About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- dianabE1181YB0 contributionsBreathtaking viewsThe tour was awesome never seen anything like this before, the tour guide Megan was very knowledgeable and friendly, took her time to show us and explain the phenomenon of the glaciersWritten March 27, 2025
- LenaH28050 contributionsAmazing experience IN the GlaciersWow you would think cruising up close and see glaciers is a bucket list, wait till you walk INTO the glaciers and listen to the rich stories provided by Bill our excellent guide! You meander through the crevasses and discover different scenery as you journey into this easy 1.5hr walk (which flew by too quickly because the scenery is simply breathtaking!) WE LOVE IT SO MUCH! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Written March 24, 2025
- aniclay0 contributionsAmazing Experience! Go with the Experts! This was the most amazing experience! Dana really knows her stuff and provided a great experience. This tour is with experts who know the area, the Aurora behavior and they are phenomenal photographers! It was cold (wear double socks and bring extra hot hands warmers for your gloves and socks!) but tolerable and worth it! The guides understand the science behind the auroras and, if you stick it through, after snacks and naps the light show will leave you speechless! Thank you Dana for an incredible experience!Written March 24, 2025
- LenaH28050 contributionsProfessionals who know what they do and being the best at what they do!Best tour ever! So much prep and assurance by Steve & Chris (the amazing guide who brought us) and the result was an amazing aurora show! The technology they used to ensure the best experience possible. Tip: give them the range of days you’ll be in Anchorage and they will find the best night to bring you out for the tour - because they are so good at reading the forecast, you are in good hands! We went on Mar 8, it was a spectacular burst of show! Thank You Greatland! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Written March 23, 2025
- barclay20250 contributionsAlaskan Anniversary tripGreatland Adventures delivered the most amazing adventures we could have dreamed of; the Northern lights were amazing, and Dana, our guide made it an even more memorable experience with her knowledge and enthusiasm; not to mention the most amazing natural light show I’ve ever experienced. Jonathan was awesome on our Turnagain excursion with decades of knowledge shared, and far more sites than expected; a truly gorgeous trip. Finally, Bill, our Matanuska Glacier guide was a delight. He was extremely knowledgable and super friendly with a vast enthusiasm for his work and a true love of nature and Alaskan history; the glacier is a must visit.Written March 21, 2025
- Michelle T0 contributionsAwesome Glacier ExperienceBetter than expected! Guide (Tia) was knowledgeable and friendly. Very communicative about pick up times. Lunch was great. But obviously the best part was the glacier! Super glad to have someone else drive us too, road was a bit sketchy. Truly beautiful though, so glad we did this!Written March 21, 2025
- Excursion395633151280 contributionsBreathtaking viewsThe views were breathtaking and our guide was 5 star! Thanks Tia for your wealth of knowledge! We highly recommend this trip for all ages.Written March 20, 2025
- congmingw0 contributionsGreat chance to see aurora!Tim is a very good guide and teacher, under his guidance I got great shots of the aurora and learned to spot them on my own! No worries if you don’t have heavy coats to stay in the outside all the time, it’s ok to stay in the van cause the brilliant guide will never let you miss the aurora! However, as many have said, the aurora is not as dramatic to the naked eye as it is to the camera, so it is more recommended for those who want to take pictures and share them!Written March 12, 2025
- Cubs0 contributionsSo much fun!We did a private glacier tour. Our guide was great and shared all sorts of interesting information with us. We were picked up at our hotel in a nice van and driven to the glacier. We then explored the amazing ice. It happened to be a beautiful day and exploring the glacier was just a ton of fun! One amazing beautiful thing to see after another! Both of our teens loved it including the hard to impress one. This is an adventure walk vs hike if you’re concerned about that. A highlight for us!Written March 11, 2025
- Kelcey T0 contributionsWorth being up all night! Bucket list item!Great tour! We chased the lights and were finally successful. Guide was perky and funny- just what was needed for an overnight tour. Dress warm in layers and bring a pillow!Written March 11, 2025
- melaniecE5249AD0 contributionsBest Northern Light Tour in AnchorageMoving forward, I will only recommend Greatland Adventures to anyone wanting to see the Northern Lights in Alaska. They take such a refreshing approach to viewing the Northern Lights from the passionate attitudes of the drivers and the guides to the atmospheric chemistry mind of the owner. This is truly their bread and butter and they dedicate hours of their day to make sure that you have the best experience possible. We went in Anchorage and we had both Dana and Aaron as our guides (Dana for 2 nights and Aaron for 1). Honestly, their excitement made the standing outside in the cold more like a team effort. They were awesome and their photography skills were AMAZING for those creative shots. Initially, we booked for three nights in a row because we were so nervous that we weren't going to see it in Anchorage. We definitely searched and had to escape some cloud coverage, but we saw them every night. When we tell people that we saw the lights three nights in a row, they said we were lucky. We said it was all the tour company. This is the place that you want to book. Also, the owner Steve is tremendous and his knowledge in atmospheric chemistry gives this experience a whole new meaning. Just a beautiful blend of a majestic scientfic phenomenon. Just do yourself a favor and book with them. The whole experience is incredible and you won't regret it.Written March 7, 2025
- H5018HAthomasp0 contributionsAmazing Northern Lights in FairbanksWe had an amazing experience with Greatland Adventures! Jacob was very easy to work with on the day of the tour to confirm all necessary logistical information. Mike was a great tour guide whose energy and passion was contagious! It turned out the weather was just right to visit their dedicated viewing location in Fairbanks, which really made the experience magnificent. Luckily, Mother Nature put on a great show for us the night of our tour. The service of Greatland Adventures made the night all the better!Written March 4, 2025

- Jessie T0 contributionsA once in a lifetime experienceThis was not what I was expecting when we signed up for a freezing hike. The trip was sooo much more than that and we highly recommend it. The guides were absolutely amazing and full of knowledge. I feel like we got to see a side of Alaska that most people will unfortunately not get to experience without a tour like this. 10/10 recommend that people take this tour.Written February 22, 2025

I can’t tell you how grateful I feel for booking this tour last minute. I was incredibly fortunate to have spent a handful of days in Alaska and wanted to make the most of my trip, rain or shine by enjoying any activity that was still being offered in the month of Oct.
This tour operator was beyond professional and they provided me with helpful information about what to wear, pack and most importantly what to expect throughout the tour. Our tour operator Bill was simply outstanding. He shared with us a little bit of Alaskan history and made sure that we were comfortable on the ice whether it was just by lending a hand to avoid one of us slipping, playing personal photographer, and allowing us to enjoy the glacier without feeling rushed.
The highlight of our trip, needless to say was Matanuska itself, my zen, inspiration and everlasting memory. I felt like a million bucks since our group of three got to enjoy the glacier all too ourselves. Our three mile trek flew by due to the beautiful scenery.
Following our trek on the ice, we went to lunch at a small and quaint lodge where a variety of burgers, sandwiches and salads were on the menu. I highly recommend the salmon patty sandwich with the side mixed green salad with apple Dijon vinaigrette. Absolutely yummy and a perfectly healthy meal.
Thank you Greatlands for guaranteeing to operate a tour with bare minimum people, rain or shine! I couldn’t have experienced this without you all.

Stopped by for an impromptu walk along the Matanuska Glacier. Sunny skies. It was a guided tour, (that’s all they allow now) for a couple hours. Drive down the gravel road into the valley to reach the check-in, then another couple miles to where you start the tour. The guide was great, patient, had a lot of good info without talking continuously. Allowed time to just look around, take pictures, etc. They provided everything we needed, sticks, hard hat. Proper footwear is really important. Wandering around the glacier for a couple of hours was a blast, so much better than a just a stop and look. The guide took really good care of us, making sure we were safe, steady, etc. Everyone was really nice and helpful.
Up near the top of our list of favorite excursions during our vacation. (side notes – the drive from Glennallen to the Glacier on a sunny morning was grand, the nearby restaurant recommended by our guide was a delight. )

Our Matanuska Glacier Hike was fun. It was a long drive, but it was well worth the trip. We hiked around the glacier and got some great pictures learning about what it felt like to hike on ice. Our guide, Matt was a nice young man , but was not as forthcoming with information about the history and geography as we had hoped. In fact, much of what he talked about was his friends and his band in which he plays guitar. Either way, it was worth the trip and Greatland Adventures was easy to work with. We have always tried to work directly with the actual Tour Operator instead of an intermediate booking agency, simply to have a direct connection to those that have the actual experience with a trip. Dillion and Stephen were particularly helpful in answering questions we had before the trip. We would recommend this trip as well as Greatland Adventures to friends.

Hello Dale,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave some feedback for us! It sounds like you had a great day overall, which is our goal! In addition to passing along all the kind words, I will definitely have a content review with our glacier team. It's always nice to have a refresher with everyone once in a while.
As a small "family" run operation we greatly appreciate your direct booking business! It's always a better experience for guests and operators to have a direct connection.
Thanks again, and we hope to adventure with you in the future!

The views of the glacier were spectacular. We lucked out as fall was starting so we got the added bonus of seeing the leaves changing.
Diego was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable and took into account everyone's abilities. He would assist where possible or show alternate paths if you are unable.
This was a great experience. Don't worry about walking on the ice. You will wear spikes to grip the ice. As long as you listen to your guide, everything is safe and you will walk away with some cool pics.

I had a phenomenal experience with Greatland Adventures! I planned a last minute trip to Alaska, and Steve assisted with mapping out an itinerary that would allow me to go on all the excursions I was hoping to do. When a flight-seeing tour was cancelled last minute due to weather, I called Steve, and he very quickly managed to rebook me on a different excursion with transportation the same day so that I could have another opportunity to try the flight the next day. Couldn't have been happier with the attentiveness and individual assistance and the planned excursions were fabulous. I appreciated the small group sizes. My highest recommendation!!

This was a great experience! It's crazy to actually be able to walk and climb on a glacier!
Our guide, Matt, picked us up at our hotel and drove us out to the glacier. We were very lucky to have him to ourselves! He was extremely knowledgeable and we really enjoyed spending the day with him. He picked us up at 8 am and we returned at around 4.

Was so amazing. Our guide Alyssa was fantastic. She told us all about the glacier and answered all our questions. She kept us safe and on our feet. She pointed out different things about the glacier and why it can be very dangerous. Very knowledgeable. She was fun to be on the glacier with. Great sense of humor. If you go ask for her to be your guide.

The hike on the glacier was awesome. Sean was such a good guide making sure we saw all the best sites and stayed safe. We were a party of four and all agreed this was the best tour we did while in Alaska. The total party was 6 so the small number made the tour so much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend.

My family and I did this tour with Matt, who was an amazing guide! He was very prompt for hotel pickup, and he stopped for bathroom breaks and picture opportunities on the way to the glacier. He was knowledgeable about many things to narrate the entire day, and he took nice photos for us too once we arrived. He also was able to adapt the tour based on our party’s different physical capabilities while on the glacier, which we appreciated. We loved not having to worry about transportation, and there were the nice touches of having water and snacks available to us too. Lunch was delicious — I imagined it would be a boxed lunch but we sat down at a local eatery in Palmer. Highly recommend this tour! If I return to Alaska again, I would definitely book another tour with Greatland Adventures!

We did an amazing hike on the Matanuska Glacier with Greatland. The transport, hiking, and guides Matt and Bill were fabulous. They did such a good job of tailoring it to our diverse little group. The were funny, knowledgeable, patient, and knew all the right spots to take the best photos. I would recommend Greatland to any visitors to Anchorage. A must do!
