Itinerary
- 1Our trip takes us across small villages down to the picturesque, former fishing village of Elounda. There is a private fishing boat, which takes us to the island of Spinalonga after a relaxing ride through the blue sea. Here we have the opportunity to learn more about the history of the island. We talked to the inhabitants of the region and learned a lot about the life stories and fates of the people who lived or worked on the island. We would like to share this insight into the history and the personal life of different people. After an extensive tour with our competent tour guide, we will go to the beautiful place Plaka. In a tavern with a cozy atmosphere, we have lunch and enjoy the view of Spinalonga Island. Here we can end the many impressions and who would like to take a small leap into the sea. Last, visit the beautiful town of Agios Nikolaos and enjoy free time at the bottomless lake.

Sad!I’ll just leave a review of how I felt we were treated by our interactions and the first impression of Finikia Horse Riding being identified as ‘calling numerous times. They do not transport you from cruise port in Chania!! You are required to pay a taxi or take a bus, which comes every hourThis company seemed very disorganized in how they treat their paying guests with reservations. - Charlotte O0 contributionsDisgracefulAbsolutely awful, we booked to do a cruise around the blue Lagoon. We arranged accommodation around the cruise as we were on a road trip. Only to be told that the cruise was cancelled. We were offered another cruise in a completely different area which we couldn't make due to our other arrangements. So we asked for a refund. Nearly one month later and we have only just received our refund with no other communication or apologies for the delay. We spoke to the rep who was dealing with a cruise on serval occasions and even different languages. She was extremely rude. I wouldn't suggest anyone to book and if you do expect a long wait for a refund and unpleasant customer service.Written October 31, 2024

Transported from stalis to agios nickalious by air-conditioned coach. Tour guide on board excellent. 6 or 7 pick ups before onward journey but not too bad. Free time before boarding boat. Lunch was OK, nothing special but good enough. Cruise good. Plenty of information from guides. Swim stop on the way . Spinalonga amazing. Downside was I was not told that €8 euro entrance fee was not included in the price from the agent . Great place of interest and a great talk from Gloria the guide. Most passionate about the place. Good value for money trip.

We had visited Spinalonga alone in 2023 and had been so moved, and also after reading the island of the forgotten that we wanted to return. This year we went on an excursion organized by Cretan Holidays. Our Guide Catharina, Check-out from Elounda who speaks very good French, has enriched our knowledge. Although the history of the leper colony between 1904 and 1957 is tragic, the island remains beautiful. There is a great deal of emotion and respect for these exiles and their carers.
However, I wonder if soon the visits should not be limited especially since the entrances to 8 € did not allow to progress the work since our last visit and in some places we had the feeling of being in the metro at busy times.

Dear Claude,
Thank you for choosing Cretan Holidays for your return visit to Spinalonga. We’re glad to hear that your knowledge of the island was further enriched, and we share your sentiment about the emotional significance and beauty of this historic place. Spinalonga truly leaves a lasting impression.
Your thoughts on the preservation efforts and the increasing number of visitors are insightful, and we understand the concern. We hope that steps will be taken to ensure that the island continues to be appreciated in a respectful and sustainable way.

Our guide is incredibly enthusiastic and has introduced us to the history of the island bit by bit and answered every question with enthusiasm.
Elunda (stopover and change from bus to boat) is worth an extra afternoon. As I write this, he explains more stories and the winding bus ride flies to the exciting drive-in cinema (audio cinema). Since I've been on the bus, I've been learning about the country and people and history with enthusiasm.
This tour can certainly be set up instead of 94€ cheaper but whether the ride and guide, lunch incl. drinks are comparable. Maybe because about tour guide more expensive, still unknown ?
I highly recommend this tour.

It was a day trip by bus and boat.
Our tour guide Ireni and the driver Michaelis are both very experienced.
We visited a small men's monastery dedicated to St. George.
We drove up and down a mountain range on a winding road to the sea.
We took a boat trip to the island of Spinalonga, which was blasted off from a long peninsula and built as a fortress.
The view over the sea to small islands and the long peninsula is beautiful.
On Spinalonga we walked through an abandoned village that is being restored.
And we learned a lot about the lepers who were the last to live on the island.
We had lunch in Plaka, on the balcony of a good restaurant.
And on the way home we stopped in Agios Nikolaos.
There were no cruise ships there at the time, so we were able to stroll through the town in peace.
Ireni told us a lot about the island and its people and organized everything very well.
And our driver handled every situation confidently and calmly. Sometimes the streets are just narrow.
When we are back in Crete, we will be happy to choose a new trip with cretan holidays.
Many thanks to our hosts and to the group, who worked well together

Excursion a little expensive in view of the program. The Guide was perfect. Nevertheless, we only had free time on Spinalonga, which did not allow us to make the most of it.
In the afternoon, the visit of Agios is completely free, we would have liked to know points of history of this beautiful city. Nice excursion as a whole but the Award Value is not there, especially as entry to the island is not very expensive.

We have had a nice drive with sunrise over several stations to Spinalonga Island. Our guide gave us the necessary information in German all the way through. There was also some general information about Greece and Crete. The tour on the island of Spinalonga was also done by herself. Lunch was served in a tavern in Elounda. At the end of the tour we still drove to Nikolaos. It was worth it.

This was an amazing trip food was great there were different interpreters my husband and myself really enjoyed it. From coach pick up to drop off for the boat was smooth. Then you get some time to get into the sea but carry you beach shoes as the water is a bit stoney but warmish👍🏽

Very good excursion to do in the area Agios Nickolas
We were taken care of on a cayak with several people about forty
Trip of about 30 minutes
Completely exotic visit
We were fortunate to have a Guide who spoke competent French
Who knew how to explain the history of lepers on the island and return to the key moments of history and wildlife
Answered all our questions
Not too many people on the island to visit well
Then swimming in the open sea for those who wanted it
Then excellent typical restaurant very well served
Then stop in Agios Nikolaos too touristy too crowded for September
I imagine July August
Nothing to bring back because everything made in china
Very little craftsmanship
Too bad.
Otherwise an excursion to do because in the surroundings not much to see
And again excellent Guide
