- 1We will visit either Rendezvous Mile High Ridgeline, two of the best ridgelines in the entire Chugach State Park. They feature both alpine scenes and 360 views of the Anchorage Bowl. We'll determine which location we visit based on weather and group ability the day of the hike. Ridgeline trekking is an incredibly unique way to see the landscape. While the ascent can be tough, once you arrive at the top, it is truly remarkable. You can see forever! On a clear day, we can even see Mt. Denali hundreds of miles away! Plus, the terrain can be fairly flat, making the trekking a truly enjoyable experience. During the tour, we may see moose, bear, Dall sheep, mountain goats, and a variety of small mammals like arctic squirrels and marmots. There are also plenty of birds to gaze at like bald eagles, thrushes, chickadees, and jays. This is one of our favorite ways to hike Alaska and the Chugach State Park. Transportation included in total time of tour: (1 hour transportation & 4 hours hiking)

Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- raymondkX6783JM0 contributionsBeautiful. Peaceful. Serendipitous!Mike was amazing! I’ll definitely book him as my guide in a heartbeat. I learned so much about different things about plants and animals, that i would have usually overlooked. He was also very helpful w/ iPhone photography, and we had great discussion about everything. He even recommended us to a nice restaurant that has been our favorite so far on this trip. We love you, Mike!!!!Written December 20, 2024
- davidbN9053LR0 contributionsWinter Wonderland indeedMike was my guide and he was great!! He gave me information on the waterfall, snow, ice and basically pretty much everything I needed to know! He was checking on my temperature to make sure I wasn’t cold and also stopped to take pictures of me and gave me great tips! He was the best and the views were amaaaaazing! It was such a journey to be there, the ice on ice, the water below ice, I mean everything was just great. Definitely 11/10!!Written December 7, 2024
- tripster212180 contributionsWet but great day hike - watch out for boulder field at the end!The hike itself (we did the South Fork Eagle River Trail to Eagle and Symphony Lakes in Chugach State Park - 11 miles out and back) was great and our guide (Caleb) was very good and knowledgeable - we had some great conversations about living in Alaska, climate change etc. It ended up raining/drizzling all day so there were many puddles along the way that we did the best to avoid (one of us had waterproof hiking boots but not the other, so their shoes and socks got completely drenched). The boulder field at the end is quite challenging for oldsters like us who can't risk breaking bones, because they were wet and slippery in spots. The description on the TripAdvisor page said "day packs, trekking poles and apple, granola bar, cheese stick, sandwich" were included. Caleb did bring PB&J sandwiches for us and water bottles, but that was it. We brought our own backpacks, trekking poles and snacks (one of us is diabetic so can't each sugary snacks), and good thing we also packed rain ponchos.Written September 29, 2024
- 657brenw0 contributionsAWESOME HikeWe could not have had a better Alaskan hiking experience! Our guide, Caleb, was nothing short of PHENOMENAL! He was knowledgeable of the area's history, kept safety on the forefront and strived to ensure we had a memorable hiking experience. We also learned about and were able to try different berries along the way but were warned which plants and berries to avoid due to toxicity. So thankful we went with GoHikeAlaska and even more thankful to have had Caleb as our guide! Will definitely seek out another hiking experience with them on our next Alaska trip 😊Written September 1, 2024
- 728kristaz0 contributionsAwesome hike!Go Hike Alaska was amazing! My friend and I came to Alaska and booked this hike/walk through a tour company and we’re so glad they chose this company! Our guide, Caleb, was fantastic - we were able to go further because we moved fast, so we got to see some incredible views thanks to his expertise! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Go Hike Alaska to anyoneWritten August 30, 2024

- Venture676381217770 contributionsAwesome time with family! Our family had a wonderful time hiking with our guide Caleb! He is clearly passionate about what he does and is extremely knowledgeable. Caleb was able to point out a bunch of native flora that was edible and we were even able to try some of it! We had different ability levels in my family and Caleb was able to cater to all of us, and the tour is capped at a small number so we were the only ones - it was basically a private tour. The views were beautiful and Caleb even helped us take pictures together! We did not feel rushed at all, and this was a fantastic way to spend our first day in Alaska.Written August 19, 2024
- Missllan0 contributionsAlaskan hike in the sunshineA wonderful afternoon hike in Alaskan sunshine. The company was great from the moment I booked and communicated well prior to the tour. As a solo traveller this was very reassuring to know. Caleb was an excellent tour guide and tailored the walk to suit us. He gave us options for the route and took the hike at our pace. There was only one other person on the tour so it felt like a private tour. Caleb was really Informative and stopped along the way for us to sample the berries (and tell us which ones to stay clear of!) The park is beautiful and there were lot of opportunities to take photos and just take in the surrounding. I learned more about the Alaskan wilderness in the three hours on this tour than I did over the course of my three week trip. No bears seen on this trip but it was incredible knowing we were walking the same paths as them. Worth getting out of the city for.Written August 16, 2024
- jackimona0 contributionsGreat hikeCaleb is a fantastic tour guide. He went above and beyond for us. Very knowledgeable about the bushes and wildlife. Fantastic hike 4.1 miles. Thanks again Caleb I enjoyed the hike immensely. Recommend this hike.Written August 16, 2024

- maryaS838FN0 contributionsMorning HikeWe had a great time with Caleb. He was very knowledgeable about the area and set a great pace for our hike. He set up a spotting scope so we could see some of the waterfalls across the river. The process of booking our hike was very easy. We highly recommend Go Hike Alaska.Written August 14, 2024

- Dream593702686920 contributionsBeautiful Hike Close to Downtown Anchorage! We took a two week trip to Alaska in July and the first thing on our itinerary was the Summer Valley and Forest Hike with Go Hike Alaska. We booked the tour through Alaska Tour and Travel (will review that company separately as well). Our flight was significantly delayed the night before so we got in really late and were concerned about being too tired but it ended up being great! The company picks you up from downtown Anchorage in a large van and driven approximately 40 minutes outside of the city to the Eagle River/Chugach State Park. We were a family of three (two adults and a 10-year-old) and we had an older couple with us (maybe late 60s?) We were told that max group size is 5, which I think was a great business plan. The weather was slightly cool with some very light drizzle but it was extremely comfortable since we were dressed appropriately. Our guide was Caleb, and he was excellent. He wasn't native to Alaska but had lived there for quite some time and really knew a lot about the area. We had about a 5-mile hike throughout the absolutely gorgeous Alaskan landscape, which took about 2 hours. The mountains and glaciers in the distance were beautiful, and the forested area was so green and lush. The river was beautiful. The hike was not very stressful but difficult enough for our daughter to be able to handle it well without be bored. (Her favorite part was climbing a few large rocks to get a great photo op). We saw SO MUCH BEAR SCAT but luckily (unluckily?) we didn't see any actual bear. We DID see a moose though! After our valley hike loop, we got back in the van and travelled about 15 min to our second location. It was about a mile hike to a beautiful waterfall (Barbara Falls) and that part of the hike was definitely more difficult. Not strenuous but definitely more difficult footwork. I would not recommend that portion for people unsteady on their feet or young children. Caleb was very attentive and serious about our welfare throughout. Some light trail snacks were provided during the trip, as well as bottles of water, which was definitely appreciated. Overall, we had a wonderful time and it was a perfect start to what ended up being a perfect trip!Written August 4, 2024
- birgerh2440 contributionsAmazing hikeThis was and an amazing tour. We were only the two of us, and our guide Caleb were very good at telling us about the flowers and berries. We had a wonderful time, even though we didn’t see any bears and mooses.Caleb was very friendly and entertaining and we had an awesome experience.Written July 31, 2024
- H6213IKdavids0 contributionsAn expert Guide for our Alaska adventureWe had an amazing trip to Alaska this past week. Out of all the activities we did the one that we all voted was the best was our Go Hike Alaska hiking trip. Our expert guide was a gentlemen named Caleb Darling. His depth of knowledge of the area we were hiking in and with Alaska in general was very informative. He ensured we were able to visit some very special spots with beautiful scenery that created memories for our family that we will cherish for a lifetime. If you planning a trip and looking for a fantastic experience then I strongly recommend this company and requesting Caleb and you will be sure to have a wonderful time.Written July 28, 2024

My husband and I hiked the Alpine Classic Trek in September. Greg, our guide, was awesome. Lots of interesting conversation between us and you could tell he was extremely knowledgeable about Alaska. His love for the outdoors was evident, and he made us excited to experience each step up the mountain, even though we knew he's done this same hike too many times to count. When we first arrived in Anchorage, we were a bit underwhelmed - especially having traveled from Denali. However, this hike totally redeemed the stop in Anchorage on our Alaskan vacation. For us, the hike was challenging enough to still be an adventure (we regularly hike sand dunes at home so we felt physically capable for this hike). And the views...omg the views...We luckily had great weather and our pictures from this hike are probably better than the pictures from Denali Park. I would definitely recommend - and if I ever come back to AK I would consider another stop in Anchorage to hike this beautiful area.

We booked our tour through Alaska Tour and Travel as part of a package. Go Hike Alaska was promptly emailing us ahead of time for waivers and confirmation of pick up location, etc. The Alpine Classic Trek was our second experience with Go Hike Alaska on this vacation.
Our Guide Lea was prompt at the pick up location. We waited 10 minutes while she tried to find the last person booked for the excursion. Once it was confirmed that they would not make it, we were off! Lea is a wonderful guide and we were happy to have her lead us on this second outing.
The hike is a steep incline right off. We had gone up Mt Healy in Denali, and it was more of a switchback that went up gradually. The Alpine Hike was straight up with several breaks provided by Lea to catch our breath, or I should say my breath, the rest of my party seemed to have no issues!
We were advised to get some pictures in early, since the clouds will be unpredictable on this day when we reach the top. Lea was correct! We got to the top and were surrounded by a cloud. You could not see anything. We stayed at the top for 30 minutes - in that timeframe it did clear up somewhat, and we were able to get some really nice pictures. We were given a choice on paths to return back down to the vehicle. Lea made sure to explain what the differences were. We chose the back side. It was a moose trail, and muddy. We were prepared. It was muddy, but a very different decent! All of my party enjoyed the hike up and back down.

My husband and I did the Alpine Classic Trek at the end of August and it was absolutely one of the highlights of our time in Alaska. Matt was a fantastic guide, hitting the perfect mix of laid-back fun and expertise. He was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife and helped us safely forage some tasty berries while keeping us feeling safe and energized on the unfamiliar terrain of the national park.
We found the website description of the trek to be very accurate. Matt picked us up at the meeting point precisely at the noted time and had us back in town as expected, following Covid protocols during transit. We hiked for about three hours and although we didn't find the uphill portion too strenuous, we were very thankful for the hiking poles he provided for the slippery, muddy route back down. Overall, this was a super fun (and educational!) way to see the area!

Britt was a knowledgeable and a friendly guide. Overcast days limited some of the views but she still made sure we enjoyed ourselves. Finished a bit early so she stopped by a beautiful waterfall on the way back.

My wife and I did the Alpine Classic Trek in July. My biggest regret is not going even bigger. The hike was enjoyable, the view from the top incredible, and the guide (Rebecca) knowledgable. I highly recommend.

This hike was excellent! Our guide, Greg, took us to a trail outside of Anchorage that we would have never found on our own, given this was our first trip to AK. Greg is really kind, insightful, and all around a cool guy. He went out of his way to ensure our safety and enjoyment. Would highly recommend to those who like to hike. Great way to see AK from yet another beautiful perspective. Many thanks to Greg!
