Our group of nine ages 7-40+ took this tour on a Thursday evening with April. The area was crowded and bustling, but April took measures to make sure we could find her and hear her throughout the entire tour. She often made sure everyone was doing okay. She was great with our younger members, but didn't hold back on some "adult" information, which we were pleased about. She was mindful of everyone's needs on the entire tour. The trip was about 2 hours and 15 minutes and worth every penny. My recommendation would to be wear comfortable shows, bring cash to tip, and go at night because it added a cool vibe to the tour.

This tour is a perfect combination of history and paranormal stories, all based in the history of the town, None of the information feels forced or inauthentic. Ryan, our amazing tour guide, clearly has passion for these stories and delivers them with enthusiasm that isn't neither theatric nor forced. He was able to answer every question in our group with a long, knowledgeable answer. Moreover, Ryan knew the city well enough to allow us to experience each site, but then find a more private, less populated area to explain the history behind the site we passed.

As for this tour being paranormal (somewhat) in nature, it did not feel like an episode of Ghost Hunters in that it was not based in presumption. Ryan told the stories of history and how they may or may not be related to the spirits that remain there. Much of it is up for your own interpretation.

If you are in the area and have not yet experienced the Witch City History and Hauntings tour, you must take the time to join in. It is definitely worth the price being that it is a 2 hour tour full of the history of the area (not just 1692).

You start the tour in Derby Square on the steps of the Old Town Hall and end at the Salem Memorial nearby. The theme of this tour, along with many other tours, is to learn from history lest you are doomed to repeat it.

April was our tour guide and she was AWESOME!!! We were running a bit behind due to the traffic (surprise) and I reached out to April giving her a heads up and she was kind enough to give suggestions on where to park. She gave such a vivid representation of telling these historic stories with such detail that it impacted the way I looked at certain landmarks now. This tour hit all of the major must see sites in Salem. April also had a fun/quirky approach that made it easy to digest a lot of the history and information she was giving us. She would stop at certain points and quiz us on what we may or may not know. She also gave us the opportunity to stop and take pictures, which was appreciated. This was our first tour throughout Salem and this did not disappoint to say the least! You definitely get the money’s worth getting the opportunity to learn enriched information about such a special place that Salem is. At the end of the tour April was so kind to also give recommendations on what to do in Salem, where to shop, eat, etc. If you’re looking for a tour to go on in Salem I would HIGHLY recommend booking this tour!

Dawn did such an fascinating job with our tour. It was very busy the time of our tour but she did an amazing time keeping all of us together, not losing anybody, and speaking to where we all could hear. She answered any questions we had and she had a very exciting way to sharing information about Salem. You can tell she really loves her job and I am happy I got to experience This tour with somebody like her. I highly recommend this tour as you get to learn a lot about Salem past and the history of some of its oldest building.

Our guide was shawn and he is soooooooooooo good! Funny, theatrical, so knowledgeable and with an accent so easy to understand for the french person!
A loud voice, well spoken and witty, he’s quick on improvise on any situation! Even when the lantern broke during the during the tour! And he throw it in the recycle bin!! Ahahah
My eleven years okd find the tour a little bit freaky as Shawn explain the gost story near Abigael’s house…
With this tour, I have discover a soooooo nice city with is buildings, bricks roads and charming flowers. For sure we will be on Chestnut tomorow for pictures!
Thank you for everything!
Can be fun to know in advance the schedule of the guides for the tours so we can choose the one we want according to the critics we read.
Also, it can be good to have a parking ticket include in our price and a warning that coming here by car is hard time in the city.
Recommand rhis tour to everybody who want to discover a sweet city!!
Your costume is awsome! Need to have an other lantern to complete it!

Vanessa was our tour guide and she was wonderful. There were 5 of us in our group, two moms and 3 children ( 12 y/o, 4 y/o & 3 y/o). Others had smaller children in strollers. I would consider it a family-friendly tour. We booked the 8 AM tour which we would do again due to securing our parking for the rest of the day and the ability to see certain sites within the tour due to no/little crowds. The tour is entirely outdoors so you have a lot of room to socially distance yourselves. There was a bit of walking but nothing uncomfortable. Vanessa's overview of the Salem's History and the witch hysteria was detailed and she provided wonderful viewpoints and some unknown tidbits that had us researching on our own soon after the tour was over. Vanessa was wonderful, patient, and answered any questions we had, and asked the group questions creating a more engaging experience.

These walking tours are informative I guess (nothing you couldn’t google) but you don’t actually enter the things you walk to. Everything is a separate admission. I’d rather use the money to enter the actual attraction and learn about it from the experts inside.

The group was HUGE. Difficult to keep up at times, when walking through busy areas. The tour guide used a mic but wasn’t allowed to in certain areas and we couldn’t hear well when she didn’t.

The tour started at 5:30, it was so dark the 2nd half of the tour we couldn’t see what she was showing us. I’d recommend going earlier in the day.

Hey there, did you read the description before you purchase a ticket? We put in capital letters that you do not enter the inside of any building. Again, we put very clearly that you do not enter the inside of any building.

Jeremiah/ Kevin was a very kind and considerate guide. He would take his time and explain so much about this history and was fairly knowledgeable about the town and surrounding area. I would highly recommend this tour for those who are just experiencing Salem for the first time, while this was my second time coming to Salem In would have very much enjoyed it during the first time as well. It also is good that the walking tour groups for this subsidiary of "Witch City Walking Tours" has a visual guide so you can actually see what they mean when they talk about certain historical facts would recommend 5/5.

We had a blast on this tour! Our tour guide April was personable, knowledgeable, and fun. You can tell that she is very passionate about the history of Salem and wants to share that with others. She kept us all entertained for the solid 2 hours and prioritized safety when crossing through busy parts of town. We had no trouble hearing or following the information. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn more about the history of Salem. This was not a spooky tour, so if you are looking for something a bit scarier you may want to check out Witch City's Murders and Mysteries Tour.

When you come to Salem, seeing people enjoying themselves—wearing witch hats, dressing up, etc.—it’s so normal that it is expected. It’s wonderful fun.

That is unless your taking this tour. Did you know that it is entirely possible to both enjoy the rich and wonderful history of Salem while also embracing its current, aforementioned state? Well, not according to Witch City tours. Our tour guide decided it would be a valuable use of time to tell patrons, all of whom paying good money for a tour, and most of whom were wearing delightful witch hats, that the current state of Salem has been ruined by tourists. Honestly, it’s an interesting/hot take, albeit an ironic one to share to a group of tourists taking a tour. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Our tour guide consistently punched down to her guests, reassuring them their fun in Salem is at the expense of her heritage and the dignity of the town.

All of this was realized by my wife and I as we listened to our tour guide awkwardly BEG everyone in the group to leave a 5-star review on this site.

Hear me out—I have a novel idea. Instead of groveling for 5-star reviews, the company instead gives 5-star tours? Additionally, it might be a viable business model to, after requesting such reviews, not badger the demographic of tourists that help keep the town thriving.

Side note: While not working for the company, the guy dressed as IT on Essex is the coolest and most professional person in Salem.
