After meeting your guide, you’ll cycle into the warren of stone alleys that make up the city’s historic quarter. A mostly car-free area that’s great for cyclists, Bari Old Town (Bari Vecchia) is home to a collection of sights. See the Basilica of San Nicholas, which holds the relics of the saint known as Santa Claus, and visit the famous crypt.
Continue to Succorpo della Cattedrale, a subterranean museum inside the cathedral, and learn about the excavations of underground Roman walls. At the nearby Archaeological Museum of Santa Scolastica, you’ll hear tales of Bari’s early residents, known as the Peuceti.
Stop at the Swabian Castle to admire its collection of plaster casts and artwork, then head to Palazzo Simi, a palace atop a Byzantine church. Admire the palazzo’s antique pottery before you pedal to your last stop at the Civic Museum of Bari. Hop back on your bike for a jaunt through Bari’s French quarter, complete with seaside views and modern buildings. Then finish with a tasting of local food.
