Great tour to explore the glacier
Oct 2021 • Couples
Michal was an excellent guide for the glacier and ice cave, and a great teacher to help us master crampon walking. We had a blast!

Great glacier hike thanks to Kári
Sep 2021
Awesome experience with Kári as our guide. He was great; very personable and funny, and very patient with our group. Can't speak highly enough of him, he really did make the whole experience for us.

Amazing experience!
We took the 3 hour hike and it was amazing! The views, the weather, the hospitality, the hike and specially the tour guide Kari Timsson! He was so great, so much fun and so handsome. Ask for him if you take any of the tours, he can do it all! Highly recommend it!

Unforgettable Adventure Thanks to Florent, Mary, and Marco
Jul 2021
We had a phenomenal tour led by our knowledgeable guides Florent, Mary, and Marco. We were very lucky to have three guides with us. It was clear that the guides knew a lot about the glacier, and we learned so much about the history of the glaciers as well. We spent an entire half day on the glacier - would highly recommend this to anyone else!

communications is key
May 2021
We booked and paid about a month in advance, directly on their website, which was clear and simple.

Our group was only 6 people (3 sets of couples), which was nice, but for whatever reason, maybe they didn't have enough bookings or not enough staff, our 5-hour tour was grouped with 4 people who booked 3 hour tours. This was not really communicated to us at all until the guide said "we will come back to this parking lot at 1pm" and I realized something was not right. Especially because the other people didn't bring much with them. One couple didn't even have any water. I had to ask the guide what was going on.

It turned out our guide was a freelancer who was called in last minute. The company bus/van had broken down, which was fine because everyone had cars and we could drive ourselves to the location of the start (which is not actually the park, that's just the meeting point). But the guide had intentionally left equipment on the glacier from a previous tour and we had to wait for him for quite a while to retrieve them, which was wasted time.

Our guide was perfectly nice, capable, knowledgeable about glaciers, and had a great sense of humor. But we did not receive communications about what to expect during the tour. It's not entirely his fault because he was essentially a substitute. I do appreciate that he was transparent about this.

Ultimately our tour did not end until about 2:30 or 3pm so the other 2 couples probably paid less than we did. And one of them actually missed a boat tour that day because of this.

I don't think we had the typical or the full Icelandic Mountain Guide experience. The glacier was incredible but even with a small group, there was a lot of waiting around and not a lot of action. We are active people and that aspect of the tour was slightly disappointing so it felt like we overpaid for a less-than typical experience.

Awesome time hiking a glacier, despite wintry conditions!
Sep 2019
We had an awesome time hiking VirkisJokull with our guide. We rented some pants, jackets and shoes, which made the trip in hard rain enjoyable! Despite the weather our guide made us feel very comfrotable and we were able to hike a few hours right below the ice falls. We even heard some breaking which was exciting. An incredible experience!

Hello wrichter, Thank you for writing this review and we are glad that you enjoy the hike despite the rain :) It is also very lucky that you guys witness some calving of the glacier, that must be a very unforgettable experience. We hope that you had enjoyed your stay in Iceland, and hopefully we will see you next time when you come back to Iceland for holiday!

Must see if you visit Iceland
We took a 4+ hour hike up the glacier, our second glacier hike (1st in Alaska). The experience was awesome. Our group was small (8 people). Our guides Dan, Agatha and Robert were knowledgeable and aware of our capabilities - they made sure we maximized the opportunity as we trekked high up the glacier.

The trip was informational as they explained a great deal of information about Iceland, the glacier, and the glacial life cycle. Dan and Agatha were patient but appropriately assuring and assertive about pushing the group to maximize the hike and experience. We learned the technical aspects of climbing, with appropriate safety. They made sure we learned, experienced and enjoyed. You can’t ask for more than that from guides.

The glacier itself is amazing - and Icelandic Mountain Guides select the best glacier for the guided hike. I learned about Iceland, glaciers, technical climbing and made new friends (Dan, Agatha and Robert).

Can’t say enough about this adventure - just do it!

A must do for all outdoor enthusiasts
Aug 2019 • Family
We chose a full day glacier adventure. In a group of 7 people, we hiked to the glacier Skaftafell and through it. Out guide, Rowan, was simply the best! He took us on a tour that only he provides among all the guides, so we were alone on the glacier! It was such an unique experience, we felt safe all the time, and because we were quite fast, we did some ice climbing at the end. So, I must say that it is a great experience and well worth the money.
