SMART buses come to all docks every 10 to 15 minutes; please jump aboard and tell the driver you’re going to Klondike Tours. There won’t be a charge for this ride. - Wander2690450 contributionsWhite pass rail, sled dogs and panning for gold.We took the White Pass, Sled Dogs, and Gold panning tour from NCL. The views on the train are amazing. You will take lots of pictures. After the train ride, we went to see the sledding dogs and play with the puppies. We also learned about the 100 mile sledding competition they have every year. We then, learned how to pan for gold. We even came home with flakes of real gold. My 5 flakes are worth $17. This was one of the best excursion we were on. Tumbleweed was the best tour guide!! So knowledgeable and so funny!! Give Tumbleweed 5 stars!!Written September 28, 2024
- eatingatthebeach0 contributionsBetter than a train tour! This was by far one of the best things we did in Alaska! Out guide, Chris, was a wealth of information, was funny and answered all questions we had. He made a perfect tour even better! I have recommended this tour to everyone. As a photographer I LOVED the photo ops and that we were not rushed at all. I will continue to recommend this tour to everyone!Written September 28, 2024
- Marti3240 contributionsgreat sceneryThe White Pass train trip was fun - the scenery was good. The train stops right by the cruise ship port, so it was easy to find. Definitely worth doing.Written September 19, 2024
- J9264QVcraigc0 contributionsTrip down History LaneInteresting tour of the town and drove up into the hills. Saw where history was made during the gold rush era. Walked through a cemetery that contains many of the 'old timers and old miners' from years gone by. Glad we signed up for the tour and got a feeling of Skagway's history.Written September 12, 2024
- Stuart0910 contributionsFamily gold-panning and sled dogs worth the visit!Several family members joined us on the gold-panning and sled dogs tour in Skagway--first time for all. Yes, the dogs were cute and excited to get harnessed up and have a short ride--also a bonus to have an Iditerod 2-year man describe the 1,100-mile trek with very little sleep and how that works with 16 sled dogs! Claim Jumpin' Jerry introduced us to the Klondike and explained how prospectors got scammed...entertaining, informative, with a great mental picture of what it would have been like. And his associate did a great job demonstrating how to get down to the gold. Be aware that the river flows too quickly to find much gold--so they bring "pay dirt" from Dawson. But it's fun anyway to find the flakes at the bottom of the pan...and now you'd know to do DIY out in the wilderness. Worth the excursion!Written August 13, 2024
- C4199WYsarahk0 contributionsAmazing tour with great guide! We had an amazing time on this tour. Chris was great and so knowledgable. We were debating between this and the train and SO GLAD we booked this because we could stop and get out and chat through each spot at our own pace. 100% would recommendWritten August 7, 2024
- Terry G0 contributionsDon’t miss this excursionThe scenery is fantastic. What a way to see the mountains & rivers in Alaska. Since we were traveling by train on Wilderness Express, I almost didn’t book this. There’s no comparison of the scenery on this versus Wilderness Express. We loved being able to walk outside of the train on a platform. Each car has its own bathroom & outdoor platform. This was the most beautiful scenery that we saw on our entire trip that included land & cruise.Written August 3, 2024
- vi0lavicki0 contributionsWorth the price compared to shipsJenifer was our tour guide. The tour in my opinion was better than the train because we got to stop a bunch of times and look at the amazing beauty of the mountains. We felt very lucky because we took a pm tour and had pretty much a private tour. It was definitely worth the money compared to the cruise ship excursions.Written July 19, 2024
- RandyHodge0 contributionsThis is a must do SkagwayI was on the fence about doing this excursion, but wow I am glad we decided to do it. The scenery is beyond compare; I cannot begin to say enough about it. We learned so much about the area, but this is all about the scenery.Written July 16, 2024
- 54jayeh0 contributionsnice train rideNice views. Neat ride on a narrow rail restored train. You can see part of the original White Pass trail taken over the mountains by early prospectors. Good narration of the history and sights along the rails. Would have liked to be able to stop to look at some sights along the way.Written July 16, 2024
- NorthStar199624779680 contributionsHistoric Alaskan townNot worth the money. Cruise ships a short walk to the little town. Costs less to buy ticket on board bus, if transport needed. This historic town depends on tourism to survive, so I do not begrudge the small portion they might receive through trip advisor, but would have rather paid directly to them.Written July 12, 2024
- Gil33c0 contributionsGreat Tour with Chris!!We experienced a fantastic trip from Klondike Tours because of our wonderful tour guide, Chris. My husband and I learned so much about the White Pass and Klondike Gold Rush. We chose this tour because it was advertised as allowing participants the opportunities to get out of the small, personal van and take photos and experience the beauty of this gorgeous part of Alaska. Chris made these opportunities even more special by his vast knowledge of the Klondike Gold Rush and his engaging, absolutely delightful storytelling style. He delighted in taking pictures of his guests and we all appreciated his efforts. Not only is Chris a fantastic tour guide , but based on our photos, he excels at photography!! We loved our trip today and my husband and I highly recommend this tour . If you are lucky enough to get Chris as your tour guide , you are in for a wonderful experience! - HappyinOntario0 contributionsLoved this White Pass Deluxe TourAbsolutely loved the White Pass Deluxe Tour from Skagway. Denise our driver and guide was very knowledgeable and lots of fun. We learned a lot and got to get off at a lot of places to get some great photos. We were looking at the Train in Skagway excursion as well but it would have cost us twice as much and you could not get off the train during the ride. While the train would have been beautiful too, we really enjoyed stopping and getting off the bus to enjoy the scenery and take lots of pictures.Written June 24, 2024
- Curious4392060 contributionsYou won’t be sorry you scheduled this tour!!!Our experience on the White Pass Deluxe Tour exceeded my expectations. Because of the inexpensive cost compared to other tours, I wasn’t expecting much. We saw many beautiful sites, had plenty of time to take photos without staying too long. Our guide, Chris, was fantastic!!! He was entertaining and informative with telling the history of Skagway and what life is like there now. There was no lull in the action! Lots of beautiful scenery and lots of humorous stories. I highly recommend this tour. Ask for Chris!!!Written June 22, 2024
- B385HJbrettm0 contributionsKlondike Bus TourWe took a bus tour with Klondike tours. Our driver, made us feel very rushed throughout. We hardly spent any time at the any of the stops we visited. The tour was supposed to be 3 hours long, we were done in 1.5 hours. The guide did not know anything about the area. No Useful information was given. She did point out where they keep the snow plows in Skagway. Would not recommend this company to ANYONE!! Go with someone reputable who knows what they are talking about and will let you explore the stops!Written June 17, 2024

We met a participant in the Iderod (sp) and his wife who gave a very interesting and informative talk as well as a demonstration of the dogs pulling the sled. We also got to hold the puppies and pet the dogs.
We were also taught how to pan for gold and got to try it. Everyone was guaranteed to find a few flakes of gold.
There is not much walking involved with this tour

The trek to arrive at the location of the sled dogs was a long ride, however, our tour guide Chris provided a lot of information and photo op stops along the way, which broke it up nicely. We were graced with a gorgeous day of weather. And….the dogs….omg. Beautiful animals! The sled dog ride was so cool. The dogs very eager to show us what they love to do. I would absolutely recommend this excursion.

We enjoyed our excursion to see and learn about sled dogs. The bus trip to and from was very scenic and we stopped numerous times for photo opportunities. Our tour guide provided various facts and information. Riding on the ATV pulled by the dogs was very cool. Michelle Philips was very welcoming and shared lots of information about racing.

A phenomenal day trip! Our friendly guide joked with all the kids, spent some individual time with us to help us get our gold panning technique down, and even took our family photo! The dog sled experience was a dream for my five year old, but be careful if you buy the treats to feed the dogs at the entrance- they are all friendly, they just get really excited for that treat!
We were lucky to see a female moose, black bear, and a cinnamon bear (a brown black-bear) on the road to and from! I definitely recommend this trip!

Jennifer, for being new, was well informed and knew all the best turnouts for picture taking. The Sled Dog Adventure was engaging. Note, the dogs do pull you in an ATV, and it bothered my friend seeing the dogs work. The dogs were enthusiastic, though, and seemed to be enjoying themselves. Would recommend

We had the best time with Nugget Barlow. His tour is detailed and fun. He was the most entertaining tour guide we have ever had. Make sure you book with your cruise ship so you don’t get left behind. Alaska is beautiful and Nugget makes it interesting with stories and historical facts! Enjoy your tour!

This excursion had it all! We were really pleased how structured it was. Started with panning for gold and seamlessly went to meeting actual participants from the Iditarod. Hooked up the dogs and watched them race around the track. Holding the puppies made the experience something our family will never forget.

We did a few excursions on our Alaskan cruise and this was by far our favorite. Max Glacier and Slim were corny and funny. But the dogs, the puppies what can I say. People have asked me my favorite moment of the trip and by far it was when Tom Brady, the puppy, fell asleep while I was holding him. I really appreciated how much we learned about what it takes to run the Iditarod and also learning about the dogs. Would highly recommend this excursion.

Paid good money for this trip. We loved the countryside part of it, but driving into where the sled dogs were, the ‘adventure’ went downhill after that. The dogs are attached to a motorised dune buggy. The animals don’t pull the vehicle, they could not, so yep you guessed it, the buggy does all the work! Then let’s pan for gold! We expected a creek or stream, not tubs with water and the bus driver giving us a little container filled with sand and gold flake he added! Yep a rip off. One reads the blurb and gets sucked in by it. Give it a miss! Disappointed!!

I’m sorry you had so many misconceptions about alaska and our life here. Our salad dog adventure has to use a ATV in order to have steering and brakes. The digs do pull the vehicle with some minor assistance up hills due to the ruff trails. This is how all mushers train in the summer. The EPA will not allow us to pan in local streams due to the damage to salmon runs and the environment.
I do hope you read the whole explanation of the tour you are buying as well as viewing the pictures and not just the reed name of the tour and guess what it’s about.
A man told me once people hear what they want don’t hear what they don’t want and make up the rest.

We were touring on a cruise ship and this by far was our favorite excursion. Yes it is a long drive to the mushers camp, but the scenery was stunning and our guide knowledgeable. He told us so much information about the area and the gold rush that occurred. We were a small group, and so lots of questions were asked. At the camp we got to play with the puppies and learn about the Iditarod and of course get pulled by the sled dogs. They do love to run and get so excited when it is their turn. And added bonus was the panning for gold. It is fun to try your hand at it. Bathroom facilities are primitive, so be aware of that. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it.

Hi there, wanting to book while our cruise is in port early June. I see the $139 vs. $92 option. Is the only difference that the less expensive option does not include the 20 minute sled ride? If that option is chosen, what does that person do while the others are on the ride? Is it possible to spend more time with the puppies during this time? Thank you! Looking forward to our visit!

Hi, We got back at around 2pm from memory We asked to be dropped off in the town as I had planned to see a brothel show or go to a bar but as it was after my usual lunch time we went to a good Mexican food place instead

Is it true the ATV is motorized and does more of the "sled" pulling than the actual dogs?? Is that what "So as not to overtax the dogs, going uphill and downhill the hardworking dogs receive help from the musher." really means?
Written July 31, 2019
Going up hill the driver put it in drive, otherwise it was in neutral. It’s about a 1.5 mile loop that they do. My 5 kids had a blast....ages 19-9.

Is there a way to combine this tour,so we come back on the white pass train? The cruise line offers something like that, but you don’t get pulled by the dogs, you just watch a show and we want to get the full dogsled experience!!
Written July 19, 2019
no. the white pass railroad is a long ride. you can't combine it

where do you see the dogs and pan for gold?
Written June 21, 2019
you indeed go into the Yukon, as you go through Canadian Customs. bring your passport (or visa for those that have one)...you go to the end of Summit lake, which is the start of the Yukon river. you pan for gold at the camp. not at some river like the orignial miners. you learn how to do it, and you will find small flakes, no nuggets.
