- jacobcoakwell0 contributionsAmazing Experience!!We stayed in the surf cabins and did five days of surf lessons in October. The waves were perfect this time of the year. We had an amazing experience with the surfing instructors. Pedro was awesome and very helpful. My daughters had three different instructors and they were all so fun, helpful, and nice. They remember Miguel especially. The surf school facility, the organization of lessons, and everything was top notch. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. We would highly recommend families take lessons and stay with the surf school. It was an unforgettable experience and we’ll be looking for opportunities to return.Written November 2, 2024
The place did not meet our expectations. The monitors were unresponsive, and after surfing, participants were required to bathe in cold water. Sleeping arrangements were also uncomfortable, with kids having to sleep on the cold floor for a week. It would have been helpful to be advised to bring sleeping bags and blankets. Given these issues, I would not recommend this location, especially since there are better surfing options in the area.Written July 22, 2024

- josevS5695ZX0 contributionsGreat experience in a great locationI have just returned after spending 4 excellent days learning to surf with a great instructor, Andrea. She was very attentive, friendly and most importantly very good at teaching me how to surf. The beach is perhaps the best one you can find to learn surfing ,as it is very long and has many spots where you can feel comfortable while not bothering more experts and local surfers. The beach fenced by beautiful dunes has very clean water and surrounding scenery is stunning with views to the beautiful city of Santander and the Picos de Europa. The school of surf is very well equipped, with plenty of wetsuits and all sorts of boards to fit your expertise needs. Staff were very friendly at all times, despite being clearly very busy with loads of customers coming and going. The only, but if any, is that the business may be becoming a bit a victim of its own success. Changing rooms are perhaps too small during peak times and a bit uncomfortable. I think that having a "VIP" section for those who are looking for a bit more of comfort may be a good idea. I would not have cared to pay a bit more to use a less busy changing room and have my own wetsuit for the duration of my visit. Something to think about it to provide service to a different customer segment. Thank you all who helped me during my stay, specially Andres (great instructor), Saul for his culinary recommendations, Elisa and Silvia, I think Nacho was the name of the chap who also was very friendly and helpful. Everyone had a smile and always found the time to help despite being clearly very busy. Best of luck and success. PepeWritten September 13, 2021

- 162mb0 contributionshorrible management, nice instructorInstructor was good. Management terrible. Dollar signs in the eyes bigger then the waves. When we registered by mail in advance we received a lot of emails in spanish, no times when the classes started. We had to pay in advance. At arrival we went at the office one day before to ask if everything was correct and what time the class would start. Everything ok, classes started at 11. When our girls got there the next morning, they needed passports. Which wasn't told. Us parents went there to bring the passports, when there, 'the girls are under 18, we need your passports' When I got mad, the boss arrived, they went one hour later. (no waves anymore) I made very clear in the emails when making the reservation the girls were no beginners, they were scheduled with absolute beginners. When I complained after class, the boss/manager handled the situation in a very management style way. When I told him I thought the dollar signs in his eyes were bigger then the waves, he started to realize something went wrong. Luckily, the waves were great, the instructor too. When finished after 5 days, an having paid the full amount I received an email in English with the times an a form they need to fill in at advance. Our girls have surfed a bit around, in Spain too, this was not a very relaxed surfschool.Written July 25, 2021
- charlottesJ6763OC0 contributionsBest instructor we've ever had!Surf instructor Jose ('Huevo Frito') learned us to catch waves from day one. He's incredibely funny, optimistic, experienced and patient. Big smiles every day! He gave us individual feedback in fluent English and made us feel like surfers, even on days with small waves. The school itself is professional and flexible. Only 2 minutes walking to the beach, only 25 euro for a two-hour lesson, wetsuit and surf board. Good vibes :)Written July 21, 2021
- alexander_kular0 contributionsGreat place lovely staffI came to Somo wanting to have a good surfing holiday and thanks to this shop my dream was realised! The staff was extremely friendly and I definitely want to come back next year.Written August 29, 2019
- Andrea P0 contributionsGreat surf instructorsThe school is located very close to the beach and has very good materials. There are lockers in the changing rooms which is very useful. It can be chaotic at times as it's often too busy, as a result staff can be stressed out and not always friendly. Our surfing teacher, Roberto, is a very good teacher and we learned and improved a lot thanks to him. His explanations were very clear and he helped us to get rid of the fear. We thoroughly recommend to have lessons with him.Written August 2, 2019
- louisebundgaard0 contributionsAlways good funWe have visited Somo for a week the last two years and used Escuela Cantabria de Surf for board rental and surf lessons. This is an amazing surf school with great and skilled people that are very commited and have a lot of positive energy and passion. Great atmosphere! Absolutely recommendable!Written July 14, 2019
- _NP_0 contributionsOrganised, keeping it interesting, would recomend to wisitWere staying nearby for couple of day's. Had booked an intensive lessons, intermediate level, for one day. Lessons are divided in two sections - first part, some hours to rest, than second part. You can see from start, that these guy's have been teaching surfing for a long time - inventory is all good and if your level alowe's, you can try various boards (soft or hard top) and size's also (vill have some recomendations from coache's also). I was the only one that did not know Spanish, so all group voted, that it is ok to take lessons ENG/SPANISH :) Although ocean was a bit to tough for us that day, I learned some things and foam water was usable. First part of day managed to get through to green waves also. After intensive lessons was completely out of energy :D This was the best lesson during my Northern coast line trip, would recomend to take more day's here - will be more productive, cause teachers can observe and give you more advices.Written March 2, 2019
- Maria Letizia C0 contributionsGreat experience, would definitely do it again! The instructors and the staff in general were all very nice, and more importantly, seemed to me very well prepared and organised. I was there in August, on a weekend, and like me there were MANY people wanting to surf with them: although being in a large group was a bit annoying (especially once in the water, sometimes being too many surfing in the same spot became dangerous), the school kept everything under complete control. Anyhow, if you can, I would recommend not to go on summer weekends. It was my first experience surfing, and I feel like I've been introduced to it quite smoothly, and safely at the same time. I'm very grateful to all the staff, especially to Pablo "Pablito": he gave us all an awesome, priceless energy! I slept in the tents the school provides if you choose the surf camp (I attached some pics, seems like nobody has so far); the experience was cool because there were many young, friendly people from all over Europe and you can't possibly feel alone. The camping is at a 20-minute-walk from the school, so prepare to walk, or bring a bike/skateboard/... Their tents are inside a proper, larger camping, so it has all the necessary facilities (electricity, showers, shop, restaurant...). I really didnt like the breakfast served in the restaurant (and moreover it opened at 9am, that in my opinion is too late), but the food served at lunch was good. It's true, as you read, that inside the school you have to pay for the shower (1€), but I would have put the same price if I only had TWO showers for a dozens of clients all finishing the class at the same time... it's about logistics, I believe! In short: do it!Written August 20, 2018
- Kym D0 contributionsGreat surf schoolWe are a family of 3 who have never surfed and booked 6 days of lessons. The instructors were all fantastic and we had a great time so much so we will come back. Our son is 8 and the instructors were brilliant with him and he got it really quickly. They all spoke English well and provided feedback on how to improve your surfing. We were in the English group and had a range of 3-12 others with 1-3 instructors depending of the number in the group on the day. Our last day was just us which was nice. Unlike ski school where it's a fixed number of people for a set amount of days this offers more flexibility. Some people joined for 3 days and some for 1 or 2. Lots of Spanish children and teenagers had lessons and whilst it was busy the staff were very efficient and you could tell it was a popular surf school. The website is only in Spanish but the staff at the shop also speak English well and organise the surf lesson groups very quickly. The shop has changing facilities and whilst there are no lockers it is safe to leave your clothes in the changing room. The front desk will keep your keys, phones and glasses safe for you. There are showers for €1. The school is right near the beach so not too far to walk with your board. I would recommend 3 days of lessons and have a day off (as you do feel physically exhausted) and then have a few more lessons again. The school also offers a reduced price if you want to hire boards and wetsuits in he afternoon if you have lessons with them. We only managed it once!Written August 10, 2017

We booked 2 days. The first day we were the only 2 in our group so had lots of coaching and support which was great. The second day we were with a bigger group so were able to practise our skills and also have the help of the instructors. Great experience. encouraging instructors.

Great experience, it is not the first time we teach there. The truth is that the teachers are the best, they teach a method and connect with you, great professionals. Special mention to Huevo and Chipi. Ask about them. Two very different styles, great quality.

Such a blast! Great organization, incredible & spectacular location, top gear, great waves. Surf experience at Top level. We booked a two days private course for our family - 6y, 12y and two over 40. Our instructor, Miguel Welsh, was super at teaching both in English and Italian for our little girl and made us enjoy our first experience surfing a lot. Great memories!

My partner and I booked a double through nomad surfes. We arrived, we checked in a la escuela and after a “macaronic” conversation (I’m Italian, we spoke in Spanish and I probably didn’t understand everything perfectly) we found ourselves in a double room with 2 bunk beds!!!! I called the Escuela, the mistake may have been mine for not having understood Spanish perfectly, but I was told, in an arrogant and unprofessional way, that I had now accepted, that I had been told (very quickly and after all the data entry and payment). Fact is, that I had booked and reserved a double with a lot of mail with photos! And when I went back to school they told me that the real problem is that there were no more marriages...!!!
NON-PROFESSIONAL SERVICE. Boys who unfortunately do not know what it means to work and relate to the public.
Excellent surf lesson with Pedro.
