When I tell you, hands down, this was the best pottery- making experience of my life, I cannot understate it. We met many of the members of the family that owns the pottery factory, and they treated us like they were our own. Matteo gave us instructions to navigate transportation, welcomed us warmly, and provided such a rich history of pottery and Italy. It was more than just a bowl-making experience! We even purchased a few select pieces of pottery and we just adore them, knowing they were handcrafted with love! I had a wonderful experience with my family and I am telling you, they pulled out all the stops to contribute to us having a great time in Italy. My whole family thinks about returning to Montelupo specifically because of the connections we made there. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants an authentic piece of Italy t bring home with them and wants the small town culture and history to add to their trip.

We just received a box of wonderfullness from La Galleria in Montelupo! We had so much fun on our trip when we were there, and it was so worth the wait for it to arrive in the USA!
If you are anywhere in the Florence area, have a half day available, and want to have a GREAT time you will remember forever, book this trip. Right Now.
This is a half day trip that is different. If you are in Florence, jump on a train. 20 minutes later, you are in Montelupo. It is close to Florence, but it is a completely different and wonderful place. Truly, it is Italia. From the train station, it is an easy 10 minute walk to La Galleria. You will be met there by Matteo and his wonderful family!
Their hospitality is quintessentially Italian. You ARE family! Matteo brought us to the “factory” which is a wonderland of ceramics and artistry that you cannot even imagine! The showroom, also at the factory, will absolutely take your breath away!
On the “production floor”, you will meet and spend time with amazing artists that do what they love every day. We got to make handles for some incredible pottery and it is fun to think about where those handles ended up. I have no idea. They have such a love for what they do to show you, and share with you, and have you participate in… you can’t help but admire and enjoy their expertise.
Back at “The Shop”, Matteo shared his family’s multiple generation passion and experience with ceramics. Which is the theme of the entire town!
Matteo’s father, Salvatore, came and literally held our hands as we created our very own pieces on the wheel. They just arrived here in the U.S. today and they are wonderful, along with a couple of pieces we ordered while we were there. All were shipped (included) to us from Montelupo.
After this wonderful experience, Matteo called and made a reservation for us at his favorite restaurant, for his favorite dish, and all to make sure we made our train back to Florence. Which we did easily. And the ‘lunch’ was SUPERLATIVE! If Matteo says he will call his friend and make a reservation for you, GO WITH IT! And have the wine he suggests! He knows what he is doing! Just enjoy it.
If you want a truly authentic, quintessentially Italiano experience, you will fondly remember forever, book this now!
Pro Tip: Ask Matteo about his handmade phone chargers! We have three now and they are awesome!
Ciao!

My aunt and I had such a great time visiting with Matteo and his family at their ceramic business and showroom in Montelupo. Salvatore showed us how to make our own ceramic bowl, plus we bought some fantastic pieces from their collection. We have a wonderful day. Thank you, Matteo and family! We highly recommend this experience if you love pottery and a day out of Florence. (We took the train from Florence, it is only 20 minutes away.)

We have always enjoyed our trips to the lovely town of Montelupo and especially our visits to La Galleria where we have purchased beautiful ceramic pieces that we proudly display in our kitchen. So, when we returned to Montelupo last month, we were especially looking forward to this activity with Matteo and his parents. Matteo's tour of the factory was so enjoyable and informative. Seeing how our pieces had been created made us appreciate them even more. And the showroom - it was like a true ceramic museum. So many beautiful things all in one place. We congratulate Matteo's father on his patience showing us how to make our ceramic bowls. Surely, we were not among his star pupils! We can't wait to get our bowls in the mail along with the pitcher we ordered to coordinate with the ceramics we already have in their lovely poppy pattern. We wish Matteo and his Mom and Dad all the very best in the New Year. We cannot wait to make a return visit the next time we are in Italy.

My husband and I visited Italy in September 2019-We stayed in Florence and it was only a 20 minute train ride over to Montelupo. Matteo greeted us at the train station and took us over to his family’s shop. We were given a mini tour of their shop and shown pieces we could buy as well to have shipped back with our handmade pottery. We ordered a serving tray to be mailed to us in the US. Matteo’s dad is the master potter and was patient with us while we made our pieces. They arrived a few weeks later and it’s a great reminder of our trip.
Matteo also keeps in touch to see how we’re doing and it’s like making a new friend that’s 5k miles away.
I would totally go back if in the area.
And the town is super cute

Grazie mille!!! È perfetto! The experience is perfect. We had been waiting for so long to come visit the shop and we are so happy to go!! Mateo makes us feel like family, and his parents are so wonderful. The tour of the factory was incredible, and there were so many interesting things to see! All of the potters and painters are so talented!
The pottery class was fun and I learned a lot, since it was my first time throwing a pot :)
We would definitely do this again, even just to visit the shop and the wonderful family of 4 people who run it. Grazie!!

This was by FAR our best experience in Italy. Matteo was an incredible tour guide of the factory, and the factory was so lovely—the handcrafted expertise they put into each piece blew us away! We look forward to receiving our pottery pieces in the mail as keepsakes of a wonderful memory :)

As the other reviews attest, this was a fantastic, memorable experience. Matteo is very knowledgeable, charming, and accommodating. He welcomed us warmly and showed us a wonderful time, both at the factory and the shop. His parents are also delightful and Salvatore incredibly talented. My daughter, my sister and I all enjoyed this immensely and will be recommending this to everyone we know coming to Italy.
Mateo, thank you for your hospitality.
