Hi light of our trip to Wexford. We visited as a family of 4 and paid for the guided tour which I cannot recommend enough. Our tour guide Jason was outstanding and so knowledgable, friendly and funny. He really made sure to include my 2 young kids so the info was as relevant to them as well. You don’t have to pay to walk around the grounds of the lighthouse but I would suggest the tour if you are visiting as it’s the only way to enter the lighthouse but it’s also such a great tour and the views from the top are outstanding. While we were there there was an opportunity to do a painting class where you were able to paint onto slate. It’s looked great fun and was very reasonable but we didn’t know about it in advance and didn’t have the time to stay but we will if ever we go back.

Just had an amazing time here today 10/11/21.
Our tour guide was Jason, what a brilliant tour he gave, the building is steeped in history and fantastic to experience and see, and the view on a beautiful day was amazing.
We finished off by having lunch in adjoining restaurant, where the food was excellent, I would highly recommend the sea food chowder it was fab. They only had a small bit left when we arrived we were disappointed as people on the tour were saying it was fab.
They were cooking more but was too late for us, and we were completely delighted They brought us a taster. It was just fantastic.
The staff were so friendly and helpful and funny. Top marks to the hook light house team and highly recommended the tour and trip. Well done folks.

Hook Lighthouse and the surrounding area are impressive on their own, but the tour guide absolutely brought it to life. He was funny, charming, engaged so nicely with the small children on the tour, and wove in story and facts seamlessly. I was nervous that a 45-minute tour might be too much for my boys - aged 4 & 6 - but they loved it as much as we did.

Fantastic scenery, lots of history, a true Irish heritage site well worth the trip. Special mention for the friendly welcome, the great guide, full of wonderfully detailed information about the local history. Finally, the cafe serves delicious fish dishes for a very reasonable price.

Our tour guide was so engaging and informative. The tour starts off in a lookout room where you learn that Hook Head is the third (!) most dangerous crossing in the world. A good explanation on how the lighthouse has changed over the years ensues. You then get to climb the tower and learn more on each level. I thought the videos were not too campy and added to the experience, especially since our guide interacted with them and acted like he was speaking to them. He was incredibly informative on the history of hook head in all eras and was lovely enough to offer to take pictures of us at the top (the views are well work it—you can see the beach where the Normans first came to Ireland from the top!). This is definitely a must do on any trip to the area

The weather the day we were there was very good, so we had great views from the lighthouse.
Our guide was John and he is very knowledgeable and extremely enthusiastic about his subject. He was very good at telling the story of the lighthouse and the people associated with it. He is from the area and worked there before it became automated. I learned a lot from him and in fact his enthusiasm encouraged me to further research it and the people of the lighthouse myself.
The lighthouse was quite busy. We prebooked car parking, which was a great idea. There is a playground in the grounds, along with a cafe, an art studio and various other food and drink options outside. There were picnic benches outside which were very busy.

Excellent guided tour of light house. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable & interested in his job he had great stories to share. Kids loved it especially pirate ship play structure. Lovely coffee shop fab views from conservatory. We did try to book online but kept coming up as no availability so we we booked an access pass which was free so you get access to everything in ground except lighthouse. We got a tour no problem but I don't think it's very clear from website the way things are running due to mixed groups/covid 19. Well worth the trip to hook head for views alone.

Fascinating history associated with this oldest operational lighthouse in the world. The architecture is incredible and it’s evolution is so interesting.
Climbing the inside and witnessing the various layers with access out onto the viewing deck was a thrill.

Great family tour and trip to Hook Lighthouse. Our tour guide John was enthusiastic, professional and highly informed on the history of the Lighthouse. The tour was great value and lasted 1 hour with the opportunity to take plenty of pictures once you reached the viewing area. The surrounding picnic area is spacious and well maintained and the views are simply stunning. Facilities were clean and the tour was not crowded. Bring comfortable shoes as there are a lot of steps in the lighthouse. Thanks John and the team for a really enjoyable day out.
