About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jilliene0 contributionsHighlight of our time in Alaska! This day trip was the highlight of our time in Alaska. Being so close to so many glaciers in the boat was incredible! The boat was comfortable, the meal which was included in the price was tasty, and there were plenty of places on the boat to have great views of the glaciers (including from inside, through the windows.) Highly recommended by us, for sure.Written October 28, 2024
- 773dwaynek0 contributionsWould have been more enjoyable if had forward facing seatsThe cruise and view were outstanding. The only thing I would hope Phillip cruises change is put the people who booked/paid early looking foward on the cruise. My wife and I always had to turn our heads or stand up to see what the guide was talking about.. I say this because when I called your office to ask if seats are reserved or first come basis, he told me that the person assigns seats by when it was booked. He told me I would get good seat selection because I was one of the first to book this cruise( made it in May for September). Thx for looking into my suggestion.Written October 19, 2024
- fvlara0 contributionsGreat views unnecesary extracharge for the busThe "tour" has 2 parts, first a bus from downtown Anchorage to the cruise, if you can drive up to the location in Whittier, will be better, faster and cheaper, no one says anything in all the way or return (4 hours) and in the town they tell you, you have 1 hour to do whatever you want and there is absolutely nothing to do, there was just 1 coffee shop open. The cruise was very nice and the food was enough for the ride, impressive views, and landscapes that will always be in your mind.Written October 5, 2024
- kseniaw0 contributionsWell worth itThe tour was well organized and time well managed. The cruise was amazing, well worth the money. The driver on the way over tried to provide some information but he really needs to work on correct pronunciation of places he is talking about and the flow of his narrative. He did stop at some great viewing points though. Overall I would recommend!Written October 3, 2024

- 245lakenw0 contributionsKnowledgeable and friendly staffStaff was so knowledgeable and friendly! Bathrooms were what you would expect on a boat, not amazing. But the views, information, staff, and lunch was worth every penny. Had an amazing time even being solo.Written September 25, 2024
- peggysu10 contributionsGlaciers! This was an unforgettable day! We did take the bus to Whittier, it was nice to see the Turnagain Arm from a higher viewpoint. We had great visibility, as it was mostly sunny that day. We saw several massive glaciers and got very close to 2 of the larger ones. We were also the only larger boat out that day. We saw otters, eagles, seals, and a glimpse of a whale. There is no way way to adequately describe how large the glaciers are-but the trip was worth it. It was chilly out there, we were told we were lucky as many times they have squall like conditions. I had read to expect extreme weather, I took a backpack full of more clothes! So glad I didn't need them.Written September 24, 2024
- Sandandsunshine0 contributionsGood TourWe did a bus transfer one way with glacier tour. The pickup at Hotel Captain Cook was confusing as there were many buses and NOBODY had signs, so like us, most people waiting for various buses had no idea. John the bus driver was a professional, friendly and safe driver. Thank-you ! He explained the procedure to get on the boat very well. We were able to leave our luggage (as we were one way since we were boarding a cruise the next day) in the office. If you do a one way transfer, please tell the driver as head office / reservations WILL NOT. Head office does NOT care about food issues or anything else you put in your reservation notes NOR do they answer emails so you must phone them. Seating on the boat is assigned similar to an airplane with table number plus a letter for your seat around the table. If reservations told people this there would be no panic and pushing and shoving to board the boat to get the best seat possible. I can book my seat on an airplane, sports stadium, and concerts so ……why not this tour. The boat tour was excellent with the boat stopping at all the spots and moving the boat around so all got excellent views of all glaciers. Hats off to the Captain and crew.Written September 8, 2024
- K2565TBkarenc0 contributionsLong ride in the rainThis was a long day cruise. The food was ok. WE eat gluten free so when they came around with cookies there was nothing for us. The food was ok. It was a rainy day when we went and they go rain or shine so no refund. We did see glaciers but nothing else really.Written August 30, 2024
- 728kelseyf0 contributionsA must do when in anchorage!Amazing day! Drive to Whittier was great and the cruise was AMAZING! the captain and crew were lovely and helpful. The smoked salmon chowder was very good ( was skeptical). I also like how we had assigned seats - this meant we could move around and still have a place to sit/leave our bags. Weather was a bit iffy with rain but totally worth it!!Written August 25, 2024
- billwJ2099AD0 contributionsBest experienceMy wife and I had a tour booked with another company, to be picked up outside the Captain Cook Hotel. While waiting well past the time, we met Scott from this company. He made calls to his contacts trying to assist. After it seemed unlikely our company was coming, he offered to put us both on that days 26 Glaciers Tour for free. He didn’t want Alaska represented poorly to visitors. What an amazing and generous offer and positive attitude. In the end, our tour company showed up 90 minutes late, and their tour was ok, but I think we would have had a better experience on his tour. What an amazing experience offered to people that weren’t even his customers. Thank you Scott, the gesture was very much appreciated.Written August 22, 2024
- debbiemK2892IE0 contributionsGo now!It was awesome. The view was beautiful and we saw sea otters, sea lions, bear and a pod of orca whales. What a great time. Well worth the money spent.Written August 18, 2024
- Diana O0 contributionsUnmissable!I had a short time to visit Alaska and see a few of the sights, and this was BY FAR the highlight of my trip. The crew was friendly and helpful, the captain was fantastic about making sure everyone on both sides of the ship saw the highlights, and the US Forest Service ranger was amazing and so knowledgeable. The glaciers themselves are indescribably beautiful, and must be seen to be believed. If you only have time to do one thing when you’re in Alaska, this is the one you shouldn’t miss.Written August 15, 2024

- joannamM8922WP0 contributionsFantastic cruise with beautiful scenery! This is a wonderful trip! From the bus drive to Whittier, to getting onto the boat, it was a great excursion. The scenery is beautiful and the glaciers are very impressive. With the smaller ship, we go so much closer than you can with the large cruise ships. We've done Glacier Bay twice on Alaskan cruises and this was as impressive to us. It might have helped that we had beautiful weather as well.Written August 8, 2024

The drive to Whittier was a beautiful trip. The tunnel is something to see. The cruise exceeded expectations. The entire crew was professional and never stopped ensuring we were comfortable. Tips: bring a USB charger for your phone or battery pack. It is windy on deck. Bring a selfie stick, or attachment to keep your phonr stable while shooting hundreds of amazing photos. Parking in the lot is limited but pay by app parking is $11 just two lots down.

Close up view of the glaciers from the comfort of the vessel. The lunch was nice, but could have some more variety. The guide was outstanding, giving us lots of anecdotes and scientific information. Getting there and back is a bit of a pain, since the tunnel is open every hour. We left early to catch the 10:30am tunnel release so that we would be able to check in an hour in advance, and the earliest tunnel release we could catch going back was 7pm. You can park on site for $15 and walk around town before and after.

Thank you for cruising with us and sharing your review. Getting to Whittier is an adventure that takes you along the scenic Seward Highway, which is designated a National Scenic Byway. You also travel through North America's longest shared rail and vehicle tunnel to reach Whittier. We hope you enjoyed seeing the sights on the way to Whittier for your glacier and wildlife cruise. Safe travels. Lisa K.

What a beautiful day out. The weather couldn’t have been any better. Sunny, all glaciers were visible, otters and otter rafts, whales, and birds. An excellent tour guide in our Parks Ranger who explained the land and some of the history of the area we cruised. It was great having an assigned table and the table we had was perfect. Both my sister and I faced the front of the boat with no one in front of us, just a big window and the view. Marvelous! Both of us chose the clam chowder lunch and the clam chowder was one of the best I’ve had. I love clam chowder.
The captain was great. We thought we could tell from his voice that he was just as excited by the calving of the glacier as we were. We appreciated the time he allowed us to experience the falling of ice as long as he did. He was also great when he was alerted to a whale on our way back to port. Again he slowed down and stopped long enough for all of us to be able to watch the whale perform.
Would I recommend your cruise? Absolutely. I had been on one before as my son lives up in Girdwood, but my sister had never been to this gorgeous part of Alaska. Her experience couldn’t have been any better. Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful day with us.

It was raining like crazy. The sea at the dock were 2-3 feet high. The visibility was close to zero because of the sideways rain and fog. When we boarded they hoarded you on the deck next to a million other people in a room with no open windows, no ventilation and squeegee tool to clean the windows from all the hot breath air on the windows. It must have been 75 degrees inside and we were dressed in 4 layers for the weather. Crew told us to take off our jackets but the seats are tiny with zero space to put anything, tables are small and you sit next to strangers who don’t where masks! What a hot mess! Literally. Even though COVID is still real there was no acknowledgement and we were told we could go outside … Where it was pouring rain without any cover. Rude and dismissive staff! We were told there was covering but not with 40 mph wind and sideways rain. Very unacceptable and unaccommodating staff and management. Would only suggest you book this when you know you can be outside without pouring rain. We were told things that just made no sense and they didn’t want to hear anything I had to say!
It’s been over a week and I see no other reviews since our trip so I guess people don’t want to mention what I say but if there is a management response it will be just worthless and contradictory to my facts.

You can see there are many glowing reviews here . I think I may have enjoyed it more if i had a window seat or if it was not so rainy. You may have a more enjoyable tour if you manage to get those things. My review is based on the fact that they assign seats and the seats we were given were far from windows and too crowded to sit in for my tall husband. The tiny table we shared with two other people was 3-4 tables from any windows. We only sat when we were too cold and wet from trying to see something outside. Inside all the others crammed into small tables would stand all around us so that someone’s back was directly next to where i was sitting. It felt like i was suffocating in bodies all around. I am not that sensitive to crowds but this was extreme. Several times people leaned against me or almost sat on me and it felt overwhelming. We could not hear anything outside so we missed lunch announcement and came in to a cold soup. We had trouble getting to see wildlife because even though we waited outside in the rain, as soon as anything was announced inside , a hoard of people rushed outside and much of the time we happened to be in the wrong place so we were stuck behind a crowd of people. I understand that a boat this big holds a lot of people so this is inevitable but i wish i had booked on a smaller boat. There is another company with small boats. The water is pretty smooth and a smaller boat would be fine! Phillips does provide a nice lunch and we were able to see most of the glaciers but the crowd and being assigned to a very small table in the middle made it less the optimal. But if you are lucky enough to get a window seat of which there are few , it might be more enjoyable. It is just luck of the draw. We were one of the first to arrive and we still were placed at the center table. It also would be nicer if you are coming with a group of four who are all shorter people so you can fit at the table better. Next time id take the lazy otter tour or skip whittier and just take a major marine tour out of Seward( which was an excellent tour of glaciers and all the wildlife!!)

While the Phillips website and office in Anchorage were helpful, the actual cruise had some disappointments. The 26 Glacier tour to the Harvard Galcier is efficient and comfortable with adequate inside seating in the rainy overcast weather we experienced. Getting close to the glaciers is impressive. Less so was the delayed and disorganized boarding and the rather doleful captain’s narration. That narration, over several hours and focused on glaciation, never once mentioned climate change or global warning as a factor in glacier recession/regression/retreat. Alaska’s climate is changing more rapidly than most places, which was mentioned in almost every other tour or experience in our two weeks there, but Phillips seems oblivious. I am pretty sure this was the captain and not a park ranger, so we may have been shorted.

We took the coastal train from Anchorage to Whittier. That in itself was educational and beautiful. Was narrated the whole trip. It was a beautiful day cruising in the Prince William Sound on a catamaran. Cruise was narrated by a National Forest Ranger. Captain would navigate the boat to give passengers time to good view of sea life and glaciers. We saw sea lions, birds, otters and 2 humpback whales. The boat got up close to the glaciers and we got to see a massive ice calving into the sea. The deck hands even snagged a chunk of ice and made drinks for passengers.
Lunch was Salmon soup, roll, crackers & cheese and coleslaw. Would recommend the salmon soup because it was delicious. There was also bar on board. Dessert was warm chocolate chip cookies.
The cruise was meet all expectations. Would highly recommend it.

Loved this cruise! It was one of the best things we did on our land trip in Alaska. We were apprehensive at first because we all have a history of getting sea sick. We went on a calm, rainy day but we never felt the least bit sick.
The vegetarian chili and the sides were very good, a very pleasant surprise. We self drove from Anchorage to Whittier. I highly recommend this glacier cruise for anyone traveling in Alaska!

Well organized cruise along Prince Williams Sound. Note there is assigned seating - which make sense when the boat is packed but on the day I went the boat was half full yet they jammed packed into specific areas. I was assigned a seat facing backwards from the direction of the boat and then it was 4 seat table with no legroom or space for your stuff. Not the best experience. Also I wasn’t aware there were 2 food options - salmon chowder or veggie chili. I got the salmon chowder which was fine. It came with tiny cup of cold slaw, roll, cheese square, peppermint paddy, packet of fruit chews and then towards the conclusion warm chocolate chip cookie. The boat goes at least 30 knots so it’s not a slow ride for those who get seasick. We didn’t see much wildlife as the main point is to check out the glaciers which the narration was done by one of the National Park Rangers - he was really knowledgeable. Also they don’t allow you onto the bow of the boat until the boat is stopped which made for massive of people waiting for one crew hand to open it for people to go out and take the view. Anyone’s assigned to tables near the bow entrance complained about how cold they got with the door being open and closed near them.
Note if you drive in a rental car to Whittier, there is parking (not many) right by the 26 Glacier Tour Company’s ticket office which is hidden by the massive terminal for the cruise ship terminal. I missed this and parked down the street across from the terminal as I had a hard time locating the ticket office.

A trip worthy to experience. Was a sunny calm day and the boat ride was great, however windy and chilly when outside. The kids loved being able to walk about the large boat and view the scenery from multiple sides and levels. The lunch was nice, chowder for us and hot dogs for the kids. There is a bar/snack shop on board as well as complimentary coffee tea and water. There are also USB plugs to recharge your cells or cameras. Restrooms clean. Nice and attentive staff and good narration from the Captain and the Park Ranger. Had multiple stops and the Cpt rotated the boat to let both side view the Glaciers. I think we saw 4-5 up close and the others are a long distance away (miles), however photogenic. DO NOT plan on visiting 26 glaciers up close. The wildlife this trip was Otters, sea lions, harbor seals and birds. Dress warm, There was an assigned table where we left our packs.
