Archery has a long history the world over. Tribesmen were hunting with bow and arrow at least 25,000 years ago, and still are today in remote areas. Many historians think the invention of the bow was as important as fire and the wheel. Although originally the bow and arrow seem to have been used for battle or for hunting, they have also been universally used for sports and tests of skill.
Here in New Zealand (and worldwide) it’s a sophisticated sport that is increasing in popularity as modern technology introduces improvements to equipment.
At Hanmer Springs Adventure Centre our competent instructors will help you master the technique of shooting using a variation of the composite recurve bow, very similar to those the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Persians and Chinese (among others) used in battle and for sporting contests.
You will be transported from our store located in the heart of the Hanmer springs village and transferred through to our archery range; the transfer takes approximately 10 minutes.
On arrival your instructor will take you through the safety procedures. After the safety briefing, the activity commences for approximately 30mins.
Your instructor will teach the basics and guide you in perfecting your archery technique. An ideal activity for all, you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll be going for the bulls-eye. After the activity, you will be transferred back to the adventure centre.
