    Escape the Turquoise Museum
We had a great time participating in the "Escape the Turquoise Museum" . It was fun trying to find the clues and leaning about Turquoise. Would highly recommend it.

Extensive Collection and Knowledge of Turquoise
I would recommend this museum to anyone who is interested in all things turquoise - history, geology, viewing beautiful turquoise stones and jewelry. Alternative/non-genuine stones are a part of the collection, too, giving the viewer information about identifying the real natural turquoise stone. This museum houses a unique and vast collection from all over the world.

    Exceptional Museum Experience
Loved the rich history and the array of turquoise displayed from locations around the world. Several generations of experiences, collections and stories are well-laid out in exhibits through many rooms and floors. The owners made frequent rounds and generously answered every one of our questions! There was just so much to see and learn, and the interactive exhibits were really great, as well.

    Great find
I was visiting family in Albuquerque, who didn’t even know this museum existed. I actually went there because of an atlas obscure ad. It was an amazing find and so much more in-depth than I thought it would be. I actually plan on returning my next trip to spend some more time there. I would recommend it to anybody.

Beautiful and I learned a lot
The dad and his son from the family that own the museum were there to answer questions, and it was clear how much they loved it and how passionate they were about the subject. I learned a lot and the museum itself is just beautiful, not only the stones themselves but the antique furniture they’ve acquired on which to display it.

Turquoise Museum Visit in January 2024
Very informative and interesting. An almost overwhelming amount of information to assimilate, so, one has to mentally filter how much of what is presented in such a way that it enhances their personal interests and ability to process it. We visited during a lightly attended time slot enabling us to directly interact with the curator of the museum and that was a terrific and unexpected bonus. His personal knowledge is forged from years of an active, direct participation in both the global turquoise market and the global mining sides of the industry; he is a wealth of information!. BTW, the "castle" is an impeccably maintained and pleasing aspect of the visit. We highly recommend visiting.

    Beautiful Museum
We learned so much during this visit. It is a quite organized museum that includes beautiful rock collection. Everyone is super friendly. The gift shop is selling some beautiful jewels with certificates.

    Unique Gallery of Turquoise
Set in an unlikely castle in downtown Albuqueque, this amazing gallery of turquoise will fascinate the geologist, jeweler, the curious and learners of any age. I enjoyed seeing how cultures around the world have used turquoise, comparing stones from many mines and learning about synthetic processes. There are hands-on activities for kids and adults. The staff was easy to engage and shared their knowledge. The museum was an unexpected surprise so I will be recommending the gallery as a must-see while in Albuquerque.

Seeing Turquoise from all the famous mines
The museum was the highlight of our trip to Albequerque. Seeing Turquoise from all the famous mines and what top quality turquoise looks like was fantastic. I especially enjoyed learning how turquoise attributes can be used to grade Turquoise. It was also interesting seeing the scientific tidbits about one of the worlds top gem stones.Loved the display on what "Hat Mines" are, their locations, discriptions and specimens.

    The Turquoise Story
There is a lot more to the story of turquoise than one would think. They have 14 galleries all devoted to a different aspect of Turquoise. The museum is very educational and they have an unbelievable collection of things made from turquoise and turquoise stones and ore. Well worth the price of admission.

Fabulous!! Everything you want to know about turquoise is here and the information is authentic and extensive. This family has a 5 generation history in turquoise and is known the world over. The owner has written an amazing book and a catalog showing the different grades of turquoise from many different mines. They both really should be purchased by anyone serious about turquoise knowledge. This is my 3rd trip to this museum, the first time in it's original location 20 years ago, and it keeps getting more interesting. I never knew so many types of turquoise existed, and neither will you because most people haven't heard of them. I would recommend coming here first before you go out turquoise jewelry shopping. This will give you the foundation you need, and I recommend reading the valuable information. It's fascinating! Between 2 visits, I think it took me approx 6 hours to read and look around, and I didn't finish. Enjoy!

Fascinating museum with turquoise from around the world. Joe Dan, the owner was a gracious host and is wonderful person. Just say “Hello” and you will hear great stories about his family and the collection. There is so much attention paid to ensuring your tour of the museum (ours was self-guided) is a great experience. Short videos and placards that are designed to educate and entertain the visitors are strategically placed throughout the museum. There is so much to see and learn about that you could easily spend several hours there. I am very grateful we decided to add the museum to our itinerary. If you miss this one, you will truly miss one of Albuquerque’s greatest treasures.

if you like looking at pieces of turquoise and various ways to use it, then you'll like this museum. I was more interested in the Castle and its history, and was very disappointed. Museum staff either knew nothing of Gertrude Zachary, or wouldn't 'talk'. Isn't her story a part of Albuquerque? Also, the overhead music was very annoying and did not fit with the displays or the environment.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Since our founding in 1993 we have worked very hard on our displays to "Showcase The World's Most Colorful Gem". We are glad you enjoyed the displays. I'm sorry we don't display the information you were looking for, The castle was built in 2008 for Gertrude Schmidt, We are working on a guided tour on the castle architecture. The building that holds our gift shop and cafe has a really cool history, it was built in the late 1800's and has been a blacksmith shop, a buggy show, an art supply store, several artists' studios (Including R.C. Gorman's), an antique store, a building supply store; and we are still doing research on what other uses it had.

My mother and I were very excited to go inside this building. The staff were unwilling to talk about the building due to a "family dispute." Much of the building is not accessible to the public and the windows are covered by thick drapes. Disappointing, Definitely not worth the price.

Although we didn't sign up for the guided tour, we ended up getting all sorts of adjunct info from the director who was on site. Every aspect was REALLY interesting !
The exhibits are set in an almost out of movie set style building, rather incongrous in slap dab the middle of Albuquerque, but there you go. It's perfect to showcase all the beautiful turquoise artefacts. There is everything you need to know in this museum about the gemstone, and plenty more, each exhibit clearly labelled and well lit.
It really is a lovely place to spend at least 2 hours and come away elucidated and well-informed.

I was the only visitor on a mid-week afternoon and I was treated to a chat with the current curator and member of the family that owns this outstanding collection of specimens and information about turquoise. The info and specimens are well curated and extremely informative. It's a unique collection and I highly recommend spending the hour it takes to explore it.

This place is strange. We were booked for a specific time and date to tour the museum. We were given wristbands to tour, which seemed unnecessary. We then had to watch a video telling us how to appreciate the museum and each of its rooms, all under the watchful eye of one of the employees. This all gave off a control freak vibe. The museum itself was not super interesting. I think this place is for people really interested in turquoise, so probably not the best fit for casual tourists.

Really enjoyed seeing the new location of the Turquoise Museum- so well laid out in smaller themed areas rather than in one big room. The initial video of "Turquoise 101" was extremely helpful in understanding what we were seeing the museum, and the QR code videos throughout the museum were also very informative. We liked the timed group openings so that we could see the museum with just a few other guests, and we especially enjoyed chatting with Jo Dan, the owner, and hearing a lot of his stories about turquoise experiences. The exhibits were well laid out, and we learned some things. In all, a very worthwhile visit to a very unique place.

Several family members (from Santa Fe, Albq, and Dallas) visited the museum today. What an unexpected “gem” of an experience for all of us! You are met by the owner family and oriented how to enjoy, feel, and learn from the museum of collectibles from turquoise, chandeliers, and beautiful antiques from around the world. You end up feeling a bit transcended by the light of the turquoise chandelier and stories behind the collection. It’s a museum like no other! We will be back with other friends and family because you end up feeling a part of something special that you just have to experience again.

This was a highlight of our trip to Albuquerque. We enjoyed the museum. We were one of two families in the museum, so the owners son was kind enough to give us a personal tour. We learned so much about Turquoise and how to decipher the quality. Very informative and their collection is amazing. They say it is the largest in the world. They have at least one sample of Turquoise from every part of the world. I would count over 200 chandeliers also!
