- 1Alaska Sled Dogs & Musher's CampStop: 3 hoursYour journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Musher’s Camp™ in Dyea. Next, hop into our specialized unimog for an exciting ride up our rugged mountain road, surrounded by glacially fed streams and waterfalls. At the top, your musher will greet you with a custom-designed wheeled summertime sled and a team of very excited Alaskan Huskies! Feel the power of these strong dogs as they whisk you down a mile-long, zig-zagging trail deep in the Tongass National Rainforest! After meeting your dog team, climb back into your unimog and enjoy the adventurous ride to a breathtaking overlook of the Dyea tidal flats. Depending on the month you just might see eagles, bears, seals, horseback riders, wild flowers, and of course snow-capped mountains. Your unimog will then bring you to what we like to call a “Kennel Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time we have gathered up the most frequently ask questions about the sport. In the Kennel Talk, we will share the fascinating answers and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to play with our puppies! Your affections actually socialize these future athletes, which is essential to their racing success. A crackling fire and a unique gift shop round out your visit. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting!Read more

What an amazing time. The trip to get to the camp is not for the faint of heart, it's a pretty rough climb but it is worth it. Our guide was so interesting, and the time spent with the dogs was incredible. Don't call them purebreds...lol.. Alaskan huskies are mutts but the friendliest dogs in the world. Ending the day with puppy kisses cannot be beaten.

All phases of the tour were done exceptionally well. The staff were great, but the energetic loving dogs were the highlight

Our family chose this for the one excursion we would go on together while on our cruise. Our group included a 1 year old, 8 year old, and 6 adults (ages about 25, 27, 32, 60 and 66). Everyone had a great time. The excursion included a entertaining and interesting narrated ride up to the sled dogs. We learned about the history of the area and dog sledding, saw some awesome views, and visited a cool gift shop where we later purchased pictures of our experience (including puppies). At the destination we went on a ride on the training dog sled driven by a musher and her dogs; she told us her plans to ride in the Iditarod race, what it is like to raise and train sled dogs, and the names and personalities of all her dogs pulling us. When we stopped she introduced us to all her dogs and let us pet them and take pictures with them. Next we heard from one of the other mushers about his experience running the Iditarod. I knew it was a challenging experience but had no idea about just how dangerous the race is. And then, we got to meet and snuggle with lots of puppies! The ride back to our ship was also entertaining. Our guide did a great job of entertaining us while talking about the history of the area. I would definitely do this again.

Our guide Austin Taylor picked us up at our cruise ship dock. Our bus ride took about 35 minutes to arrive at the musher's dog camp. Austin was an awesome guide who provided us history of the town and of the camp itself. We then went mushing with amazing dogs, it was so much fun. We then were able to greet the dogs who were so gentle and lovable. We were then taken to pet the puppies who were about 8 weeks old, again adorable and lovable. Austin then dropped us off in the main town where we ate lunch, shopped and made our way back to the ship. An overall excellent tour in Skagway!

A fun and informative bus ride through town then through a scenic fjord followed by a ride up a steep mountain side to reach the Mushers training camp for a meet and greet with the dogs and a training sled ride . To cap it off back down to the nursery to hold the puppies, quite a nice excursion.

We went on the Sled Dog and Musher's Camp excursion. Chad, our guide, was very friendly and knowledgeable. The ride in the unimog up the hill to camp was fun, and our kids (ages 9 and 11) loved riding behind the dogs, petting the sled dogs, learning about mushing, and of course, petting the puppies.
Also beautiful scenery - saw salmon spawning and eagles at the lookout point. We would recommend.

I booked the 2 pm tour on June 27 . My ship departs at 7pm. I believe the ship will stay on Seattle time. So that would be 6 pm Alaska time. Will we be back in time?

We are taking the 10 am tour on 6/19. Do you know of any 1/2 day Yukon tours available? It seems the ones I found leave at 12:30 and we won’t be back yet. Will we be at port by 1:30??

Do the dogs actually pull a sled on wheels as opposed to a motorized ATV where they simply run in front? Thank you!

NO it is not a sled but an oversize golf cart with wheels with seats for 6

Good Afternoon,
I'm will be traveling on 7/31 and am wondering if it is just my niece who is 16 and myself that is 32, if that would cause a problem since she is not over 18? Her mother would be able to sign any waivers or liability forms as she will be on the cruise with us just on a different excursion. Thanks!

I don't think it will be a problem as there were definitely children younger than 16 when we went there.

We will be on shore on 7/31, but had booked a half day train tour in the morning. Wondering if we can do a half day sled tour in the afternoon for 6 adults and 1 8yrs old?

Sure, but as mentioned above, it really depends on when the ship is departing. If it doesn't leave Skagway til later that evening, I'd say go for it. It was a fun experience.

We are planning our trip between May 12-19. Will this tour be available then? My son is 2 years old. Will this activity be suitable?

How long does the sled dog ride last?

The you tube video states you are pulled over a one mile trail so I would expect it to be a relatively short ride with the dogs at most 15 minutes on the ride. Then you have time with the dogs and learn more about the sport and their training.
hello! I saw this Tour on Things to. do in Ketchikan.... please let me know if I can take this tour there? I´m a bit confuse since this is suppose to be. in. Skagway

Hi, we will be in Skagway on May 20th. I realized that most of the visitors are there around June, July, August and September. We are there just as summer is starting and wondering if it is a conducive time for this adventure. Is there anything we need to prepare for, weather-wise. Will it be be rainy will the terrain be navigable, and what's the average temperature this time of the year. Thanks.

We visited in August 2018 and it was very rainy so effective waterproofs are essential. Without a doubt, the trip was the hi-light of our trip to Canada and Alaska though. A really hands-on experience and lots of opportunity to be with the dogs on the sled ride. And of course, the puppies were just beautiful.
