This is a good excursion for people with young children. With teenagers or just adults it wouldn't be much fun. Our son got to pet a couple of puppies and eat a smore. He enjoyed going to the gift shop afterwards to buy a dog stuffed animal. The staff here are friendly and polite. There is a little shop for snacks and toys for the kids, there is also a place to get coffee. The staff will take photos of your children with the dogs that you can purchase for a moderate fee.

What a great excursion! Our tour guide, Clint, was extra special. He lives in Skagway and shared the history of the town and the surrounding areas. When we got to the mushers camp, there was an informative presentation about mushing and the Iditarod. After that, we got to meet and hold some 3 month old puppies and then some one month old ones. They were cute and cuddly. It was an unforgettable experience.

This excursion was everything I hoped for and more. Austin T. was an all-around terrific expert/driver/guide/assistant/comedian. He and the staff provided us an experience I'll be talking about for a very long time.

Our driver Patrick was the only highlight of our excursion. He was friendly and funny and spent the hour-ish drive to and from the camp telling interesting stories and jokes. The interaction with the puppies was limited. Isabel gave us an interesting intro about sledding and racing but was reluctant to then actually provide much interaction with the dogs. She offered one 3 month old puppy to hold and pet but claimed the other pups were too aggressive for us. She promptly handed us over to Oliver who was supposed to introduce us to the 3-4 week old puppies. Again just a very limited effort to help us interact with the animals. Oliver didn’t seem to know much about the puppies. Then we seemed to be rushed over to the s’mores and away from the dogs. There is a nice little waterfall we were directed to in order to use up the rest of our time. Overall we were just very disappointed with the staff other than Patrick, who was great.

We are sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience on our Musher's Camp and S'more Roasting tour. The puppy time should consist of approximately 15-20 minutes of interaction, so we apologize for your time being cut short. However, we will pass on the positive review to Patrick. If you would like to discuss your experience further, feel free to contact our office directly. Thank you for your feedback.

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah..nice scenery and yummy s’mores and all, but sled dog puppies y’all!! We loved on dem puppies, and I still want the lil black one below!! I would love to see it when grown! A big “thank you!!” to our great tour guide, Austin T. Funny and informative, he made us feel welcome, comfortable, and is very personable. Later, he dropped us right back at the Soltice, which was so handy. It’s important to look for a tour that will do that for visitors, as paying for shuttles is no fun. On another note, the young lady who was at the pier to collect the visitors initially (then turn them over to a tour guide), wasn’t very friendly and was quite engrossed in her phone instead of collecting and engaging the pre-paid visitors. I’m glad she was not a tour guide. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the mushers camp!! All ages will enjoy this excursion.

We were at first disappointed that we could not do the sled ride and had to book for this tour. However, I think we probably had the best experience ever.
We were picked up from the cruise ship and our guide was an extremely knowledgeable young man who had great stories to tell about his life in Skagway and with the sled dogs. You could tell he had a passion for the dogs, it oused from every pore in his body.
When we arrived at camp after a glorious drive through the most spectacular landscape, we went off to create our delights around the bonfire. We had biscuits, chocolate and marsh mellows to create a camping feast and there was a lot of it, too sweet for me mind (Diabetic).
We then had a talk from an Iditarod musher and he explained how they liked to socialise the dogs, the race etc, it was very interesting to hear.
As we were not sleding we had oodles of time playing with the puppies who were just sooooo adorable. Mummy dogs were a delight and liked a cuddle too. We spent time with the juvenile dogs who had loads of energy and loved a good old scratch behind the ears. It was a delight to have so much time interacting with the dogs themselves. We have four dogs at home so we were made up with this.
On the way back to the jeep we walked along the river and found a bear paw print and bear poo, all terribly exciting.
The weather was brilliant, the valley we were in was out of this world and we loved every second of this.

We have two little ones age 4 and 7 so we opted for the experience that allowed them to see puppies and roast some s’mores. The guide who picked us up was awesome (can’t remember her name but she splits her time between Skagway and and Arizona). She pointed out interesting sights along the drive out and back. She also stopped so we could take pics along the way. At the camp we got to meet someone who competed in the Iditarod and was able to give first hand knowledge of the race and mushing in general. Then we got to meet the puppies (a highlight of our trip for the kids) and finished with s’mores roasting. Overall a great experience and one I would recommend if your looking for a relaxing experience that includes puppies and chocolate.

So the brochure photo is really unfair. A puppy...really?! Hooked us from the git-go. Anyway, we were picked up by Tim and took the very scenic (back massaging in some parts) road out to the mushers camp. I swear people are going to think we just grabbed postcards and took pictures. The scenery itself was worth the trip. and we haven't gotten to the puppies and s'mores. We joined a tour with a musher explaining the race and the care of the animals and then were taken over to the...puppy area?!...maternity pens?!...puppy place and got plenty of time with the little puppies. What's really cool is this is part of their training so you feel like you are helping too. After puppy time, we were taken to a campfire and given s'mores kits and were allowed to basically get the best sugar high you possibly could. Although the tour was only 2-3 hours long, it was well worth it and according to my 11 year old puppy fanatic, was the highlight of the cruise. Tim was an outstanding guide and gave us a ton of insight into the area and made us feel at home right from the start. I would highly recommend this excursion for families (even those with small children) as they really do a great job of accommodating those with special needs and moving at their own pace.

Holy moly! Those puppies were to die for!!! They were so cute! And was it Ben or Chris? Either way they were super knowledgeable and gave us such a great tour! That bear joke on the ride over!! Haha! Thank you to Rachel for pointing us over hear when we got off the ship. Give her a raise! Loved dogwarts!

Hello- I'm disappointed. I was hoping to book for Friday, 6/5, which is when my cruise ship will be porting in Skagway. On your calendar, it appears this tour is not available on Fridays. I just wanted to double check with you, is it truly unavailable?
How far is the ride from the cruise port to where the excursion is (musher camp)?

No, but the same camp provides different versions of the tours. Ours was just petting puppies and making smores and hearing a musher talk about the race, care and feeding of the animals and a Q&A
