- Q9270OJstephenn0 contributionsRelaxing day.Was a very relaxing day, the staff was very nice, happy and knowledgeable about the area. Nice scenery and good drinks!!Written November 9, 2024
- J809ZLjoes0 contributionsGreat to see Northern Arizona and all of the natural beauty and history.Beautiful ride. The staff is great, they are always engaged and a great sense of humor and knowledge. Natural beauty and history. Clark has a forever lasting finger print on Arizona as well as Nevada. Ranching, Mining, Business and American guts and glory. Loved the Lee Greenwood finale song near the end of the trip. We are Americans above all.Written November 7, 2024
- cindypP1427BM0 contributionsBeautiful scenery a must do in Sedona!Wow wow and wow! What a great trip! The employees are so nice and very knowledgeable. We ordered food when making g the reservation. They make HUGE sandwiches and they are great! When you board the train you get a very nice charcuterie box and a small bottle of sparking wine and a bottle of water. The sandwiches were not necessary as I couldn’t eat anything after half my sandwich! We took the boxes home and had for lunch the next day. It’s pricey but I would do it again. Such a beautiful train ride — we had some rain right before we took off but the rest of the day was awesome!Written November 5, 2024
- rodgerj7850 contributionsGo for it. Great day trip from Phoenix.Worth every dime. From the depot experience to the crew on train it was a good time. Snack trays onboard were a nice treat. Comfortable chairs in the cars. Would have been better with PA system outside to announce departure locations by cars before loading. Little confusion by some. Great experience. Bucket list item checked.Written October 30, 2024
- Karen K0 contributionsVerde Canyon RailroadThe train ride itself was great and views were awesome! We had a very informative young man that gave us so much information in the outside rail car which was a bonus! FYI when you make reservations ask NOT to be seated near restroom or door to outside train car. We didn't know this and it really made our inside train car experience not very enjoyable as people were constantly in and out of bathroom and going in and out of our railcar.Written October 27, 2024
- Robert W0 contributionsAnniversary TripOverall outstanding. Facilities were clean, spacious and enjoyable. Gift shop personnel were friendly and helpful. Food was fresh and very tasty. The train cars were clean inviting and comfortable. Ivy our bar tender hostess was excellent and very knowledgeable of the train and area history. Nick was great in the out door car pointing out various interesting facts. Will do this event again and bring more family and friends. We'll done!Written October 26, 2024

- V7583OEdavidk0 contributionsGrand Canyon plus tripThe views were amazing and the staff are awesome. The lunch provided was very good. You also have a meat and cheese tray waiting for you when you get on the train which has a lot of food.Written October 24, 2024
- candieg20210 contributionsPerfect Day Trip!Very scenic and enjoyable train ride. Loved that we could sit inside or walk out to the open gondola whenever we wanted to and the snacks and bar in each car was great. All the staff we encountered were great and very helpful. We did this and the Grand Canyon Railway in the same week and hands down this was the better of the two for the train ride experience. Also, we spent a little time in Cottonwood before the train and it is a great little town for some shopping, wine and/or a meal.Written October 19, 2024
- B4746YZgeraldw0 contributionsAwesome Tour Not OverpricedThis was an awesome tour. Most bang for the buck! With ticket given Cafe voucher that got you a good lunch and drink to have before boarding train or to bring on train with you. But on train got a fantastic Charcuterie tray, water bottles and champagne for toast. Then there was a small bar where you can purchase a variety of mixed drinks that were quite good. Comfortable upholstered bench seats in air conditioned car. Service was great and entertaining. Staff wrre fantastic. And then the awe inspiring views of Verde Canyon. The second largest canyon in Arizona. The outside car for viewing was perfect and has bench seats when you may need to sit down and rest. But that is hard to do when you are glued to the sides taking in the views. And narration all along the way pointing out points of interest. I can't recommend this adventure more.Written October 16, 2024
- user314158650 contributionsDisappointed (previously) loyal customerI visit second and Jérôme every year. We take time verde canyon train ride every year and always bring friends. I reserve way in advance (July purchase for October tour) and pay way in advance also. We got the virtual back of the bus. We were there but there was another part of there and they got couches and we weren’t even seated h together two on chair’s and one on a couch with people she didn’t know. Considering how far in advance we purchased our tickets we should have been seated together. I’ve come year four 12 years but won’t be back.Written October 15, 2024
- R9248LZpeggyf0 contributionsAnniversary Train RideI was hoping for fall color, but it has been too hot. However, the views of the red cliffs were awesome and the guides were fun and knowledgeable. The lunch was good and so were the snacks.Written October 5, 2024
- tsseb820 contributionsLuxury, GREAT service, and AMAZING Views!Luxury, GREAT service, and AMAZING Views!!!! This ride is well worth the price. You travel in luxurious comfort, are well fed and well cared for!!! The food options for the included lunch are many. We ordered our meal around 12:15 and brought it onto the train. My wife and I both had the turkey sandwich and it was big and tasty. That said, there was another snack box waiting for us on the grain. That one went home with us. We were assigned to the Prescot car. Michael was our car host. He has a GREAT personality, tells wonderful stories, and provided outstanding service. He definitely helped make the ride memorable. The only negative was that the narration was sometimes hard to hear, especially with passengers talking, which they are apt to do in a social setting.Written September 27, 2024
- andyp610 contributionsViews from the rails!Really enjoyed the views while riding in luxury. Lots of interesting geology. Well looked after by the staff. Surprised by the box of snacks included in the package. Interesting information given via the tanoy.Written September 27, 2024
- HernOkies0 contributionsBest Scenic Train Adventure! This was our 3rd time to take the Verde Canyon train adventure and it was the best primarily because of (Nate) our Bartender)m and (Tim) his partner that worked the outside car & kept us informed on each upcoming scenic spot & photo opportunity. They were both fun, informative & really made the trip! The service in our car was excellent!! The charcuterie apps were great. Our only complaint was that if you had a party of 4 your only opportunity to see the river side of the train was from the outside car. However, this is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon & see some beautiful scenery. We even got to see a bald eagle.Written September 26, 2024

“The third most scenic railroad”. They didn’t say if that was third most scenic in the world, in the US, or just in AZ, but it was certainly scenic. A geologic layer cake of sandstone & limestone, a cliff dwelling, a lush river valley, and both extant and abandoned homesteads. Incredible stargazing once the sun set! 3.5 hours for a 40 mile round trip. We did the evening wine tasting ride. Would only do the wine tasting again if it were the evening for Arizona wineries. Overall, a great way to spend an evening together.

A very comfortable train ride through beautiful and awe inspiring scenery. The staff are thoughtful, cheerful and seem to be having as much fun as we were.
The choice of wines, of course, are limited, but they came with delightful snacks. There was also a full bar for those who want other drinks.

The Verde Valley Railway staff are exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable of the history of the region, and fun. We enjoyed tasting 5 different wines, and they were available for sale at reasonable rates. Other beverages were available for sale. The charcuterie board was delicious and filling and that's just the train experience.
The scenery traveling through the gorge was magnificent as we rode right above the Verde River. Sunset on the canyon walls made for great photo opportunities. At nightfall moon and star gazing was just as beautiful. Highly recommend this experience and it's worth the cost!

My husband and I did the wine-tasting tour. While we did have a table for two, it was on the opposite side of the other small tables that had the view. So we had either full sun on us or a rock wall to look at. This is definitely need-to-know information, although I'm not sure you can "reserve" a spot on the good side of the train.
Unfortunately, the excursion was marred by the host of our car. (Shall remain nameless). But she first announced that our car was NOT part of the wine-tasting, and when we all looked at her in shock and began showing our receipts, she apologized but said she simply "wasn't educated" on any of the wines. Sheesh. A champagne toast was hurriedly poured, but never announced, so we all just drank it on our own time.
Yes, the music was a bit loud, but our host literally SHOUTED over it--kind of annoying. Give the girl a lavalier microphone with a battery pack, for goodness' sake! And the wine-tasting: the wines were good. But there WAS apparently some sort of mix-up with our car, because another host came through and poured us wine but offered no explanation--just pointed to the pre-printed card we had been given and told us all the information was there. The entire car was just a collective "afterthought".
For what we paid, it was kind of a disappointment.

We are so sorry for the confusion that occurred with your wine tasting event. These comments have been taken into consideration and retraining is happening now. This is not how we would like a customer of Verde Canyon Railroad to feel. We pride ourselves in quality service and a pleasant presentation.

I believe the enclosed cars were air conditioned but we spent 99% of our time on the outdoor viewing car which is by far the best way to see the beauty of the canyon. In any event, because the trip is at a higher elevation than most of southern AZ., having AC wasn't necessary for the trip. It was an evening trip and being outside even in July was very comfortable.
