Theodore Roosevelt was sworn into office at this nice house seated in downtown Buffalo. I didn't plan this visit and just missed a tour. After talking with the great staff, They let me do a preview of the house seeing the displays in the entrance and the main rooms on first floor which was interesting.
I saw the room he got inaugurated in and Ansley Wilcox's desk where Roosevelt wrote his first official proclamation as President of the United States. I would call ahead if you want the full experience since the guided tour is about an hour long and leaves at certain intervals.
I got a pass from my library for National Parks in NYS and this site is considered one of them. The place has a nice gift shop too.
A must for history buffs, esp those that love politics.

As a national park service fan and social studies teacher, this place has been on my bucket list for quite some time. While 2020 has been an odd year for all of us, the recent reopening of this site could serve as the model of how museums can operate during times like this. Times reservations are available online, and only one household is permitted on a tour at once with a max of 6 people. There is metered parking up front and a parking lot directly behind the site for free. You’ll enter the visitor center and be greeted by the tour guides and rangers. There is an opening video that sets the tone for what the site is about. The gift shop is also located here, with arrows controlling crowd flow. This site is unique in that it covers a specific event in time rather than just preserving a home or telling a longer story. Our guide, Brandon was phenomenal. Can’t say enough about how informative he was. The tour begins as the story of the site does, at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo where McKinley was fatally shot. From there you’ll tour the various rooms of the home. What’s great about this site for kids is that it’s very interactive, and despite not being totally accessible the site has been made as sanitized as possible. If you’re questioning going, leave those doubts behind and make a reservation. The team there is great, you can obtain your passport stamps there, and there are hand sanitizers in every room.

Thank you so much for this very positive review. As the only park in the entire NPS system with a volunteer Board of Trustees who are charged with the management, maintenance, operations, planning, and interpretation of the TR Inaugural Site, and with no federal employees, I'm delighted to know you enjoyed your visit. And, the fact that you found the measures we have taken made you and your family comfortable is very reassuring. I'll be sure to share your review with both the staff and our volunteer leadership and I thank you so much for taking the time to share your observations.
Best regards,

I very much enjoyed our tour of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site. At this time, tours are limited to small groups, and you must make a reservation. The nice man who led our tour was friendly and knowledgeable. We were able to learn a lot about the history of the time and President Roosevelt. There is free parking at the back of the building.

A brilliant site of American history. It is an extraordinary building which is well preserved with original items. It’s hard to comprehend how important the events of Roosevelt were during this national crisis.
To stand in the very room where Roosevelt became President is both humbling and amazing.
There is some free parking on site as time has moved on the city has grown around this house so don’t be thrown off by the new business neighbors
There is a nice film which helps set the stage for your visit
Go enjoy

A very informative museum dealing with the period of the Pan American exhibit in Buffalo in 1901, the subsequent assassination of President McKinley, and the inauguration of President Theodore Roosevelt.
You see the actual room where Teddy Roosevelt was sworn in and the press he received. This was a learning experience and highlighted the importance of Buffalo, New York at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Have been a presedential nerd since I was a kid. Love all the history of our presidents and obviously love my city. This place had a great guided tour and I learned some really fascinating new facts about the assassination of President Mckinley I was not aware of as well as new information about President Roosevelt again I was not aware of. Highly recommend this place for anyone interested in presidential history.

Lots of information about Teddy, how he came to be President and the things he implemented our country. We watched 3 videos and although our tour guide was very knowledgeable, we did feel rushed thru it. He told us we could take pics, but we weren't in a room long enough to take to many. We were the only 2 in this guided tour and it was the last one of the day. If you're into Presidential history, this is worth your time.

What a wonderful experience! Call ahead or book on line before you go. There is free parking available on site and the price is reasonable. They have a stocked giftshop full of Roosevelt items. The tour itself was extremely informative about the president and other key figures surrounding the assassination and assumption of the presidency. There is even an opportunity to have your picture taken at a replica White House office desk and enjoy interactive video exhibits.

We learned a lot about Teddy through the tour and various wall displays throughout the house. We love old houses and the history behind them. So to tour an old house that has ties with a President was wonderful.
I think we spent about an hour or so here. There is a small parking lot behind the house. There is an ally way on the right side of the house. You actually look like you are going to an ATM, but right passed the ATM is the parking lot. You can enter through the back of the house. They have a great interactive item at the end of the tour and then you are allowed to stay and read all the displays at your own leisure.
Glad we came!

I’m glad we went, but I would have liked more depth about Theodore Roosevelt’s career prior to becoming president and how he ended up being vice-president. The information seemed superficial and didn’t add much to my knowledge of Theodore Roosevelt. I would have like to have known why McKinley was assasinated It was very much a snapshot in time with little detail on either side.
