- Pinacolada40 contributionsBeautiful Fox Island, Adventurous Kayaking and Exciting Resurrection Bay Cruise ComboExcellent tour. First, we headed to Fox Island where we prep for a kayak adventure. After kayaking we had a nice lunch at Fox Island then we got on the boat for the cruise. The activity is very well organized, and the crew is very helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. We got lucky and saw humpback whales, sea lions, exotic birds and more. I have to mention that the boat crew baked some cookies that my mouth still waters just from the sweet memory. Thanks to the crew and the boat captain for the good memories, the passenger's safety rules and the respect for wildlife.Written November 28, 2024

- WilliamB22580 contributionsUnforgettable Marine Tour in Seward, AlaskaMy final stop in Alaska was in Seward, where I embarked on a marine tour from Resurrection Bay to visit a glacier. This tour was an incredible experience, offering sightings of bald eagles, sea otters, sea lions, and even a humpback whale. Our guides and boat captain did a fantastic job ensuring we had ample opportunities to see all these amazing sites. The journey through Resurrection Bay was breathtaking, with stunning views of coastal forests, dramatic landscapes, and sightings of mountain goats along the rugged coastline. We also saw eagles, cormorants, and puffins. Our boat captain made frequent stops, allowing us to marvel at these sights and capture some fantastic photos. While the glacier was our main goal, the ride through the bay was filled with so much beauty that it felt like a highlight in itself. Once we reached open sea, we made our way to Aialik Bay. Fortunately, we had good weather and calm seas, making this part of the trip very comfortable, especially inside the cozy cabin. Entering Aialik Bay, we were greeted by majestic mountains reflecting off the water. Aialik Glacier, part of the Kenai Fjords National Park and fed by the Harding Icefield, was an awe-inspiring sight. We drifted slowly towards the glacier through ice fields, with otters swimming and sea lions lounging on the ice. This was a dinner cruise, and while the food was good, it wasn't particularly special, possibly because we were there during lunch. However, the crew added a fun twist by bringing aboard some ice from the glacier, which we got to hold. Other ice chunks were used to make Glacier Margaritas, which was a fun and unique experience. Overall, the tour was incredibly enjoyable, offering stunning natural views, abundant wildlife, and a pleasant lunch. The staff were all helpful and provided a great experience.Written October 3, 2024
- qwertyuiop7860 contributionsBest boat ridesVery good boat ride and Captain was very experienced. The weather was bad and the sea was rough, so captain took a good safety call and decided to cut short the tour. The tour company was generous enough to provide refunds since we only did 1/3rd of the national parks tour. Would love to visit again during summer!Written September 26, 2024
- Italy900400 contributionsDo not miss thisStaff is just wonderful. There was a spotting of a humped back whale from a passenger and the captain turned around to find it. They answered so many questions and made it a super worthwhile experience. The locations we visited were breathtaking and gave enough time for photos, questions and overall enjoyment. Also, for those who do not have good sea legs, the boat ride was very smooth with little to no turbulence. It was overall amazing! At first were doubtful that spending the money would be a worthwhile value but there was no doubt after our tour that our trip to Seward, AK would not have been complete without this tour.Written September 24, 2024
- FirstTime2DC0 contributionsGreat day! Blue skies on the high seas!Capt. Tami (?) did a great job as a tour guide, impassioned about the rock and glaciers and animals and sea. She was able to tell side stories that made it interesting (like about Mary's Rock and others). Staff was also very accommodating, engaging, and helpful! Great team!Written September 24, 2024
- elysenicholls0 contributionsSuper Amazing Views! This was an amazing experience. The check in and boarding were super smooth, and the food was much better than anticipated. There was a storm front rolling in so we left a bit early to try and beat it. Unfortunately, we got caught in it, and for safeties sake, the captain made the call to turn around early. However, she brought us back into Resurrection Bay where it was more protected and gave us a detailed and close up tour of the bay to make up for not being able to leave due to circumstances out of our control. The crew fished up a jelly fish, we got to see plenty of animals, and we got an up close view of the mountainsidesWritten September 23, 2024

- Keith S0 contributionsGlacier and Wildlife6-hour trip provided an excellent up-close and personal view of Resurrection Bay and especially an area glacier, with sufficient time spent at the glacier to fully appreciate. It was also a great view in to local Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea otters, mountain goats, sea lions, seals, and humpback whales. Ship's captain did an excellent job of not just identifying the wildlife but also jockeying the boat so that everyone, on both sides, was able to clearly view the animals. On several occasions this involved turning the boat around and returning for a better view.Written September 18, 2024

5 stars for the experience; we saw a humpback whale, tons of sea lions, birds, awesome landscapes including glaciers and a sea lion rookery. Really awesome, totally should do it... but on a weekday/ less busy day or after the pandemic subsides.
-3 stars for the experience among COVID19. The company doesn't even recommend, let alone require, masks onboard. That resulted in ~20% total of travelers wearing masks on a VERY packed boat plus one employee never having a mask on. A couple travelers were sick, coughing a ton, still with no mask on. The company said they filled the boat to 50% capacity, but that's still less than 3 feet of distance between people in certain areas while stopping at viewpoints. The boat has an outdoor and indoor part. While the boat is moving, the outdoor deck is fine. The air is moving and very cold so people mostly stay indoors. But indoors, people are packed like sardines. When the boat isn't moving (at a viewpoint) everyone goes on the deck and it's extremely packed. I went on a sunny Saturday and really wished I picked a weekday with cloudy forecast.
TLDR: Definitely go but be 100% sure the boat isn't packed (call them and ask for their less booked day) or go post-pandemic.

Saw orcas, humpbacks, puffins and otters. The weather was frightful and the seas choppy in between crossings but our captain made the experience fun, including playing the theme song from "The Deadliest Catch" (Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi) during the choppy waves. I had a blast!

We booked this tour through Princess Cruises and we left Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge at 8:30 a.m. to travel to Seward for the tour. I was hesitant to book the tour because it was described as a 10-hour tour, including the travel time to and from Seward. Do not hesitate! Book this tour as it was one of the most amazing experiences of the Off the Beaten Path Cruise Tour! Our tour was on the Alaskan Explorer. The weather was mild and overcast when the cruise departed at 11:30 a.m. The seas were calm. We were warned by our bus driver that we should consider taking some precautions for sea sickness for this cruise, and we did, but it was not necessary. The Alaskan Explorer had a large inside cabin with a bar, tables and seating and also seating outside. We chose seating outside as we did not want to miss any wild life. We saw puffins, murres, sea lions, a sea otter, Dahl sheep and about 15-20 whales bubble net feeding! It was an amazing experience! To quote our Captain Laura, "this is a National Geographic Experience" ... "I do not know how we can top that!" A box lunch was provided. It was not great, but it did not matter. There was a full bar and Glacieritas were made with Glacier Ice. As we got further into the Park, it became colder and colder, but we remained on deck until the last hour of the cruise when we went inside to warm up as the boat headed back to the dock in Seward. We took lots of layers and we kept adding them as we traveled into the park. It was a really long day. We arrived back at our lodge at 7:10 p.m., so it was almost 11 hours since we boarded the bus at 8:15 a.m. that morning. This tour is a MUST DO! I can't say enough good things about it! The crew was very friendly and offered to take photos.

This is the best company to travel with, as they have plenty of room (looked like the only boat with a full 360 degree walk-around) for everyone to see the National Park clearly.
We could not have picked a better day (beginning of May) to take this trip. The winds were fairly reasonable (9-12 mph out of the West), so at times the water was more rough than desired (Dramamine is a must if you have motion-sickness). The boat crew was incredible at pointing out wildlife and providing information regarding the history surrounding Seward and the Kenai Fjords National Park. Bring multiple layers of clothes, gloves, boots, rain gear, and cash (they sell warm drinks and alcohol on board). Lunch was a chicken wrap, chips, and a granola bar. Three bathrooms located at the back of the boat (I recommend using them at the beginning of the trip). We saw almost every wildlife possible (didn’t see Puffins or Killer Whales). Overall, I would highly recommend this trip to anyone considering exploring this national park.

Nice boat trip. I was surprised at the distance covered during the trip, even though I knew it was many hours. We covered a very large/long distance, which was at times very rough with rain, and many people got seasick. Beautiful park and area, but be prepared for the lengthy trip. We did see a bald eagle while leaving the harbor, and many orcas a short distance out (and again when returning). One even breeched right next to the boat!
We also saw one humpback whale, many sea lions and seals. But our captain didn't point out puffins, which I was hoping to see, and likely did, but I wasn't sure. Some friends of ours were on another boat at the same time and saw many which were pointed out to them. Lunch was basic...flour tortilla wraps with either black beans or chicken, nature valley granola bars, a bag of potato chips, and an Andes mint. there were extra wraps at the bar. You had to purchase your own drinks, which included alcohol (I wouldn't recommend if you get sick,) packets of hot chocolate or cider which you add your own hot water to at the coffee station, coffee, sodas, etc.
We enjoyed most of our trip outside, but when we wanted to come inside, people had saved or taken up all of the inside seating and we had a very difficult time finding a place to sit inside. So even though they advertise their indoor, heated cabin, there didn't seem to be enough seats for everyone indoors. We had originally booked the trip that included the dinner on Fox Island, but I am glad that we changed it to this cruise which returned around 5:30.

Had a fantastic time!! Starting with Beth at the customer service to our captain on board, Eric, everyone were friendly. Beth helped us cancel our tour for a full refund on the day we were booked due to bad weather and also gave coupons to the nearby aquarium to spend our day. She also made sure to book us on the same tour the next day as there were seats available.
The cruise itself was phenomenal. We had a great captain who stopped at all the right spots and waited patiently for the wildlife to show up and educated us the entire 6hrs! Vegetarian wrap and cookie they gave for lunch was also very good. There were patches of rough weather and we were ok but there were a few who got sick on the boat. So if you are prone to seasickness and the seas happen to be rough when you travel, you may want to be prepared.. Otherwise, it's a must do in Seward.

This was one of the tours that I would recommend to anyone going to Alaska. The ship was very comfortable and clean, crews were helpful and the captain was wonderful. She kept finding the animals to look at, slowing down, moving around, narrating us what and where to look.... we got to see a lot of them: whales, dall's porpoise, sea lions, otters, puffins, orcas, eagles, black bear and goats on the land, too. And the glacier. She picked Holgate Glacier for the day.
Weather was rather rough - raining and windy, but it was still fun. I had very brief period of sea sickness after going up front to see something. Stay in back if you have a tendency to get sea sickness. (The captain told us, too.) Lunch and snacks in between viewing were great. It didn't feel like 6 hours. Passed by so quick.
We parked our car at their designated parking lot about 5 min walk (or use shuttle provided). It was very convenient.

Nice 6 hour tour.
The boat ride was nice in the bays, however rougher open water contributed to at least 7 passengers being sea sick. Also the weather was cooler and misty all day, so bring warm clothes. The Captain did great in finding sea life: Whales, Orca, Sea Lion Puffin and Dolphin, no land creatures this trip. Which was nice, now I do not have to go on a puffin or whale tour. Also I suggest bringing your own food.
My only negative was the FOOD, probably the WORST I've had offered on excursions. A tasteless, store bought tortilla and chicken wrap. so dry. For a trip costing $220 a person, (tax, fees and extra gas surcharge) I expected better.
Oh, if you expecting to see a lot of glaciers, this is not the trip for you. We saw 1 main site with 2 to its left and that's all.
This was a 1 and done trip, no repeat needed.

I have probably done 12 of these cruises over the last 20 years and this Kenai Fjord’s Tours trip was by far the most disappointing. The morning weather in Seward was beautiful. It wasn’t until we were on the boat in the harbor that the captain mentioned the potential for 8-10 foot waves in the gulf. Never have I been on this trip when the captain required everyone to be seated and the crew handed out sick bags. I personally didn’t get sick, but many were either sick or laying with their eyes closed. I think very few actually enjoyed their day. I believe that in an attempt to beat the weather, the captain wanted to get out as quickly as possible. We drove right past otters without so much as a mention or a slow down. Unfortunately, we saw very little wildlife on the way back in. They should have offered a free cancellation or considered a shorter length trip staying in the bay. This was offered in the past. Not sure if it’s the change in ownership, but all in all, a bad decision. We will go with a different company next time.

You can pick your nose anytime you want but you cannot always pick the captain and crew of your tour boat. If you could, Captain Chris should be it. People in this area pay good $$$ to see and learn more about their favorite marine animals. Captain Chris gave us a 5+ hour tour jammed packed with a completed all- star checklist: Orcas, humpbacks, grays, porpoises, puffins, murres, cormorants, kittiwakes, seals, sea lions, and sea otters. All of this beautifully topped with some close-up views of a few glaciers. An incredible tour. Easily six stars.

I believe there are a number of cruises offered on different boats every day. You can walk from the train depot to the marina where the cruise boats are. All very easy. Seward is a smallish city and we were able to literally walk from one end to the other in an afternoon. And the beach walk is lovely.
