What to expect

If you're lucky, you might see bears, sheep, goats, marmots, or other native Alaskan animals. You also pull over to take in thundering waterfalls, historic landmarks, glaciers, alpine valleys, and the 'Welcome to Alaska' sign and the Yukon sign, and visit the gold rush town of Liarsville to pan for gold in their goldfields.  Your sled dog experience includes a ride in a 4-wheeler sled pulled by the dogs. So as not to overtax the dogs, going uphill and downhill the hardworking dogs receive help from the musher. Our favorite excursion
Sep 2019
We were touring on a cruise ship and this by far was our favorite excursion. Yes it is a long drive to the mushers camp, but the scenery was stunning and our guide knowledgeable. He told us so much information about the area and the gold rush that occurred. We were a small group, and so lots of questions were asked. At the camp we got to play with the puppies and learn about the Iditarod and of course get pulled by the sled dogs. They do love to run and get so excited when it is their turn. And added bonus was the panning for gold. It is fun to try your hand at it. Bathroom facilities are primitive, so be aware of that. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it.

One of My Favorite Excursions
Jul 2019
Took my kids on this excursion, and was so happy I did. The shuttle drive was long to get there, but honestly, it was so informative, beautiful scenery along the way, the shuttle driver was knowledgeable, the dogs were excited to take us on the run, and overall impressed with the family who owns/cares for the dogs. They are their family and they take very good care of the dogs. I was concerned booking this, but when I heard them talk about how they care for their dogs (who are their family) it made me feel much better.
My kids had fun holding the puppies, going on the sled run, and seeing the landscape change.
Highly recommend this trip.

Great for adults and kids alike!

We had a fabulous time on this tour! Our guide, Jack, was very knowledable and gave us an insider's tour of the area. The mushers camp was a highlight of our trip - the kids are still talking about it. And I really appreciated the stops to take photos at the Yukon and Alaska signs. The stops also helped break up the drive for the kids. They even got a chance to stretch their legs and explore a glacier lake.

Sled Dog Adventure and Pan for Gold in the Yukon
Aug 2019
This was a long drive for my granddaughter about 2 -1/2 hour to the camp in Yukon territory with no bathroom breaks and the outhouses there were not short enough for her. But the sled dogs and puppies were her favorite and she played with two dogs tossing a rope for a long time. We rode in a small all-wheel vehicle pulled by 14 sled dogs around a lake. But her favorite was holding the small puppies in a special pen and petting them. Total time for the trip was 4-5 hours with travel time across the border and to the camp. Interesting story about the Iditarod race and the clothing worn and supply stops.

You will not be disappointed!
Jul 2019
We thought this was a really great tour and our driver could not have been better or more informative! We elected to do the tour without the sled dog ride, but was still able to go to the camp and see the sled dogs and puppies because this is also where you do gold panning. It is in a wood trough area and designed that all participants, even kids, will find a small bit of gold. Mini zip lock type bags are provided for anything you find. The ride back and forth across the Canadian Border and into the Yukon and back was also quite interesting.

Dog's seemed malnourished.

Over all the place was okay, but I felt sorry for several of the dogs the ribs and hip bones were showing a great deal for some of the dogs.

Michelle Phillip's dog kennels and training camp has remarkably high ratings. I, personally have been to the camp many many times and I have never seen any of Michelle's dogs that are malnourished or even close to it. These dogs are athletes and are incredibly health and well care for.

Overall good
Aug 2019 • Family
The van driver John was outstanding. Very informative as well as entertaining. Scenery on the ride to dog camp was beautiful. Dogs were cute. Gold panning was ok for the 9 and 12 year olds but above that it was probably not interesting enough. Lack of plumbing is an issue with kids that have never seen orsmelled an outhouse. Overall was a good experience.

My kids loved this excursion!
Jul 2019 • Family
A great excursion off the cruise ship. Easy to find the van, informative guide, stopped along the way to catch some pictures, the dog area was fun....three stations: petting newborn dogs, riding in a razr pulled by a pack of dogs, and panning for gold. Picked up some Canadian candy and drinks in the gift shop and headed home. We had enough time after to explore Skagway, which the van dropped us off right in downtown. Hope the guide enjoyed the champagne as much as we enjoyed this excursion!
