Accommodating and Off the Beaten Track
I inadvertently booked this tour for the next day and they accommodated a change. The guided tour offers some insight into the rain forest vegetation, glacial geology, area history and takes you to a vantage point that others are unable to visit.

    Franz Josef Glacier
I visited Franz Josef with friends and we found this tour after a quick Google. It sounded right up our street so we signed up. The tour starts after a short bus ride out to the Glacier park. Our tour guide David was new to the company but very knowledgeable about the local area, the flora and fauna, and the history of the Glacier. Cliff, the owner of the company, also came along and brought his young son who was a real highlight - it's great to see a child so into nature! Our group was mixed in ages and i think parts of the tour might have been challenging for the older group members, e.g. some off-track terrain was steep or slippy underfoot. The tour took about 3 hours start to finish. Overall we had a great afternoon and learned so much about Franz Josef. Thanks Cliff and David!

A must-do in Franz Josef Glacier
My husband and I really enjoyed our tour with Cliff and David. They both made the tour extremely informative and interesting, with great anecdotes and stories. We felt particularly lucky to be able to go off-track with them and have a sublime view of the glacier only for ourselves. We made the tour while it was raining and it was not a problem at all as they provided us with warm clothes. Highly recommended! Ariane and Marcelo

    Great guide, great experience!
My son loved the walk through the bush and the river crossing. We got wet, but so much fun. The guide was very knowledgeable and interacted well with the kids. The home made cookies were a great touch too.

    Great experience with personal touches
Had a lovely, basically private, tour of the glacier and nearby area with Cliff, who was friendly, personable and very knowledgable about the area. Great to get a perspective of not just the glacier as it is now, but how it changed over the years and also the surrounding flora and fauna.

Lucky to have a private tour with just the two of us. Our guide Cliff was knowledgeable, passionate, entertaining and definitely made our experience more enjoyable. We were able to see the glacier and surrounds through his eyes and understand what we were looking at and the need to protect the natural environment. The 3 hours went very quickly and we savored the isolated stop for a cuppa beside the glacier.

Afternoon in Okarito: the perfect Part 2 to our Franz Josef Glacier Visit
After walking up to the Glacier in the morning our guide Cliff took us to Okarito. We visited the dock on the lake to learn a little history of the area and then proceeded to climb to a beautiful view spot above the lake for a well-earned hot chocolate and home baked brownie. On a clear day, you have a stunning view of the southern Alps - but on our day the cloud did not clear. Nonetheless, the 360 degree view was beautiful taking in the Tasman Sea to the lake and beyond. The plant and bird life were a delight. We finished with a sunset viewing on the beach.

Marvelous Day in Glacier Country - Part 1
The walk to Franz Josef Glacier with our guide Cliff took us off the beaten track along the way and to a lunch spot with a special view of the Glacier that we would not have known about without our Guide's expert knowledge. We were able to walk at out own pace, with lots of stops to observe interesting native plants and learn about the formation and recent history of the area. A truly lovely day!
