About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Kirstine Gøtze K0 contributionsA fun, authentic cooking experience in IndiaWe attended an Indian cooking class at the Sita Cultural Centre in Pondicherry, and it was a fantastic experience. Our group of four had a private session where we began by planning the menu: chicken biryani, dal fry, and carrot halwa. Our wonderful guide, Manisha, then took us to the local market, where she introduced us to the vendors, selected the vegetables, and explained the various lentils and spices as we gathered our ingredients. After returning to the cultural centre by auto (tuk tuk), we began preparing the vegetables and cooking. It wasn't a formal training session, but rather an incredible, hands-on introduction to Indian cuisine and flavors. Manisha walked us through the spices and showed us how to recreate the dishes at home. The three hours flew by, and the meal was absolutely delicious. We highly recommend this class for anyone looking for a fun, authentic cooking experience in India!Written September 28, 2024
- Voyage224412603820 contributionsDelicious fish curryWe had a great morning with Manisha on the Indian Cookery course. Trip to the market to start with and then cooking and eating. I recommend doing the fish curry. It was delicious. Interesting, right pace, lovely food and Manisha was a great host.Written August 17, 2024
- Kirstine Gøtze K0 contributionsSee the city in a nice wayNice easy bike ride through the quarters of Pondicherry. The guide was enthusiastic and friendly. We learned a lot, and enjoyed the quite time of the dayWritten July 14, 2024
- 458GregM0 contributionsBeen on so many bike tours on our travels over the years and this was such a disappointment. It was not engaging or interesting. It was less than an hour and a half in terrible bicycles with little brakes or any adjustments to suit your height. It is memorable to me for cycling past people using the streets to go to toilet or lumps of feaces aswell cycled by.Written May 19, 2024
- rdevakumar0 contributionsCycle Tour PondyThe tour was an eye opener. Tour guide Manisha has an in-depth knowledge about Pondy. Wonderfully done. Even for regular visitors (like weekenders) I would suggest this tourWritten April 7, 2024

- SharonC4030 contributionsTerrific Cooking Class in PondicherryWe had an absolutely delightful experience here. We attended a Creole Cooking class with Manisha - who was warm and friendly and a skilled, experienced cook! First we prepared the food, then we cooked the food, then Manisha served us the food on traditional banana leaf ‘plates’. Everything was fresh & delicious. Manisha was very respectful of our western palates and didn’t push us into anything too hot or spicy for our taste. Thoroughly enjoyed this experience and absolutely recommend it without hesitation!Written February 29, 2024
- hanae960 contributionsPLEASE REPLYI hate to do this but I need to contact you and it seems this is the only way to get your attention. I booked the morning bike tour for Feb 3 and nobody was there. I'm asking for refund via email but no respose. Please check your inbox!Written February 18, 2024
- Paul M0 contributionsGreat Cooking class with Maneesha.Wonderful morning and afternoon spent going around the market with the wonderful abd knowledgable Maneesha. I’ve been cooking Indian food for many years and know that Indian home cooked food beats restaurant food hands down and Maneeshas food that we cooked was delicious and very healthy. Highly recommended.Written February 5, 2024
- A4813KPandym0 contributionsDon't miss it!Excellent! Great value and great hostess!! A trip to the market to buy the ingredients and then a leisurely lunch preparation. A great first lesson in how to prepare and use so many spices and flavours.Written February 1, 2024

- sophiecS4048MP0 contributionsA highlight of our Pondicherry tripCouldn't recommend the cooking class more highly. Manisha was extremely informative and a joy to work with. The class is well suited for a wide range of cooking experience/confidence. The menu is very customisable and can be vegetarian. Also brought us to the fish, produce, and spice market that we would have been sorry to miss otherwise.Written January 24, 2024
- NMDA0 contributionsIf it’s the only thing you do!!!Outstanding! The multitalented Manisha was brilliant she clearly loves her role. Her enthusiasm for teaching was exceptional. She took us first to the local market to buy vegetables which is an experience itself! We cooked the meal under her guidance and so far the best simple meal in India. I’d come back any day. Give her 6 out of 5 stars.Written October 31, 2023
- jay171610 contributionsUnprofessional and shabby kitchenIt's like a household unit. Not a professional teaching centre. No proper equipment. Old worn out ovens and gas stove. Everything looks like a stopgap arrangement. No chef's knife. No proper planning or methodology of teaching established. The poor kind lady was struggling herself to find the things. She was trying her best to teach us how to make eclairs and tarts but kind of like lac of training for the job. But she was very kind and polite.Written September 22, 2023

Lovely experience great teacher Heema thaught us the traditional ways of kolam or mandala drawings. We had a really good time and it was fun to learn. She also explained some of the history, gave us lots of practice and informed us how we could do this in Europe with similar powder.

This was a real treat. Saranya was a patient and charming hostess and teacher. She gave us a delightful glimpse into daily family life and the spiritual place of Kolam in Tamil Nadu life. We were also kindly allowed to transfer our rained-off bicycle tour. Generous. Thank you. Highly recommended.

I unexpectedly found myself with an extra day in Pondicherry and decided to sign up with Sita for a full day of South Indian art and cultural classes including kolam drawing, saree draping, flower garland tying, and henna painting (mahendra). First, I want to mention that SITA did a great job arranging this all for me on very short notice and provided a lovely, covered, roof-top deck space for the classes as well as a tasty fresh fruit salad for lunch.
My very pleasant and knowledgeable teacher Hema led me smoothly through all the disciplines explaining the history and techniques of each with plenty of demonstration and time to practice. She spent the whole day with me, working several hours longer than we had agreed. My head was bursting when I finished, and I have only mastered the very basics of these ephemeral ancient arts, but I am very grateful to have had this wonderful opportunity to learn. I would definitely come again for more classes if I ever find myself in Pondicherry again.
Thank you, Hema! Highly recommend!
These classes would be good for older people who need to be out of the heat or children.

I had attended this workshop in December, 2019. It was conducted very well. The science behind Kolam and the procedure followed traditionally were very explained by the instructor.

We discovered Sita through internet. Many interesting workshops were mentioned and we enrolled for several of them before our arrival in Pondicherry.
Me and my 10-year old daughter participated in the kolam workshop. A brief introduction learned us how kolam was used in the old days and how it is integrated in modern life. Then we were able to try it ourselves, it wasn’t easy but the teacher was patient and let us try as many times as needed. The result was worthwhile!
We got a good insight in the amazing Indian cultural life.

We took two classes at SITA, Kolam with Anita and Lakshmi's tiffin cooking class. Both were amazing. Instructors were fantastic: knowledgeable, personable, and fantastic English skills. They broke down their subjects so that rookies like us not only knew what to do, but the history of their art and why it is still relevant today. Our time at SITA was the highlight of the trip for my whole family. Highly recommend!
