A must go experience in Mt Cook
Definitely worth it. The whole trip lasts about three hours. Went through three blue ice holes, lucky enough to be the first public group to one of the newly found blue hole by our professional lovely guides.

      Avoid this unprofessional company
AVOID THIS UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY. This is a nightmare company to work with. We booked a quick 20 minute ride for 11:30, only to be emailed, not called, to say that our ride had been bumped to 12pm and we needed to call them to confirm our spot. We called and left a message since nobody decided to pick up. We arrived at 11:15 and were told that we probably won't fly at 12 either but could PAY MORE and get on the 1pm flight. We were given a guarantee it would fly. So, we decided to wait around until check in for that flight after paying the required amount to 'upgrade'. We went to check in at 12:45 only to be told they cancelled it and we could wait another hour if we wanted to. We asked to speak with their manager and she decided to cancel the flight then go on break to smoke in the parking lot. After she finally decided to come back, she told us that she can't process a refund for us and to contact a completely different company. When I asked the manager if there was a NZ business complaint agency, she refused to tell me and kept avoiding giving any information. I had to find out through a Google search. We've stayed in NZ for 10 days and haven't run into such a dishonest, unprofessional company and staff as this one. Save your time and money for a better, reputable and professional company. -10/10, would never recommend.

Beware of bait and switch and dishonest business practices.
We (family of 4) booked the 55 min tour through a local tour operator in Queenstown and after driving 3 hours to Mt Cook, were told due to weather that only a 40 min option would be available. Before agreeing to the downgrade, we were promised a pro-rated refund on site (Suhas) due to the shorter fight time and missed sights, and to follow up with the local tour operator directly upon return. However, upon returning to Queenstown, the refund we received was unusually small. We asked for an explanation from the tour operator and they said that only a small amount was authorized by The Helicopter Line and that we had to follow up with them directly. Since we could not determine why we received hundreds of dollars less than expected, we asked The Helicopter Line directly for additional details about how our refund was calculated. The Helicopter Line ignored my request for more details (I provided all of the prices from their website to base my prorated refund calculation on) before Hazel finally responded (after yet another email prompting) with simply “this is all we are refunding”. No further explanation, no math, nothing. I asked one more time for details and was ignored. I’ve never written a negative review on TripAdvisor before but in this case, I have the email receipts. Actual trip was fine but hard to enjoy when you are ripped off, especially when you purchased their most expensive trip package. Half a world away I have no further recourse other than to leave a review and warn others. We trusted them to do right by us and they took advantage of us. Highly recommend you book with another provider.

      Amazing 55 minute helicopter tour!
What a fabulous experience! Flying high over Mount Cook and Mount Tasman and then popping over the other side to see the Fox and Frank Josef glacier with distant views of the sea on the west wide of New Zealand. We landed on the Tasman glacier for about ten minutes which was a fabulous experience to appreciate the majesty of the area. And the views….oh my! There were 6 of us in the helicopter with Mike who did a great job of trying to keep the copter smooth and level at the blustery top! A fabulous experience that you should do if money allows. You won’t be disappointed! Note: no handbags or bags allowed, no peak caps, no selfie sticks or droves. Travel light with your camera or phone! There is a nice cafe at the check in station and loos too! Arrive early as you might get a change (depending on your weight) to nab the front seat!

      Not landing on great glacier
The helicopter was only landing on a small piece of ice but not a great glacier which is out of my expectation

Could not recommend this enough - words do not do it justice!
This was the best experience from our entire 3 week trip to New Zealand. Landing on the glacier and then hiking across it for a mile before being picked up by helicopter and flown back across the mountains was like nothing we had ever experienced before and there honestly aren't enough superlatives to describe how much we enjoyed it! Matt and Sam (our guides) were brilliant - super friendly, very knowledgeable and really went out of their way to ensure we had the best time possible on the trip. Could not recommend this enough!

Great experience except for system around weight
The views on this flight were incredible and I appreciated the interesting info shared by the pilot about the surrounding landscape. Would’ve appreciated hearing a bit about the local Māori history as well. Snow landing was very cool! Something I was unprepared for was (despite my husband sharing our weights ahead of time) being weighed on the day and having this written on a wristband without explanation, I assume for purpose of distributing weight evenly in the helicopter. As someone who chooses not to know my own weight this was incredibly uncomfortable and I was concerned about staff potentially reading it out loud as several of them looked at it to determine where I would sit. I suggest there are many better ways to have managed this more subtlety and hope it will be considered how this system has the potential to cause discomfort for many passengers.

Best views of Mount Cook, glaciers and gemstone-colored glacial lakes
If the weather is partly cloudy or clear and not too windy, you really can't go wrong booking this heli flight. Seems like a lot of people book a day or two in advance and switch times to make sure their flight is confirmed (minimum 4 people). We had PERFECT weather and could see for miles and miles. Mountains, glaciers, gemstone-colored glacial lakes, braided rivers, and lots of snow! It was glorious. With that said, you, of course, don't get to pick where you sit on the helicopter as seats are assigned due to body weight. If at all possible, you want to be in a seat on the left side of the heli (opposite the pilot) at a window on the first leg of the 55 min flight for the best views. As a photographer, it was a bit disappointing to be stuck in the middle for most of the flight. We switched after our glacier landing but the views weren't as exciting on the second leg of the trip. Otherwise, it was a great trip and our pilot and everyone at The Helicopter Line was very kind and helpful. We loved the experience so much, we had hoped to book a heli hike with them the following day but they were booked up.

Breathtaking, like stepping onto another planet...
Always try to allow additional days around a Heli-hike to account for poor weather. Heli-hikes were cancelled in the days leading up to our departure, however we were fortunate with the weather on our day, beautiful blue skies, and low wind. There were 5 people in our group, plus our guide who was Andy. The helicopter portion was 9 minutes long and absolutely incredible. I had never been in a helicopter before and at every turn, I was in awe. Incredible views of the Tasman glacier, snowy capped mountains and Mt Cook! The landing was smooth and those first steps onto ice felt like from a movie set. After fitting our crampons and receiving a short lesson on how to use them efficiently, Andy was able to create a route based on the ability of the group. We slowly made our way across the glacier, stepping over crevasses, with Andy having no set path to traverse across the ice. Our first ice cave we visited was said to be the longest one that had been found in a long time, slowly getting bigger over time. We were given a generous amount of time to spend in here, taking pictures and walking through at our own pace. The second ice cave, whilst smaller, was a unique shape and had some chutes which I could climb into, making it exciting to explore. We spent 1 hour and 50 min on the ice and walked around 4km, very achievable for most people and could be more or less depending on the group. The helicopter back was also around 9 minutes and we got to ride in the front seat, where we were once again treated to breathtaking views. Andy was a good guide and explained quite in depth how glaciers were formed. We were not required to wear a harness and tether ourselves to one another so there was lots of freedom on the ice.

Best tour the entire trip, worth every dollar
This was the best tour of the entire trip. Scott was our guide and he was safe, clear, passionate and very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience exploring the glaciers, the Mulans, the heli ride, it was simply a breathtaking trip.

      Wonderful wonderland experience
This was one of our top experiences on our 20 day journey through NZ. It was a magical wonderland. I am a little older and not too tall. So when the other nine people arrived, all young and tall, I expressed to my guide Andy, my concern for not being able to keep up. He was understanding and quite experienced as he put me right behind him. He made me feel like i was his best friend as he made sure I was safe and was able to enjoy every minute without slowing the group down. Thank you to Andy and the entire Mt Cook group for this incredible experience.

      Definitely worth doing
Really enjoyed our heli hike experience with Troy as a guide. We saw lots of cool things on the ice and the glacial water we collected tasted so pure and fresh it was great. Would have liked it to have more of a safety briefing of what to do on the ice if something happened. It was all fine but the health and safety briefing was all about getting on and off the helicopter and nothing about the equipment that Troy was carrying or if anything happened to him. Also some bigger sizes in coats would have been appreciated and water proof trousers people got very muddy and wet through the holes in the ice.

      Breathtaking views!
Wonderful experience as part of our honeymoon!! Beautiful flight and great guides. The views of Mount Cook and the surrounding mountains are unreal and playing on the top of the Franz Joseph glacier was fun. Highly recommend!
