participant... I do believe that we have the opportunity to deliver a 5—STAR experience next time. And, we are delighted to offer you 10% OFF for your future safari or Kilimanjaro trek with us... you can pass your offer on to your friends or relatives. Just to make it clear, Shrike Safaris is the trade name for Shrike Co. LTD, registered in Tanzania: 107972 and TALA license # 004306 hence all the official documents are valid and recorded as Shrike Co. LTD. We are honest with our country. Shrike tailor made our three night/four day safari in the Serengeti and ngorongoro crater. Mark was very accommodating with our requests. We started our trip in arusha, made our way for two nights in a tented camp in the Serengeti. The camp, shuhudia camp, was lovely, very friendly staff, and very comfortable accommodation, with full private flushing toilets and shower. The food was delicious, cooked eggs in the morning, fruit, coffee, etc. Packed lunch provided for each day, lovely food. Dinner was three courses, and very nicely cooked. This is a non fenced camp, so no wandering around alone! Lots of wildlife comes in and around the camp. Our driver, Dixon, worked hard to locate all the animals we wanted to see, with the result that after one day, we had seen almost everything we wanted! Lions, cheetahs, elephants, leopards, buffalo, giraffe, antelope, wildebeest, hyena, zebra.... Dixon was very sensible about the distance he kept from the animals, which couldn't be said about some other drivers! We saw another jeep getting chased by a buffalo, not a good situation. Also, the jeep was in good condition, pop up roof, and very importantly with the four wheel drive working. Saw several jeeps which had broken 4x4, they all get stuck, it's very wet and muddy. Dixon was also well able to drive in the conditions. Radio also working, which is needed to find the animals. Dixon had binoculars, but worth bringing your own.Third day, went to ngorongoro, another day driving in the crater, flamingos, rhino, loads to see. Stayed in rhino lodge. Nice accommodation, good food. Then day four, drive back, dropped to airport. A few things we noted.....ngorongoro was great for spotting animals, it's a much smaller area, with a full spread of animals. However, we liked the Serengeti much more, the crater feels a bit like a wildlife park, where the Serengeti had a feeling like you are definitely in the wild. Recommend you buy a sim card when you land. 10 gig sim cost us 15 euro, very handy in the tent and in the jeep. Be aware, you are away from the camp all day, no toilets. Not a big problem for men, but maybe not as comfortable for women, so might be worth considering as you drink the provided water! If you can, bring lots of single dollar notes. It's a big tipping culture, so a dollar for porters etc. The local currency is a bit cumbersome for tipping. Be aware, the max you can withdraw from the atm is about 200 dollars, so factor this into your plans, if you plan on paying cash for safari. They brought us to the bank before we left, which sorted that problem for us. Credit card not too popular in Africa yet. No atm in the wildlife parks, so bring what you need with you to tip at the camps etc. Overall, no hesitation recommending shrike, they were very fair in their dealings with us. Trip of a lifetime.

The entire safari was great - the time in the Seregeti, in Olduvai Gorge, and Ngorongoro Crater. It really is a good plan to start at the Mwanza side of the Serengeti and end in Arusha. Emilie our driver/guide was delightful - friendly, knowledgable, a superb driver, and knew all the best places to view wildlife. We saw everything we wanted to see (except the elusive leopards) - 4 of the big 5 and so much more. There was plenty of time to watch the wildlife and take photos and videos. The accomodations at the Safari Camp were really nice- with beautiful views from the chalet. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and are so glad we decided to do this safari with Shrike.

We made it a 5-day/4 night safari, with Shrike flexibly adding an extra day to see Mayara National Park. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them, as they met us at the airport in Mwanza. We had the luxury of a Land Cruiser to ourselves. Our driver, Paul, was always friendly and was a relaxed and careful driver - we always felt safe and never rushed. He had a good knowledge of the animals and was also good identifying the birds. The best part of the safari was the second day in the western corridor, where we never went more than a few minutes without seeing animals or birds. Paul seemed to know all the byways and we had a wonderful 40 minutes watching from close quarters a mother cheetah and her cub devour a young impala that they had just caught. The central and eastern ends of the Serengeti were drier and the animals more sparse. It included a large distance on dusty and corrugated roads. Ngorongoro was great, although rather crowded with safari vehicles (compared to the very quiet western corridor). Our night at the Ngorongoro Wildlife Hotel was the best of the four nights on the trip. Manyara was well worth the visit for the birds, but being the dry season the flamingos were no more than a pink smudge out on the lake.
We covered a large distance each day, but the Land Cruiser was comfortable and we didn't suffer. Overall it was a great experience. Mark at the Shrike office was always helpful and patient as our plans for the safari evolved.

Had an amazing experience with Emilie, our driver-guide. He did his best to show us the big five althought there was no time left in our schedule. He knew a lot about the animals and made sure we had a great en safe time.

We went on the three day safari with Shrike Safari in November 2018 - it was three of us and our guide Paul. Everything was great from start to finish. Mark was really helpful and flexible when we were organising what we wanted to do and was happy to make alternative suggestions to meet our needs. The safari itself was just fantastic. Paul was obviously very experienced and knew where to go to get the best chance of seeing different animals and was also really knowledgeable. We saw so many different animals - I think the only one we didn’t see was the rhino. Perhaps the most amazing things were watching a cheetah stalk a herd of gazelles and then go in for the chase - he didn’t get one on this occasion - and a lion and lioness wandering alongside our Jeep. We literally could have put our hands out the window and stroked them - although we chose not to!

All in all we had the best time and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone else. We borrowed a decent camera with zoom from a friend and I’m really glad we did - we have over 1000 photos some of which are quite incredible - a fantastic memory of our trip.

Thanks to everyone at Shrike Safari
