Highlights
  • Experience the White Pass from two different perspectives on a half-day tour
  • Benefit from the insider knowledge of a guide
  • A downhill bike ride proves ideal for all fitness levels
  • Choose from a morning and afternoon departure
What to expect
  • Start by boarding the White Pass and Yukon Route railway at Skagway station—trains depart at 7:40am and 12:10pm, and it’s recommended that you arrive at least five minutes prior to departure time. The 1.5-hour, one-way trip to Fraser passes through gorgeous scenery, the same places that gold prospectors once passed through as they headed into the mountains of the Yukon. Upon arrival at Fraser station, meet bicycle guides who will go over the route back to the Alaska coast. First, take a short van ride on the Klondike Highway to the summit of White Pass, then hop on your bike for the 15-mile, downhill ride. It’s worth bringing extra layers of clothing for this portion of the tour, as temperatures can be chilly in the mountains. Enjoy views back towards the railway as you ride, with plenty of time to snap photos of the waterfalls, glaciers, mountains, and historic sites along the way, and even crossing over the United States border (don't forget your passport).  This 4.5-hour train and bike tour concludes at a centrally-located bike shop in downtown Skagway.

Stunning!
Oct 2019
Great way to see a bit of proper, beautiful Alaskan scenery. The train ride up through white pass is pretty chilled (and chilly if you go in late September / October!) and a great way to see some amazing sights and learn the history of the Klondike gold rush(es) and the Yukons.

The bike ride with Matt, Dustin and John was where this tour went from good to amazing. The scenery is amazing and the bike ride is simple enough that you really can have a good look around whilst you're descending back down into Skagway. The ride is about 15miles and we averaged around 25mph. The bikes were in very good working order so no concerns at all there. Dress warmly as it can be pretty cold at the top of the pass (it was about -1 when we got there, but then we did visit in October on the last ship of the season). Very friendly and informative guides.

A great chance to see a bit of Alaskan scenery without exerting yourself too much. Doesn't require a high level of fitness since it mostly descent with one short uphill that can be walked if problematic.

Train up and Bike back!
Jul 2019
I visited Skagway twice within the two week cruise and the first time I took the train up and biked down. The sights were outstanding and the bike ride down the hill and back to the shop was great. This was an easy ride for teenagers and up. Just one small hill to climb, but everyone waited for any people having difficulties. Their crew had patience and helped everyone.
The second time I visited Skagway I rented some bikes and went on my own around the town and up the mountain.

Great adventure!

Had safety issues
The train ride was great, but I had issues with the bike portion. My front wheel from the start was loose and I was not able to stop until about three miles into the trip due to the fear of being run into from the rear. This wouldn't be a big deal, but we were going in excess of 20 miles per hour and the front wheel kept getting worse. The whole front of the bike was shaking and quite frankly I thought I was going to end up in the hospital if I was lucky. The guides were super nice, but I would advise the bike portion for experienced riders and check your bike before you start.

A group of family and friends did the train and bike tour today. The train ride was amazing, the bike ride was a little tame for me but the elder members of the group thought it was fine. Crossing the US - Canada border on a bike was pretty cool. Our guides Atessa and Kyle were fantastic. A great run tour buy a great group of people.

Beautiful Ride
The train ride was beautiful and relaxing. The bike ride was awesome! It was mostly downhill with a very short uphill ride about half way. There is also some level road riding through town on the way back to the cycle shop at the end. If you are in moderately good shape you won’t have any problems. Well worth the trip! Thanks to Kyle and Natalie the BEST guides, we had a great time.

Exhilarating Beautiful fun!

The train ride was amazing and happily scary with breathtaking views! Love the Red Camper car in the fields! My husband and I didn’t realize we booked this tour with bikes and were pleasantly surprised! The guides were amazing with safety, friendliness and a wealth of knowledge! The waterfalls were majestic! Riding a bike down a 15 mile stretch at 25 mph is exhilarating and freeing! We loved this and this was my husbands favorite part of our cruise excursions! Will bring my grown boys next time! A MUST book!

15 mile coast to the coast

The train ride was an incredible experience that we have waited years to do, and worth the wait. The crew at Sockeye, Natalie and Christine, were awesome. They provided a very well organized and safe trip for our group ranging in experience from “I have barely ridden a bike before” to “these miles put me over 4500 for the summer” All of us felt respected and cared for.

In fact, Natalie and Christine have to be the best employees that Sockeye has to offer, so if you have the chance, request them.

Much better than a round trip on the train, this ride and bike experience comes highly recommended.

This was a wonderful trip in Alaska. We road the train in Skagway up the mountian to the Klondike gold rush area. At the top we got off the train to start our bike ride down the other side. We road our bikes from Canada to Alaska.

Not as good as prior experience
Aug 2019
We did this tour while on a cruise. We did the 12:30 option which gave us time to explore the city beforehand and so some souvenir shopping. Honestly liked the train ride more than the bike ride. Lots of history of how the White Pass railroad was built and the town of Skagway. Once we got to the Canadian Border we were whisked away in vans. Didn't get the chance to stamp my passport as I've been to do in the past. After about a 10 minute drive we reached the staging area and got ready for our ride. We were divided into a small group and six and were on our way. Made a few stops along the way for photos and such. Was thoroughly disappointed when I pointed out to our guide that the train was on the way back down and would have made for an awesome picture. Instead of waiting the two minutes for the train to be in the ideal spot she made us get on with our ride. Bikes were in decent shape.

Great 1/2 day excursion into the depths of Alaska
We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion which we booked directly with Sockeye Cycle. Adam and Melissa were fantastic guides! We went for the biking but found the train ride as or more scenic. It was a phenomenal train ride through the treacherous White Pass into the Yukon Territory. Safety was at the forefront but you need to be comfortable on a bike going steeply downhill. The bikes were top quality, as were their brakes! Very informative, both on the train and on the ride down. Remember your passport and small bills for tips. Enjoy. Skagway is small so Sockeye was easy to find. Grab lunch or a beverage pre or post trip at Skagway Brewing or Starfire Thai (next to one another) Both were excellent.
