About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 177frederiks0 contributionsEnjoyable visitYou see and learn a lot about the history of the slave trade. The tortoises on prison island are HUGE and a must see if you are in Zanzibar.Written July 5, 2023
- pb2016ta0 contributionsThis is a 'must do' if you are visiting ZanzibarGreat experience. However the guide was in a hurry and tried to rush us for the Prison Island part. He was knowledgeable though about Stone Town and after a discussion on his deliverables as per the listing did a good job.Written January 29, 2023
- George P0 contributionsMust do in Zanzibar if you're into culture and to see the giant tortoise 🐢Said is very knowledgeable about Stone Town. Showed me all the places of interest. Ali took me to Prison Island and was great. We even saw some turtles mating 😅Written January 27, 2023
- tam_sb4360 contributionsHalf day snorkeling tour to Mnemba AtollThis is a review for the half day snorkeling tour to Mnemba Atoll. We booked the tour for two persons at some local “beachboys” in Nungwi. For about 20$ / person after negotiation, it was for us a charming opportunity to swim with dolphins, snorkel at the Mnemba Coral Riff and to chill on a sand bank in the middle of the ocean. At least that was what they told us and therefore our expectation. The tour begun due to organization issues about 1h later, so we had to sit and wait on the beach. After we finally got on a "speedboat" with the speed of any normal boat, fighting us through the waves, where the boat almost tilted, we reached the first stop the dolphins. At that point we met other boats and the dolphin chasing started. After they showed up, we had the opportunity to swim with them for a couple of seconds but they just wanted to escape from all the boats and the people jumping into the water. After like five seconds the dolphins disappeared and the chasing started again. I decided then to skip swimming again because I was really scared of all the boats motoring amongst the swimmers so damn closely. Then we arrived to the snorkeling spot at Mnemba Island. Dozens of tour boats with lots of tourists anchored just about 100m from the island in shallow water. You can imagine all the people snorkeling so dense together and whirling up the sand even stronger than the boats. At some point there was almost no visibility at all. I can only guess how beautiful the atoll is without mass tourism. Bring your own snorkeling stuff if you have it because those, they provided were rather creepy. Our highlight of this tour was definitely the sand bank about 1-2km from Mnemba Island, even if it was very crowded too. The pure white sand and the small stripe of land made us evident how small we are in the big ocean. Our boat driver and the skipper were in our opinion not very experienced. The whole tour would be better with less tourists, or at least not all of them being on the same spot at the same time.Written January 22, 2023
- 385fawziy0 contributionsThey took our money without doing activityWe have reserved this activity with Azuli Tour on TripAdvisor. It’s written that they will pick us up at the hotel, but 1 hour before they said we need to go to an other place far from 30 min (message from TripAdvisor chat). Ok, so we get to the point, and there, there is no one waiting for us. We try to contact Azuli Tour on WhatsApp via the number that’s written on reservation, but never have any answer. So now, they just disappear with our money (99$). We hope that TripAdvisor will get us a refund quickly. If you want to book this tour, wait to be here in Zanzibar it’s better. We are waiting for a refund ! We have message proof if neededWritten January 21, 2023
- cytowi990 contributionsBeautiful tripReally nice trip. We were picked up from a hotel by a boat and started the trip searching Dolphins. We found them just like the others but there was like hunting race behind those beautiful creatures. Instead to turn off the engines and wait till they will pass by NO; racing with those horrible stinking engines. That should be forbidden by the low! This was one thing I didn’t like on the trip. Afterwards we went for snorkelling. Many boats and people but very nice. And at the end we were “swimming” on the beautiful sandbank like a blue lagoon. On the boat we got water and fresh fruits. Very nice!!!Written December 20, 2022

- brucen7020 contributionsNot happy with tour operator or TripadvisorI had a bad experience with this tour. I bought my ticket thru Tripadvisor and showed up on time, ready to go. I was accidentally picked up by a driver from a different tour operator, thinking I was his client. Once we discovered this, we were already half way there. I was returned to my hotel and then contacted the correct tour operator. They (Lazuli Tours) told me that i did not show and would not have my payment refunded. They offered no options to me. I contacted Tripadvisor for support, but got none.Written September 26, 2022
- ryjasat0 contributionsFriendly, pleasant serviceExcellent service as booked night before, was worried about reviews saying poor service but got a text at 700am saying boat will pick us up on the beach in Kendwa at 0800. Bang on 0800 the boat was there. Very cheerful chap Ali greeted us. The tour was not rushed and leisurely with a dolphin watch as well as excellent snorkellingWritten August 29, 2022

- megangwen0 contributionsThank you JulioJulio gave us an unforgettable experience, he was helpful, professional and friendly. We went snorkelling and then Julio took us out of the way of the other boats and it honestly felt like it was just us in the whole of the Indian Ocean. It was so beautiful I nearly cried. We love animals and so were keen to avoid boats of tourists who go out of their way to bother the dolphins and disturb their feeding time and Julio not only supported this I think he was pleased about it too. He told us about how some companies chase the dolphins which frightens them during their feeding times so I was glad to be giving our money to someone who respects animals as much as we do. I wish we could have done it again and would pick Julio every time.Written November 30, 2021
- SaraMalveiro0 contributionsWonderful experienceThis was one of the highest moments of my trip to Zanzibar! We swam with dolphins and saw lots of beautiful fish and coral, it seemed like a dream. We contacted Alex the day before and everything was well arranged for us the next day, we were picked up in the hotel and had access to water for the whole trip. Highly recommended!Written November 16, 2021

- leviabadi0 contributionsWe loved itWe had a really great time on this trip, we first started with Prison Island where we saw the Giant Tortoise and took pictures with them, and later we went to see the Prison ruins. After tour around the Prison Island, we went to the Sandbank, it was a 45mins boat ride from the prison Island, the Sandbank was so huge, we had a great seafood buffet at the Sandbank, with nice fresh fruits. I recommend this trip.Written February 7, 2021
