About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- fosterw1420 contributionsI wouldn't go back if it was free.Nothing like the advertisement. We are working at getting our money back. There are so many better small places along the water that are cheaper than $180 USD for two people, even with the "All inclusive". It is not all inclusive as they do not have kayaks and the servers were very rude. I recommend Progreso and the beach, but not Scappatta.Written April 28, 2024
- 814richardy0 contributionsCustomer Compliant to ViatorProgreso Misenbalam Ghost Town Tour, Beatle Buggies Cnf# 1492810263 I want to strongly recommend that Viator no longer use Shore Excursion out of Progresso, Mexico. The above tour attached was canceled twice this week. The first cancelation came to us the morning of the tour, just prior to us leaving for it. I booked a second time (the one for Feb 16) I sent two contact emails on the meeting location and neither time did I get an answer. So this morning we went to the Shore Excursion office and it was closed. We called the number on the window for meeting place and the tour operator said the trip was canceled. We traveled 25 miles to take this trip In talking to the tour information of Progresso, we were told that Shore Excursions Cancels a lot, and not in time for people to make other plans. Rating for viator.com is 4.2 Shore Excursion is not a reputable company and I don't know how Viator can have a 4.2 star rating because they should have 0. Shore Excursions, Progresso, is a BLACK mark on Viator. I have used Viator all over the world and you have been fantastic. Thank you, KATHLEEN YECKLEYWritten February 17, 2024
- analisaharvey0 contributionsPrivate tour and amazing customer serviceFantastic adventure with our tour guide Tony (Antonio). He was very knowledgeable of all the attractions he took us to. There was a bit of a language barrier but it helped that spoke some Spanish and understood everything he said. He did try to help my husband who only speaks English but I told him it's okay and that I could translate. We had a great time and he kindly waited for us while we explored and took pictures. He took us on a private tour in a car with air conditioning and took us directly to a wild life conservation area where we saw wild flamingos and other birds and fish and crabs. We asked questions, took some pictures and went on to the next site. Pink salt lakes. He went to the men working and asked for a piece of the salt to give us. That was special and souvenirs we'll hold on to forever. We then went to Xcambo mayan ruins. Tony showed us the whole site and walked around with us and answered all of questions. He then let us explore to climb the ruins and take pictures. My husband really loved the church. After that he took us back to the city to a beach club where we had a lovely lunch and a pretty view of the beach. He left us for about an hour and a half and then came back to pick us up and take us back to our bus to ride back to the port and make it to our cruise ship on time. Highly recommend using Criss and Sands excursion services. They kept in contact with me in making sure we made it to our meeting points on time. Very helpful, friendly, professional and courteous. They made our anniversary unforgettable. Thank you so much Tony. You are amazing. Mucha Gracias.Written October 2, 2023
- PaigeR1940 contributionsBest beach club!Gabriel was the best server! Accommodations were amazing. Amazing pool. Food was delicious! We had two smaller children with us and they loved the pool.Written July 27, 2023
- Mike G0 contributionsWaste of time and money..Don't waste your money. Their is no beach beyond the loungers ,they were stacking sandbags while we were there to the point that you had to climb over them to get to the water. They bring you a drink in an 8 oz plastic tumbler . The food was not appetizing at all and they allowed constant vendors pestering you while you are trying to enjoy your day.Written April 13, 2023
- Castiza110 contributionsZero organizationTour was 2 hours late as we waited for the rest of the tour party at the pier with the guide. The van took us to Progresso where just my travel friend and I departed the van and got into a car. The rest of the tour we waited 2 hours for did not even go with us on our tour! Our tour guide was very nice, polite and bent over backwards for us but alas…he barely spoke English so we did not get a background of the Mayan ruins. The ruins were fascinating but wish we had a guide that could answer our questions and provide information. Onto the cenote which I was looking forward to….when we got there, no one else was swimming but me and I do not swim alone so our guide helped me down the broken down, very dangerous steps into the Cenote and watched me swim. (No lifeguard, no life vests as other denotes). He was wonderful. The tour provided no snacks or food where others on this same tour did get something to eat. Likewise, we were shocked at the time after the swim, as the tour was supposed to be back at the ship at 2:00 and it was 3:00 and we were over an hour away which our tour guide was apparently never told of the time we needed to get back to the ship. The ship was to leave around 4 and all passengers were to be onboard by 3:00. We went into panic mode. Our guide called his boss ‘Pepe’ who seemed to be a real jerk. Since our guide did not have the proper papers to cross the bridge, Pepe told him to take us to the bus station to catch a bus back to the ship. The bus driver was off duty and no more buses were driving to the port that day. Time is ticking away and we have no means of quickly getting a ride to the boat. Pepe is qualified to cross the bridge but was very upset that he was forced to drive us. He took his time and arrived 20 minutes later. We got in his van and he drove about 30 mph the entire way to ship on 4 lane road with every car passing us. Our guide called him and asked if we were going to make it….he was that worried. Even tho’ Pepe was aware of the urgency, he just meandered along. We got there after 4:00 and the ship left late at 4:30. I would not recommend any tour that Pepe has anything to do with……after English lessons, our guide would be excellent. I don’t want to give his name …I don’t want him to get into trouble but you can throw Pepe into the cenote!Written March 19, 2023
- Welltravelfam230 contributionsAwfulI would not Recommend this place. At the cruise port we were charged $46.00 each. My 12 year old was charged full price at the port because the lady said he was tall so he was an adult. We were told it would be a great beach, authentic food, and unlimited drinks. The beach was ok for Progresso, the food had a side of flies and consisted of some chicken with onions and cabbage, stale nacho chips, nacho cheese, black bean juice (no black beans were in it) and watermelon. The drinks were made in gallon containers. I did not drink any because the containers looked like there were better days. My family did not want to chance getting sick so we opted out of any of it. Though they had bottles of water we were told they were not for guest. The seating on this picture was not at all what we had. The entire experience was awful. I am sure you can find a better place to spend your time and money while in Progresso. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HEREWritten March 14, 2023
- jocelynd620 contributionsVisit if you have the timeWe decided to visit the site on our own, so took a taxi from Merida. The ruins are very old dating from 600BC. They are small and well worth having a guide as he can explain everything to you about the buildings. The open chapel which was built of stones from the original buildings is interesting, it self a ruin, was being worked on by the conservators. The cenote is polluted therefore it is not possible to swim in it any more The echoes in the main square really do,sound like the quetzals. The most important building is the building of the 7 dolls.the window at the top was strategically placed for the solstices and the moon. The ruins were not very busy. We took about 2 hoursWritten February 8, 2023
- KMRRR0 contributionsAwesome Day!!We had a deal with a trip to XCambio ruins along with the beach club. It was awesome!!! Shout out to our absolutely fantastic tour guide Mario Lopez and driver Antonio!!! Mario was extremely personable and knowledgeable about the history. He also came around to everyone in the group at the club to ask if we were having a good time or needed anything. Would definitely recommend!!!!!Written January 14, 2023
- nickmZ6605EI0 contributionsSpent 20 minutes there and leftNothing like advertised at all! The place is a trash pit. Not big, pool is cloudy dirty, trash just outside of the rope barricade. There was a lady next to the ropes beating the sh*t out of her dog. Continued hitting it in the head for barking:( Drinks were no good, glasses were filthy. Looking for refund!!!!!!Written January 6, 2023
- TAHouston0 contributionsTerrible, reservation was not honored by the providerDo not buy this. I purchased this and transportation was supposed to be included but never been contacted from the travel agency or tripadvisor on where or when to get the transportation to this place. I ended up spending 80 dollars on taxi round trip. When I get to the Tecnohotel Beach, they won't accept this reservation!!! The hotel staff said they only accept the pass purchased through the local staff or a pass purchased directly bought from the hotel! Also, it was only 20 dollars per person instead of this outrageous price from Tripadvisor. Do not buy this, it will ruin your vacation.Written December 19, 2022
- panicpreacher0 contributionsNot impressedWas not very impressed. The cenote was closed and they didn't reduce the price of admission. The museum was also closed. We did not get a guide but the ruins were not that impressive. There are a lot better options in the area.Written December 5, 2021
- David D0 contributionsPink flamingosThey drove us all around (30 min.) to put us on and up close to the wild flamingos. We also got to see a wild gator and springs that pour from the ground. Then a short bus ride (30min) to the pink salt mines. Really cool culture. (By chicken here to take with you ) . Then a 5 min bus ride to the Mayan ruins. It was a really good tour of the history of the mayans. Then they let us walk all around the ruins. We even got to climb them.there was a few cats at the ruins that was really skinny. ( that's why I wished i would have got the chicken from the salt to feed the cats) then we drove back to the start. The beach club was small and the food is just their local good. I loved it some dont. The staff was really nice there . I got a 25 dollar 30 min. Massage. It was nice. The staff does expect a tip but they was worth it. Our tour guide did great. Jorge morano 9991449053 took really good care of us and they made sure we made the boat in plenty of time. Was only at beach about hour and a half before needing to leave.Written January 31, 2020
- TheAmberMose0 contributionsIt’s not all bad!!!Important stuff in 2nd paragraph. So I took a cruise in November and I ended up at Silcer Beach Club. The alcohol was like watered down and not cheap stuff that will get you drunk fast but, the type that doesn’t taste like actual liquor but, you gotta drink it to enjoy yourself. The drinks are trash. The food was ok. Not terrible but OK!! It’s all inclusive for a couple of hours. I would highly suggest not buying before you get there!!! My group paid $25 pp, the couple we met paid $60pp and the girls we met the night before paid $80pp. I knew better than to go but, my bff insisted. They have massages get the massage it was like $30 for the hour. If you choose to go...bring your on liquor!!! The staff is wonderful. They take you straight back to the ship. If you see something you want after you dock get it then. This place was safe and I honestly...loved their hustle.Written December 30, 2019
- jahlum0 contributionsNo wayWhat they did right- they were the first company to sell you a beach day outside the port at a decent price of $41/person. The “inflatables” consisted of one oversized water mat. The food included decent tacos and an empty empanada. 😂 If you order alcohol, I would suggest beer. The beach was small and at first there were not enough chairs. Slowly, after there were more people than chairs, the staff would bring out a few at a time. I’m no fan of dogs and locals with them at the resort was a bit over the top. The locals also selling cheap souvenirs were obnoxious. I must have said no one hundred times to the same men selling sunglasses, purses, and conch shells. Don’t forget the man selling hammocks....no thank you, no thank you, no thank you. To no fault of the club, the actual beach was disgusting. Black seaweed covered the waves which made getting in the water a no-go. I would not recommend this place nor would I go back.Written December 28, 2019

Not as great as it was made out to be. This was not a bust but definitely disappointed. Beach club kept wanting us to buy the all inclusive for every guest even after we said we were not eating and would pay as we go. Charged $28 for three cokes and two chips with salsa.

This was hands down the best excursion to get out of you confort zone! They gather you up by the ship and then you head down to town get introduced to the local guide and then it's about a 20 minute ride when you reach this rustic very realistic barn where there's some animals around and the atvs the place looks a bit run down from the years but it definitely has its appeal, there they give us gear and instructions on how to use the atvs, so we were fortunate to go on rainy days and got plenty muddy haha loved it!! Then we arrived to an abandoned church and other complex of building and were told the story of this hidden little town. What I personally liked as the fact that this place wasn't structured fancy for those who want paved roads and pure cleanliness y was down and dirty and you got to enjoy and see what people down there really live by day by day. After wards we head to the beach club. Guys some advice take a change of clothes with you please you will need it! After a little while at the beach relaxing then we head back to the boat with the rest of the groups so all in all it was unexpected but we'll worth it. 5 out 5

If I could rate this zero, I would. Slicer Beach Club is super small & kinda skanky. Pool is literally the size of a hot tub & nasty. However, Slicer is the highpoint of this tour. Female "guide" in van went on & on & on about how all Americans are rich but her ppl are destitute. (So do you hate us or do you just want some our $?) Looong drive to the middle of nowhere "farm" where we were handed off to another "guide" for the ATV ride. Female guide departs to host another tour. What? Now it is me (single, older female), my barely teenage grandson and some random dude in the sticks of the Yucatan - no other shipmates on excursion. But wait...once upon the ATVs, we proceed even further into the sticks. Flashbacks of 20/20 Mexico kidnapping stories are overtaking my brain....Dust, gravel, iguanas, scrub brush, heat, so much heat, so much dust, so desolate, so far from the ship...we finally arrive at the "ghost town" where random dude guide actually pushes over some rocks so we can scale a wall. (I'm an old lady!) He remains outside the walls, hmmmm. Graffiti, broken down bldgs, tall grass & overgrown trees...As we explore, we suddenly come upon armed random dude #2 perched in a sorta treehouse/lookout above the property. I am scared to death but smile & speak to the guy only to be met with a harsh, silent glare. We quickly re-scale the wall & return to the ATVs as our guide & the armed man exchange heated words I cannot understand. Money exchanges hands & we are abruptly escorted away from the property. Drive back took us by an awful smelling sewage plant (no lie) & a nearby lagoon where we could swim. Umm, no thank you. Can we just go back to the ship? This is way too much Mexico for us. Back to the farm that was so bad even the animals looked miserable..underweight horses, a messed up bird...seriously, it was like the Island of Misfit Toys - so, so sad. A 45-60 minute wait later the female guide finally comes back with her other "tour" who all looked as miseable as us. No water. No bathrooms. No end to this nightmare that I funded. Even my ATV loving grandson hated this excursion. We made it out alive & back to the ship on time... those are the only positives I can offer. For the love of all that is good & holy, STEER CLEAR! (Date of our tour was 5/2019)

From the dirty, gross van, to the "tour guide" who didn't explain much, we were very upset to have spent so much money on this excursion. Once we found where we needed to be, we were taken to what was presumed to be a parking lot filled with other dirty vans and buses. We got in the nastiness and were horrified on what was to happen next based on our surroundings. We were relieved to have 3 more couples join us on this experience. We were taken through what I can only assume was their town. A town of filth, boarded up concrete buildings with graffiti, and poverty that was very clear. There were not many vehicles or people around which added to our anxiety of where we were being taken. We saw men driving trucks with rifles in clear sight. We arrive at the "home" of one of the tour guides, inside a locked fence. At least we saw the ATV's because if not, we would have not gone inside. One step inside the gated complex I look to my right to see the carkus of some animal's head laying on the ground. I alerted my Husband while trying to shield my children. There were many animals in this "complex." Horses, malnutrished dogs, puppies, pigs, peasants, and goats. We take this ATV excursion through nothing but dirt roads and brush. Nothing to see for 40 of the approximately 45 minute ride to the "Ghost Town." We arrive to the "Ghost Town" to see 3 buildings. We were told the "keeper" was not working that day, so all we saw were the outside of these buidling full of grafitti. Clearly run down. Was it a true ghost town? Doubtful. Fast forward to the beach club. Wow. We think someone took whatever money they had and claimed a part of the beach. The tour guide had previously mentioned, several times, that we had not purchased the $25 all you can eat and drink package, but we certainly could buy one if we wanted to. We were so filled with dust and dirt from the ATV's all we wanted to do was get back to the ship and shower! The "tour guide" took us back to the ship, but not without drilling into us that it'd be $10 per person for the ride back. Once at the ship, we get out, and again he stated we would like $10 per person, but I will leave that up to you. I have him $28. Odd amount, but I had only 8 singles and had planned on that as a tip at first.
This excursion cost is $468 and we were very, very mislead and disatisfied. Progreso is dirty, run down, and not at all what pictures show it to be. PLease consider yourselves warned.

Hello it seems that you didnt like this excursion. First of all Progreso is not and ugly place as you describe it, there is no people with rifles, and our tour guides dont go with our guests back to the ship with them in the transportation, and never ever ask for money to our guest. This tour is based on off roads sigthseen and exploration of and old abandoned town called misnebalam. This info is available on the tour description . There is no refunds for this excursion. Kind regards

How much MORE is the Optional All Inclusive Beach Pass, on top of the ATV package??
Written May 13, 2019
It says Tour duration is 3 hours. Is that the total time including the 1 ATV trip to the "ghost town", OR is it 3 hours for Ship - ATV to Ghost town - Silcer Beach, and THEN you get unlimited (?) time at beach club until ship leaves? Our port time is 10AM - 6PM.
