- juliemP2402LZ0 contributionsHistory with a creepy twistOur guide Kelly was an amazing story teller. It was a nice boat ride and definitely had a creepy vibe. If you like real ghost stories and history you will love this.Written October 18, 2024
- wendylW3850ZG0 contributionsNice boat rideWhat a beautiful experience to see Waterfire from a different vantage point. And, the amount of time was perfect; not too long and not too short. We had a wonderful time!Written October 6, 2024
- sj0rtiz0 contributionsGreat River CruiseGreat experience! Highly recommended to do this when it is offered. Happen to be in Rhode Island at the right time to experience a great river cruise.Written October 5, 2024
- Trip645360 contributionsRain Couldn't Stop HospitalityThe Boat Ride was a beautiful experience and I'm thankful we were able to get a ride along the river. The best thing about the boat ride was the staff - everyone was accommodating, especially considering it was raining and a miserable evening. Make this ride a part of your RI adventures.Written September 26, 2024
- tarav4040 contributionsMy first time in Rhode IslandThe staff at Providence Waterford boat ride were so friendly and professional. I went on a rainy day and that didn’t stop the tour. They wiped the seats for us and tried to make us as comfortable as possible. The actual tour was beautiful and romantic. Be sure to walk with a camera to take lots of pictures. Only complaint is I wish it was longer. Great Tour!!!!Written September 24, 2024
- 506anthonyi0 contributions10/10 would recommendWonderful moment drifting on the water through a pretty phenomenal atmosphere. The light and the heat were impressive. Throngs of folks lined the banks just hanging out. Seemed really friendly. Staff on the boat ride were wonderfully kind.Written September 2, 2024
- andreavE1445GY0 contributionsNo access for wheelchairs or strollers.I was planning on taking a niece, who is wheelchair bound, on this boat ride. But there is no wheelchair accessibility. So she won't be able to go on this with the rest of the family. More than ever, in this time frame, people who are differently able should be able to do most things.Written August 29, 2024
- R2810EVnancys0 contributionsA great evening on the waterThis was a very enjoyable experience with a beautiful night of great weather. We enjoyed being in one of the first boats and watching the full lighting as we moved down the river. The boat ride was a very pleasant way to see the fires without dealing with the crowds. It was also fun to see the Red Bull surfing event. The boat was very well maintained and staff were well organized. I also liked the recommendations on parking and what to wear and bring. A really fun trip.Written August 18, 2024
- tghw9270 contributionsPeaceful ride viewing a lovely art instillationThis was a very neat experience and I’m glad we did it. It’s a beautiful art installation seeing the fire on the water and the serene music playing. We happened to be in town for a full lighting and really had no idea what to expect. My 16 year old was completely bored after a few minutes because you really are just looking at the exact same thing (fire pits on water) the entire time. If you have some extra time I would say take the boat ride. You get to see the entire thing without fighting the massive crowds of people. (It was a little odd to us that people were just sitting for hours watching fire?!) You probably won’t encounter anything like it anywhere else.Written August 18, 2024
- michellewJ227JV0 contributionsFriendly staff but not a great cruiseThe captain and his cruise coworker were awesome and gave us some interesting historical facts and served great wine but the cruise was not what I expected. It was very short (distance-wise) so I didn't get to see much of the city.Written August 3, 2024
- Q288GTtheresat0 contributionsBeautiful, serene ride! Highly recommended! It was the first time my boyfriend and I visited Providence, RI. A friend who used to live in RI told us about Waterfire, and we happen to be going on 7/4, the day when there was the boat ride. We are so glad we went! Really enjoyed the beautiful, serene ride. We were amazing how many people came to see the full lighting and they all seemed so content just looking at the fire! Kristen was very helpful after I booked the ride - I booked it via TripAdvisor for 8:25 and TripAdvisor sent me a voucher for that time. Then I got an email from Kristen telling me that the 8:25 was booked and asked if I’d like the next one, 9:15. I said sure and she confirmed. But I was confused since I did not get an updated voucher for the new time, she told me that they don’t give out vouchers, to just use my last name when I show up. That was a little confusing but Kristen reassured me that they have me down for 9:15. She was very helpful and patient with me. The other young lady when checked us in, Olivia was very friendly. I told her that she looks like Judge Judy’s granddaughter, Sarah Rose. I hope she had a chance to look up her pic. They have the same demeanor when they talk as well.Written July 6, 2024
- TeddyB3140 contributionsGreat operation! Great cocktail cruise.Great operation! Beautiful place downtown to check-in and get some great local goods and ice cream before your trip. Met Capt. Keith and Capt. Tom on the dock for roll call and we loaded up quick. Great cocktail cruise down the river chatting with people from all over. As a local, it was cool to hear where different people are from and seeing what they are doing here. Capt. Tom kept all of our glasses full with some great commentary of the local area (we are going to book the narrated tour and get some more history). Capt. Keith captained the boat great through the tight waterways with gondola’s all over.Written July 6, 2024

- 1010simone0 contributionsPerfect hour in ProvidenceThought this would be something different to do on Father’s Day- there were 12 of us, 3 are fathers. I’m definitely biased because I love all things Providence, but everyone enjoyed it and they were pleasantly surprised. The guide was great (Tom I think, I have terrible name recall) and the weather was picture perfect. Already booked for fireworks on July 2, I will definitely book again.Written June 18, 2024
- BCNFan250 contributionsExcellent ExperienceThese trips are a great way for people who already live in Rhode Island or are visiting for the first time, to get to know our wonderful capital city of Providence and everything we have to offer. Captain Tom is a WONDERFUL guide and they offer something for everyone.Written June 17, 2024

Our tour of the sunken ships and docks of Green Jacket Shoal with marine archaeologist David Robinson was wonderful. It was interesting and so informative. Providence is a beautiful city and a great perspective from the water too. Captain Tom narrated the first half of the tour and was able to surprise us locals with facts we never knew about Providence and the river. We have already signed up for the sunset cruise next week. We highly recommend touring with the Providence Riverboat company.

My husband and I booked this tour while we were in Newport on our “mini moon” From start to finish, the customer service was excellent. Our requested time was booked, so the woman in the office called and made arrangements for us and even told us to call her in case we couldn’t make the timeframe, for the earlier boat. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the captain and given the option to grab a drink from a nearby restaurant. Throughout the tour, Captain Pete was informative, entertaining, and personable. It was clear that he enjoyed sharing the history of Providence and took pride in his city. We would like to thank both the captain and the company for such an awesome experience.

Thanks for the awesome review guys! I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Captain Peter, (we think he's pretty entertaining too) and I was totally impressed at how quickly you made it to the boat from Newport (without even calling for directions!)
Congratulations once again, we hope you enjoyed your "mini moon" in RI and really appreciate your business! Best of luck and hope to see you back in PVD for a future anniversary trip!

This was a very nice and informative boat tour! A great way to get your bearings of downtown, the harbor and hear about the interesting and varied history of the city. Great architecture. Our tour guide was an engaging, enthusiastic speaker, and sprinkled in some humor. I highly recommend this delightful excursion! (A word of advice – definitely make sure you get there 15 minutes before the boat leaves because it departs ON TIME.)

During Waterfire, we decided to take an impromptu ride on the Providence RiverBoat. Our host was extremely accommodating in her ability to fit us in to an upcoming ride, and I was able to enjoy it with my guest and her two young children that came to visit the city for the weekend. I would highly recommend taking a trip on the boat, and will likely return to do this during the daytime, so that I can hear some of the explanations of architecture and historic sites along the Providence River

The narrated boat tour by Providence River Boat Company is a relaxing and sress free manner in which to learn historical facts of the city. Tom, the guide and Captain, is very knowledgeable of the city and it's history. The 50 minute tour up and down the river provided a breath of fresh air from the oppressive heat on the mainland. I highly recommend this tour to gain an appreciation of the sights from the advantage point the water offers.

We began our Rhode Island vacation with this narrated boat tour. If you go, allow time to eat either before of after at the cute little bar next to the boat dock; we ate beforehand and were disappointed to find this place later. The tour was very informative and gave us a nice overview of the city of Providence and it's history. It's a good way to spend less than an hour at a good price.

Thanks for the wonderful review Lisa! We all just ate at the bar next door after work last night (that rarely happens, we're usually too beat!) and we had a great time, glad you enjoyed it too. We appreciate your business, thanks so much, hope the rest of your vacation here in RI is just as great!

Boat was comfortable on a sunny October morning (no heavy jacket required). Captain Tom told us of all safety devices onboard and the rules to make our river cruise safe. He was timely, a good speaker (easy to hear), and very knowledgeable about Providence plus the history of the rivers. We appreciated his lunch suggestion of Hemminways. Most delicious Stuffy!

Captain Peter was an excellent tour guide! He was funny, friendly, and knowledgeable. The boat itself seats about 16 so it was not over crowded and we could hear him well. Having been in the area a long time he was very familiar with the history and had a lot of interesting anecdotes. Was a great intro to Providence and its history!

Fantastic tour! Captain Tom did an excellent job narrating the boat ride and threw in a number of interesting facts about the surrounding architecture. A lot was packed into the tour time, making it worth every penny. Tons of great views of the skyline and harbor.
Worth noting that the tour typically runs closer to 60 minutes, as opposed to the 50 minutes listed on the website, so don't schedule anything too tightly after the tour.

This was the first thing I did when I arrived in Providence and Captain Peter's tour was an amazing way to be welcomed to Providence! He was so knowledgeable and informative and I found myself remembering interesting points he shared all throughout my three-day stay. The meeting point was easy to find and I highly recommend you enjoy an ice cream at the Creamery before the boat ride! The tour itself was relaxing and enjoyable and a perfect introduction to the city. Booking my reservation was so easy and I appreciated the comprehensive follow up reminder emails. Thank you to Captain Peter and everyone at Providence River Boat Company for such an enjoyable afternoon!

It Has a ramp down to the boat but you have to step down a couple of steps to get into the boat itself. it was a very smooth ride once aboard.

It states that the boat is not wheelchair accessible, but looks like a pontoon boat. Are there stairs down to the boat? Just wondering how inaccessible it is. thanks
Written September 10, 2019
Its a rather narrow and steep access to the dock. Not fully or independently accessible but with some creativity I'm sure it can be accomplished.

Hi, I’d like to book a tour for August 25th but I’m not sure how to book a tour for a specific time slot. And are there any active promo codes? Thanks! Natalie
Written August 19, 2019
Hi, is the boat accessible for seniors and is there cover from direct sun?
Written July 29, 2019
There is no cover. However, umbrellas are available, which we did use when it lightly rained on us.
This is accessible for most people. There is a short walk where the surface is floating, so reasonable balance is a must. You also have to step down into the boat. Our guide offered a hand to every passenger to do so.

Hello, How long is the tour and is there any steps to get into or out of the boat? My mother will have a wheelchair but can walk ... she just cannot do stairs.
Written April 30, 2019
The tour is 50 minutes long. Patrons have to navigate down a ramp from the street level to the water level, and then step over a side rail onto the boat step. Unfortunately, our style boats are not wheelchair accessible. Please call me if you have any further questions! Thank you, Kristin 401-580-2628
