Sincere chase of aurora lights and good hospitality.
Ben took about 10 tourists in a van to Knik river near Pioneer mountain where Kavin joined with 3 more tourists. First there was no sightings then, they drove 15 minutes chasing aurora Northern Lights. After waiting for 5 minutes we proceeded further another 15 minutes and that's where there was very good aurora lights. As time passed, by around 02.45 hrs, there was abundant show in the sky. Ben also clicked our some of the memorable pics with aurora lights. In the meantime, Ben & Kavin treated us with coffee and snack bars. My wife and I loved the whole experience. If any, next time I would tour with them only.

    Wonderful experience! Wonderful guides!
I went two nights in a row—the first night we didn’t see any lights. (They informed us of this in advance and let us have the option of going or not going. I went---you never know if something could happen….) One the second day, they let me know that since nothing happened the previous night I could go again and that there was a higher probability of seeing them. And, we did! It was wonderful. While it was two long nights in a row, I was able to meet two different guides---they both knew a lot about photography, capturing the aurora cameras/ cell phones and were really kind. I really appreciated the attention they provided to all of the guests to make sure we all had a good experience. (The photos I'm sharing were provided to us after the experience.)

    1/2 day photo tour
My husband and I did a private 1/2 day tour with Carl. Anchorage was covered in over a foot of fresh snow and we had a great day! He was able to get us back to some of the parks so we could “hunt” for moose. We ended up going up a mountain and found a mom with her baby. We wanted some fun photos of us playing in the snow and he was willing to help us make those happen. He also gave us instruction on how to use our canon camera as well as tips for using our camera phones. He helped us understand composition and taught us how to take better pictures. Hot drinks and snacks were provided along the way also. A nice touch! We would book with Carl again!

    Wow!
This was an educational and amazing experience. Our guide, Carl, was extremely knowledgeable and excited to share his passion for the northern lights with us. Small group, plenty of assistance with photo taking and as an added bonus, individual portraits with the Aurora Borealis as the backdrop. I highly recommend this company.

I Wished upon a shooting star! Dream come true!
This tour was the highlight of my Alaska vacation!!. Ben was our guide & he is a pro at finding the best viewing areas & an outstanding photographer! He was also very informative about the aurora & other astronomy. I saw several shooting stars and made a wish. The weather forcast was in our favor & we saw a magnificent aurora show! I could see the greens and pinks with the naked eye once it intensified! The van was warm & comfy. The tour included tasty hot cider and professional photos to take home! I highly recommend this tour!

Aurora Quest Alaska- Aurora Chaser Tour
We booked the Aurora Chaser Tour with Aurora Quest Alaska for 3 nights on 9/27/23 to 9/30/23. The weather forecast was cloudy on 9/27/23 so Ray, the owner and tour guide, gave us the option to continue with the tour or not but recommended that it might not be a good time to chase the northern lights. My family and friends cancelled and we got refunded our money right away. The second night, Ray drove us to 3 spots in the mountains. Right away, as we were driving, the aurora showed up on the sky and we were all so excited to see it for the first time. Around 1:30 AM, the aurora just exploded all over the sky, dancing and with different colors. The moon was full so it washed the colors away a little bit but it was nonetheless the most exciting experience of our lives! T he following night, Ray encouraged us to go out again and very patiently took us to a couple of different spots to see the aurora. It was a successful night as well but the lights were not as clear as the night before. When our group decided to go back to hotel before the tour ends, Ray drove us to one last spot as a last hurrah and that was when the aurora exploded again! So thank you, Ray, for being patient, nice and for being persistent so our group may experience this once-in-a-lifetime event! I have already recommended this tour to some of my friends who have asked.

    Amazing tour
Our guide, Ben, did a great job leading us through this experience. He helped us find a great viewing location, kept us informed of any changes, and helped us (me) find the best way to use our smartphone for photos. He explained how a full moon or clouds can impact the view as well. Would highly recommend this tour!!! If I’m able to return to Alaska, I would gladly schedule this tour again. As a reminder to anyone considering the tour, watch the temps! With the wind chill, it was around 20 degrees while we were out (mid Oct). Ben was also very considerate of our needs as we traveled to and from the site and while at the site. Hot drinks were great handwarmers and l’ll forever think of the northern lights when I have hot apple cider 😁

    Great guide!
We had Rene as our guide for the night and he did a wonderful job as our guide. He made sure we were situated in a good location with minimal light pollution and helped us identify the start of the northern lights display. We were extremely fortunate to have a wonderful hour long northern lights display. During that time, Rene was extremely helpful in providing tips on the ideal camera settings for my SLR. Thanks to him, I was able to snap some very nice photos. Would highly recommend Aurora Quest to anyone seeking a northern lights tour guide. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

    Auroras and More
Tour: Brooks Range Autumn Workshop I have never witnessed an aurora let alone photographed one. This tour initially appealed to me as it offered not just those opportunities but also a trip into the remote Interior Alaska which is not something to be taken lightly without proper planning and safety. Mission accomplished on all mentioned on a great trip with a great guide! Carl certainly facilitated much of the success. He pointed to and interpreted online aurora forecasting tools while providing the supporting science in addition to weather forecasts. Of course, he put us in front of some fantastic background/foreground elements. As long as the clouds stayed away, we were in great shape. First aurora encounter was a low intensity Kp2 which was not much to the naked eye. After getting on location and attempting a test photo, "WOW"! Leading to that moment was a presentation on baseline aurora camera settings and setup. As we shot the auroras, Carl provided additional guidance as necessary and checked on our results (and us) throughout the night. A post photoshoot photo critique was performed so we could quickly fix any shortcomings and be better for our next photo opportunity. During the day, we would arrive at various visually stunning locations further enhanced due to lighting or supporting elements as potential inspiration for general landscape photos or potential aurora photo stops. Los of mud just about everywhere. Take the opportunity to pick Carl's brain on those perplexing photo questions you have always had. Food was plentiful and tasty, especially the banana cream pudding dessert! Suggestions: Have addition reviews of photos taken during subsequent nights. Not too many times for me at least to interact with an renown aurora photo expert. Automated text messages were sent out reminding folks that the trip was starting soon need to be corrected to reduce confusion. It gave wrong meeting times compared to the itinerary that needed to be clarified via email/text. As a reminder to those from the Lower 48 or abroad, check with your cell/mobile provider if they have service in Alaska beforehand if that is important to you. I assumed I had coverage coming from California but no.

    We got very lucky!
Considering the moon's brightness and the cloud coverage that night, I had little expectation of witnessing the Northern Lights. Carl provided us with honest information about the weather conditions and the likelihood of seeing the aurora. Despite the odds, we decided to take a chance. Our guide Ben drove us further north to chase the clear sky and eventually, we did find some breaks in the clouds and were able to catch glimpses of it. The aurora was very faint tho and just visible to make eyes. Ben was exceptionally knowledgable and dedicated. Overall we enjoy the aurora hunting experience! Would love to come back in winter month for a better view.

    Northern Light Tour
I just had the most amazing time on Alaska Photo Treks Northern Lights tour! From start to finish, it was an absolute thrill. Our guide was not only friendly but also a true expert, adding a personal touch to the experience. We ventured to a remote location, and the Northern Lights were an absolute showstopper. The colors and movement were beyond words. The team provided everything for our comfort, from cozy seating to hot drinks. Learning about the cultural significance from our guide added depth to the experience. Sharing the awe with fellow participants was the perfect ending. This tour is an absolute winner if you're after a short, unforgettable escape into the beauty of nature. Don't miss it!

Carl knows a LOT about Alaska and photography. It rained the whole time but we were still able to take great pictures. "Sunset" was at 12:30 a.m. which was pretty awesome. Fun experience.

Great teaching about use of light and shadow. Definitely worth the time but take bug spray along.
Different light at beginning and end of tour made a lot of excellent learning opportunities

So glad you enjoyed the tour. Changing light makes a difference. One of the exercises we did in my photo intro class in college was to photograph the same scene, same composition, multiple times of day. But don't worry about bug spray, we have plenty in the van! Thanks for the feedback.

This is an amazing tour company. We took 2 tours, the phone tour our first day and the sunset tour our last day. I highly recommend both. I am so glad I choose this for our first tour because we learned so many great tips about taking pictures on the phone. We also learned a lot of about the area. He took us to so many great spots and knew where to go for the best shots. I also liked that the itinerary was flexible. He knew just where to go for the sunset and even found moose for us. When I return to Anchorage (which I will this winter) I will most definitely be doing their Aurora tour.

Wow!!!! wish we would have done this at the beginning of our trip. When I fist booked this I thought it would just be for my sister who has a SLR, me all I had was my phone. Wow was I wrong. Carl helped me with picking great vantage points for awesome pictures, and tricks to get to make them amazing. He helped my sister out with her camera, giving her tips and helping her fin all the settings. Highly recommend this. Oh yeah we actually got to see a moose.

The excursion was nothing like I thought it would be when I booked it but it surpassed any of my expectations. I would and have recommend this tour to anyone and everyone I could tell about what we did. It was absolutely amazing, beautiful and educational. I will never forget what we learned and I love sharing it with others. Definitely in our top three of all of our excursions on a two week vacation.

I booked this tour last minute and was so glad I had a chance to do this before returning home. Carl and Benjamin gave us special attention regardless of where we were in our photography skills either with a DSLR or a smart phone. In addition to the great photo tips, it was wonderful to get "inside knowledge" from a local's perspective about all things Alaska. We lucked out the evening before summer solstice and was able to capture a spectacular midnight sun! An assortment of hot beverages and snacks was an unexpected bonus :)

My husband (a non-photographer) booked this excursion for us because while we like nature, we had limited time and interest in ATV tours or kayaking. So, we went on recommendation from the local visitor center as well as reviews on tripadvisor. This was a FABULOUS experience for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations and Jody is amazing. She knows all about and is proud of her home state and city. She knows great locations and went to great lengths to help us get awesome shots. We felt like we had a private tour since it was only one other guest with us. We visited multiple sites we would not have seen otherwise. Jody was completely prepared for every situation and kindly offered everything from wet wipes to lens cleaner and snacks with hot beverages to boot! We found the information gained to be of great value as we continued our trip through Alaska. Many people have commented on the high quality photos I posted to social media as a result of her camera advice and knowledge. I would highly recommend this for those who have DSLR or cell phone cameras. We had quite a memorable excursion.

We had a great small group tour with Jody, who despite the rain forged ahead and brought us to some great spots just outside of Anchorage. Despite no animals being seen (and Jody tried hard to find them), we got a chance to do long exposures (my favorite) and see some incredible places, like Potters Marsh. Great expertise shared, she had spare tripods and other gear for people who needed them, even had snacks for our evening tour. Highly recommended, even if you are not so into photography, the places she will take are you breathtaking!
