About
This Galician region, known as Ribeira Sacra since the s. XII, is located in the south of the province of Lugo and north of Ourense, in the center of Galicia, around the courses of Miño and Sil. The area is dotted with Cistercian monasteries hidden among forests on both banks of the rivers, as well as wineries, fortresses, medieval bridges or abandoned villages, such as Belesar, visible only with the decrease in river flow.
Wine zone with D.O. Ribeira Sacra, the main grape we can taste is Mencia, but also Godello, grown on terraces next to Miño and Sil, among the spectacular canyons that form the rivers.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Tipptravelguy0 contributionsAmazing Beach excursion. Don’t miss it!Denis was a wonderful host and we enjoyed our time at Playa De Las Catedrales. We were amazed at the rock formations and hidden caves Denis pointed out and took us through. He made our excursion so much better. Can’t wait to bring the whole family back here to explore this beach and the surrounding area.Written October 7, 2024
- Jean P0 contributionsGreat tour! This tour was exactly what I was hoping for. Knowledgeable, friendly guide, loads of information about history, architecture, easy and relaxed pace, lots of enthusiasm for subject matter. While I arrived in Lugo prior day and walked about, including visit to Cathedrlal, the tour brought understanding and context that was missing in my wanderings. Got great suggestions for other places to visit. I was lucky to be the only person on the tour and go up on balcony of cathedral! Thanks Lucia!Written November 6, 2023
- AlexF9390 contributionsNice geological formations. But, we only had about 45 minutes before water started to come back! We did followed tidal tables to ensure to arrive before the lowest ones. At the top… bathrooms facilities CLOSED!!! Café/bar: CLOSED.Written November 8, 2022

It is the second tour I did with Sinte Lugo and if the first fascinated me, this second was not far behind. Same Denis Guide who this time did it in English because there were most English speakers and the tour was spectacular on the boat through the del.Sil canyons and would also highlight Manuel, the Guide in the winery we visited for his directions when it came to appreciating the wines of the region. Highly recommended.

The boat, managed by the Deputación de Lugo, we take it from the jetty that is near Castro Caldelas in the direction of Monforte de Lemos.
The walk lasts two hours i/v. and is well documented by the detailed comments of the guide.
It is very worthwhile to be carried away by the landscape, the peace and the views of the vineyards perched on the slopes.
The price 5 € per person if you are over 65 years old.
It is advisable to wear warm clothes if you travel first thing.

The view of Sil and Miño boxed between almost vertical walls is beautiful but without more incentive. Good photos but nothing to do with a landscape that leaves you more impressed than seeing other tiled rivers, from a high position. The monasteries are the only ones worth it, (my review) is that of Santo Estevo, but you have to keep in mind that it is a national stop and on weekends it has weddings and you can not access its facilities, after a specific trip, without any notice on the web, you can take a ticker.

Buenas tardes, nos podría decir que día realizó el tour a Ribeira sacra con nosotros ya que nuestro tour no incluye la visita a los monasterios, motivo por el cual nos extraña su valoración. Un saludo
