Meet your guide at Plaza Foch in the La Mariscal area of Quito in time for a 6.45am departure. Set out on the around 2-hour journey, winding into the Andes and passing along the dramatic ‘Avenida de los Volcanes’ (Route of the Volcanoes). Along the way, stop for breakfast at a local restaurant and enjoy views of the Limpiopungo lagoon.
On arrival in the Cotopaxi National Park, jump out to begin your hike, climbing up to a refuge at 15,780 feet (4,810 meters) on the Cotopaxi Volcano snowline. It’s a challenging hike, but you’ll be rewarded with incredible views over the mountains and glaciers below. Depending on weather conditions, perhaps continue hiking up to 16,400 feet (5,000 meters) before getting ready for the second part of your adventure.
After being paired with a suitable mountain bike and listening to the safety briefing, set off on an exhilarating downhill bike ride, zipping down the mountainside on one of two trails – suitable for either less-experienced or advanced mountain bikers.
Back at the starting point, your driver will be waiting to take you to a local restaurant, where you can re-fuel with a hearty lunch before driving back to the city.
Your tour ends back in Plaza Foch around 4.30pm.
