Itinerary
- Grey Glacier, Torres de Paine, Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, Chile
- 1The tour begins with the departure from the Grey Area of the park, to travel towards the end of the Southern Ice Field, where the Grey Glacier is. Located inside Torres del Paine National Park, the glacier has an ice wall measuring about 40 meters high and a combination of blueish tones, creating a stunning natural view. To get to the boat, there is a previous 3 km walk by the Grey beach from the closest parking lot. We will visit the glacier through the Grey II boat, which will take us to numerous floating icebergs and its various formations, ideal to watch or photograph. After sailing for about 45 minutes, we will go to front of the glacier, which is divided by a central island, where we land. This way, you can enjoy the full extent of the countless cracks and uprisings constituting the snowdrift. Sometimes large ice landslides occur, avoiding the navigation of the Grey II, but it also gives opportunity to perform the navigation by zodiacs.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Kadabafamily0 contributionsChallenging trek.We took a bus to the park entry of Torres del Paine. There is a hotel in the park, with a camping ground, and horse riding options. From this point it is a 23 kms trek up hill. There is inadequate safety along an extremely windy stretch to reach a midpoint about 9 kms away. We did not go up after this point, but returned back. Only for the very fit and agile.Written February 28, 2023
- altheachan0 contributionsHard for junior-level hiker but it's worthy to finish! As a junior hiker, I thought it was quite hard to hike around 11 km to 20 km each day within the scheduled time. However, under the good weather condition, I was able to finish the whole itinerary, and I thought it was worthy to do so without any regret! The scenery along the route is very unique and awesome, it is worthwhile to try hard to finish it! The weather can be very different even in one day: sunshine in the morning, wind and cloud in the afternoon and rain at night, so it is very important to wear in layers. Also, a pair of waterproof and comfortable hiking shoes or boots is a must for this hiking tour.Written February 9, 2020

The glacier is amazing and Hotel Lago grey is worth seeing as the starting point. The amount of time for the tour is also perfect and the staff are very jolly and helpful. I would recommend this trip to anyone visiting Torres Del Paine and the area. Our trip was delayed by and hour due to a late start by the group before us which was a bit annoying. The other thing to note is that you do need to walk to the boat, perhaps a kilometer; and it across a rocky, soft beach like area with howling winds. There were older people that were unable to manage this walk in the conditions and were unable to reach the boat. Someone with limited abilities would have difficulty and I did not see accommodation for it. The path also was not well marked. You are just set checked in and then sent off in your own to get to the boat with little direction. A worthwhile trip, just some things to be aware of before booking.

This was the best glacier experience we found in Patagonia (we did a total of 3 cruises). The boat was comfortable and they spent a great deal of time close to the glacier... in three different faces. The staff was very friendly. I chunk of the glacier was pulled up onto the boat and drinks were served iced by chunks of the glacier...so fun!
Getting to and from the boat can be a challenge due to the high winds and longish walk from the parking lot. From what I heard, the drought in Chile has affected the place where the boat can dock, making the long walk necessary. Hopefully they will get more rain, refill the lake and shorten the walk.

Beautiful boat trip with incredible views. We got very close up to the glacier and lots of opportunities for photos. Fun and friendly staff giving useful information about the glacier and the region. We had a perfect clear day, I will remember it forever. Definitely recommend

Creo que lo mejor es reservar por Internet. Yo tuve la suerte de llegar al catamarán y había cupo para dos y pagamos arriba. Me parece que hay 3 horarios, nosotros salimos en el de las 13 h.
