About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- elaineaf20240 contributionsSO MUCH FUNThis was so much fun! Our guide (Bryan, aka the Cajun Cowboy aka THE BEST IN THE WEST) has only been in Arizona for about a month. However in the short amount of time he’s been here he already knows so much about the trail, area and horses! He’s very experienced and was very nice to talk to. The tour was BEAUTIFUL the horses are great. All around 10/10 recommend!!!Written January 8, 2024
- Q6650TTdanielc0 contributionsReally great! We took an 8am. We were the only people in that time slot and it was EXCELLENT. Tour guide (cowboy) was really helpful and a great guide to the area. We saw bison and even a giraffe at the safari park next door. Highly recommend!Written April 12, 2023
- 809magdalenar0 contributionsPositive experienceIt was our 10y old bday wish. Great service. The ride was super easy and not challenging. If it is your first time on the horse it is a good way to start.Written July 26, 2022
- 1horselover0 contributionsDesert views are greatIf you love horses and riding, you will enjoy this ride. The horses were well trained, and my group did have a good time. The "ranch" is a bit run down and needs some TLC. Horses could certainly have better care but in general, it was ok.Written February 6, 2022
- kaydeesmythe0 contributionsGood for children- maybeThe horses were filthy and tired. We rode nose to butt through a dusty field beside a highway. The scenery was not pretty. I wasn’t looking for a riding lesson or to gallop but this was a dud of an experience .Written April 11, 2021
- Jimmyrugby0 contributionsNice relaxing trail rideMy family and I had a nice time. The ride is good for young children and beginners. Our kids loved their horses. Staff is top notch. They do animal rescue work which impressed us. There are a lot of animals for children to pet as well.Written April 10, 2021
- Josie42740 contributionsHighly recommend!John, our guide was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. His horses Blue Jean, Crocodile Dundee, and Pepe long-stocking we’re very well behaved horses. My children (13,6) and I have zero experience with horses, which was worry some, but my fears were quickly put to rest with how calm John and his horses were. We did the evening 6:30 time slot for the sunset, which was a good idea as the weather was cool and breezy. Beautiful experience we will remember for a lifetime.Written August 1, 2020
- shelleyy39200 contributionsA corral at the Wild Western Horseback rides. We had a great time with our guide John and his dog lady bug today. We were able to see may of the animals in the out of Africa zoo on our ride and the views were so beautiful.Written March 2, 2020
- Sharon W0 contributionsYOU MUST HORSEBACK RIDE WHILE IN ARIZONAWe set out on an hour ride with Alex as our guide. The trail goes through a property bordering the Out of Africa Wildlife Park. We saw a giraffe and tigers from a distance so that was cool. I’m usually not a fan of animals in captivity but Alex explained to us it was a sanctuary for rescue wildlife which made us feel better. The horses were calm and programmed to follow the lead. Don’t expect to run at all as it is a calm ride with beautiful scenery. Alex was a great guide with the cowboy demeanor you would expect from a dude ranch kind of guy. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I am an experienced rider but there were 4 other people in our group who had never been on a horse before and did just fine. I wanted to ride while in Arizona and this was just perfect for me. I didn’t know the other folk but they clearly had fun as well. I would recommend the ride for all ages. It was perfect weather, but wear your sunscreen and bring water.Written March 1, 2020
- Debcy0 contributionsBeautifulI loved the views and the kindness of our guide. It is family own which I think is amazing, the horses were gentle giants and listened to the directions we wanted. We saw different animals that they own and on the view we saw the safari park that is next to them and we saw animals from there(zebra, lion etc). Jacob, our guide was very knowledgeable and fun, he took pictures of me and my husband and had a lot of patience as it was my first time riding. I recommend a day off and an adventure there.Written January 26, 2020
- Z3925YRdanielles0 contributionsThe perfect family outing!!!!Everyone at wild western horseback adventures is amazing! My seven year old daughter absolutely loved her experience!!! I would reccomend booking a ride with them to anyone, whether it is a family adventure or a romantic ride with your significant other!!!!Written January 2, 2020
- 92brinaa0 contributionsPerfect proposal! We loved our experience here!! My boyfriend (now fiancée) proposed during the middle of our ride and the guides were great about it. He called ahead of time and they sent us with two guides instead of one to make it happen! We stopped at a scenic spot and the guides orchestrated it so that we would be off our horses and he could propose. The ride was scenic and private, couldn’t have asked for a better experience!Written December 14, 2019
- Britchot0 contributionsWonderful guidesMy girlfriend treated me to an hour and a half ride. We were greeted by one of our two brother guides, Jacob, who got us signed in and briefed. Had some good interaction with a couple other hands that got us saddled up and on our way. Jacob’s conversation was consistent and genuine. The other guide, Julian, was quite attentive bringing up the rear. The whole time was very casual and enjoyable, my only regret was that it was so short. Great time had my myself and my girlfriend.Written November 30, 2019
- 187adenf0 contributionsJacob and JulianJacob and Julian where magnificent!!! We had a wonderful time on our trail ride, we got to see the boys feed a Giant Texas long horn and got to see lots of Africa’s animals like lions, tigers, zebras, gazelles, and much more!! Definitely recommend it!!!!Written November 30, 2019
- TimS21260 contributionsFantastic time! INCREDIBLE FAMILY OWNED AND RUN! GO!First off, how cool was it to meet the owner and his kids (6 of his 8, 7 boys!). Three boys gave us the 1.5 hour tour through the shrubby desert....Jacob, Julian and Jesse brought up the rear. We meandered through the tumbleweeds and hilly terrain passing long-forgotten bones of cattle. We saw some of the animals from the nearby Out of Africa nature preserve (gazelles, giraffe) on our way and some of the family's steer, including the prized Texas Longhorn himself, Black Mambo. The horses were well-trained making this an easy time for kids of any age! To be honest, the best part for us was having the three boys as guides....14 year old twins and one who was 9. They were polite, professional, patient, courteous and better than many adult guides on tours we have experienced elsewhere...in the US and abroad! Their parents must be so proud of them and it's great to see such a functional, kind, and clearly close-knit family working together. Hat's off to them and the tour. DO NOT HESITATE TO GO! :) Tim, Santiago and Emma (Atlanta)Written November 28, 2019

Our ride was really not too scenic. Also, our guides were very young and one young man really was more focused on trying to do tricks with his horse and talked about how he loved to bull ride than he was focused on the trail ride. We had 7 riders in our group. The guide leading the pack had a soft voice so we could not hear anything she said during the ride. Our ride was suppose to be 90 minutes, when we arrived to the corral after 60 minutes, I told them we paid for a 90 minute ride, so then we turned around and went back to some of the areas we had just covered, One of our riders could not make the Arizona trip because of a medical emergency. I emailed the company about him not being able to make it and I never got a response back. Attention to communication and detail is not a point of emphasis with this group. I have been on many horse rides on vacations as it is something I like to do. I would have to rate this one near the bottom. It has lots of potential but has ways to go before I would highly recommend it.

The staff was nice & helpful, but the tour itself was not worth the money. The scenic horseback adventure is just a trail that goes near/under a highway and looks at the back of the Out of Africa facilities. We did the hour and a half sunset tour, and nothing about it was scenic/interesting. For the last 30 minutes of our tour, they took us to look at behind the scenes of the ranch, which is basically just a bunch of chain link fences, noisy cars on the highway next to you, & cows. Also, the staff is not very covid cautious (none of them wear masks - even when they're inside the office filling our paperwork with you). Overall, it's a cool experience getting to ride a horse, but the tour itself is not the best.

Thank you for your review and although we always hope for a 5 star, we know there is always going to be someone that doesn't appreciate the experience. We always take proper Covid restrictions and this was brought up in a company meeting and the wranglers could not think of one time that a mask wasn't worn. Our tour does cross under a freeway but many others find it very enjoyable and scenic. Have a great day.

This activity was recommended to us by our guide on a different winery tour.
We booked thru TripAdvisor/Viator on a Saturday for a Monday ride. The meeting location is easy to find at the end of a road on the Alcantara Winery property. Just follow the signs once you arrive on the property. You can use the restrooms at the winery before/after your ride if you aren’t a fan of outhouses. Don’t feel weird about it…the restrooms at the winery are just to the right of the front door. No need to even enter the winery. The outhouse at the corral is literally an outhouse ;)
I used the outhouse, I didn’t die.
There were 6 guests, 2 guides, and one cute little trail doggy on our tour. The horses are well cared for, the guides were friendly, helpful, and careful to choose the right horse for the right rider.
Due to excessive amounts of rain, snow, and flooding in the mountains, the river was impassable. The guide tried and tried to find a way across, but the water was too deep & swift. Safety first, you know! We did ride through the water in a few spots, which was fun for the riders and the horses! We got to ride all over the winery, seeing some spectacular views! The pics attached to this review don’t do justice to the actual views of the valley from the top of the property.
We had a really fun time. The trail horses basically follow each other with very little control needed by the rider. We had a few attempts at horses passing each other, we did a tiny bit of trotting, it was an easy ride.
We will do this again next time we are in the area. We went on a ride at Dead Horse Ranch a few years ago, I liked this ride better.
The winery is beautiful and has tasty food & excellent wine, by the way…..be sure to plan to spend some time there, too.
15/10. :)

We did the 1.5 hour sunset ride and words can’t express how amazing the whole experience was. The views are spectacular, the people that run it are so kind and gentle with the animals, it’s obvious they are passionate about what they do. They know every detailed story of every rescue, they told each rider the story behind their name. If we can fit it into our schedule before we leave, we’ll go again. We’d highly recommend them!!

My wife and I were to go on a moonlight ride, but early monsoons prevented that. Wild Western Horseback Adventures was quick to call me back and set up a new time on another day. The trail guide was amazing. He led us through the Verde River and a variety of scenery. He was sensitive to my wife's needs (her knees are problematic) by providing a ramp to mount the horse on. Yet they allowed us to enjoy galloping the horses when we showed interest and experience. He also explained the history of the area, and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset. We finished the ride by going through the Alcantera Vineyards. We would highly recommend Wild Western Horseback Adventures for your next horseback adventure for any family.

Everyone in our group had an awesome experience. We planned this adventure for my birthday weekend and it was a memorable experience that we all enjoyed. The wranglers were very helpful and took care to answer all questions. We all felt safe even a 5 year old and two teenagers who had never been on a horse before. Highly recommend doing a tour.

I loved that this was a non-stressful, non-fearful experience from beginning to end. We had a wonderful ride through the scenic acres while our leader told us interesting history stories about the people and town. The cowboys were professional and made sure that every member of our group was having a good experience. Riding a horse is therapeutic and I loved every minute!

We had the absolute best time on this horse trail. Kevin had us laughing the entire time, and really made us feel comfortable and safe. My 9 year old daughter lead our group with Kevin and she said she wishes we could go back every day. Cannot recommend this experience highly enough - absolutely the highlight of our Sedona trip.

It’s been many years since either my wife or I have ridden horseback. It was so cool and relaxing to do it again. Their little dog followed us along which was cute. Our guide, Alex, was awesome and made sure we were comfortable and having a good time. They give you helmets to wear if you want which I thought was a great idea. The scenery was nice and our guide kept the conversation going. We really liked hearing about everything he talked about and we would highly recommend anyone to go out there and take a ride yourself!

The concierge at the Sedona Real Inn booked an hour ride for us, and the people at Wild Western couldn’t have been nicer.
Our ride was delayed about an hour due to the earlier group getting a late start. We were encouraged to walk the grounds and see the horses, cows, llamas, etc.
The ride was enjoyable, though the scenery was Arizona basic. I nearly fell off the saddle while going down a small hill but John was there to help.
Jesus, John, Jada & Co. appear to be working hard to make the experience a good one.
