We booked this tour months in advance, expecting to be able to see just Kilauea as an active volcano, but to our surprise and excitement, Mauna Loa erupted just before our trip. We were picked up at our hotel on time by Dreu who is an enthusiastic, engaging, informative and friendly guide. From the time we got in the very comfortable van until we were dropped off 13 hours later, he was a fount of knowledge- history, lore, culture, geology, and just fun.
We learned a tremedous amount and really enjoyed the different stops. The coffee farm was interesting, and Dreu sharing his personal experiences in picking coffee beans in a previous job just added to that! Black sand beach was windy but beautiful and there were 11 honu sunning on the rocks!
Volcano National Park is always amazing and he took us to a number of stops there- lava tube, overlooks, craters, hornitos. We even went back after dinner to see if Kilauea was "glowing". The piece de resistance however was Mauna Loa. Dreu was able to get us to areas where we could (safely and legally) see the lava spout and flows. Amazing! There was a full moon so stargazing was a bit limited but Dreu did point out ( using a cool laser) the stars/constellatnios and planets that were visible
We highly recommend Wasabi tours and Dreu!

I only had a few days of sightseeing on the Big Island so I knew I had to see a lot in a short amount of time. This was the only tour that I could find that included the Volcanoes National Park and star gazing, two of my must-sees on the island. We were blessed with spectacular weather and viewing conditions for both of these, which in itself made for an unforgettable trip, but also the other stops we made at the coffee farm, bakery and black sand beach were also amazing (we even saw a Honu sunning on the sand!). Of course the tour wouldn’t have been half as enjoyable without our wonderful guide Dreu, who went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic time. I don’t know where he gets the energy to talk basically non-stop throughout all 13 hours of the tour, but his humour, enthusiasm and knowledge of everything from local history and Hawaiian culture to geology and astronomy was appreciated by all. I also really appreciated as a solo traveller that he made me feel welcome and included throughout. In summary I would recommend this tour to everyone visiting the Big Island, whether you’re only here for a few days and need to see a lot fast, or staying for a while and want an introduction and crash course to the Big Island!

Aaron picked us up at 9:30 on Friday, 3/10/23, and dropped us off 13 hours later. We told him he was a fantastic tour guide, but he insisted it was our group, not him, that made it fantastic. We beg to differ!

From the time Aaron picked us up to the time he dropped us off, he took care of Husband and me and the other 11 tour members. He was a magnificent storyteller, sharing stories about places we drove past, places we stopped to explore, and people who contributed to the history & success of the Big Island, and other 3 islands. He had a mellifluous voice, and would stop anytime someone had a question. He even spelled out Hawaiian words so that anyone taking notes (like me!) could write down the Hawaiian names correctly.

We enjoyed every stop on the tour. The tour at the Coffee Farm was interesting. The lunch afterwards was delicious: teriyaki chicken on white rice with lightly fried mahi-mahi & purple sweet potatoes. We chose Guava Juice in a can for our beverage. We wish we could get it on the mainland.

We stopped for dessert at Punalu’u Bake Shop before going to Punalu’u Black Sand Beach. We didn’t get the local delicacy at the bakery, but their ice cream was thick and creamy. We didn’t see a lot of turtles at the beach, but we saw 3 in the wild surf.

Next we went to Volcanoes National Park. It was very cloudy, and we couldn’t see the eruption site lava, but Aaron took us to the site hoping the fog would clear. It didn’t. But he took us to other sites that were interesting and educational: the steam vents, the pit craters, and through a lava tube.

Dinner was good at the Lava Rock Cafe. We had our choice of entrees with salad and drink. Everyone, including us, enjoyed our meals.

We didn’t think we’d see stars, due to the fog and rain, but Aaron brought us to a location where we could see hundred and hundreds of stars. He used a laser pointer to show us constellations, individual stars, and the Milky Way. It was mesmerizing.

During the 13 hours we were together, Aaron also made sure we were hydrated, passing out water whenever it was needed. He also made sure we were warm, giving us windbreakers and then thermal jackets when the weather was windy and cold. He also made sure to let us know the time between restroom stops so we could plan accordingly.

If all of the tour guides are as accomplished as Aaron in their tour narrative and care of their tour participants, you will love this your. We loved it for all it offered - especially Aaron as our guide!

Ask for Dreu!!! 5 stars is not even enough to emphasize the fantastic experience we had. The tour alone would have been good, Dreu took it above and beyond. He was amazing — he was very knowledgeable about the Big Island and illustrated amazing stories and legends so vividly as if they were movies. To entertain 13 people for 13 hours is impressive, and he made it look easy. His humor had our tour van dying of laughter. Dreu’s passion and spiritually created such a meaningful experience through this 13 hour journey. His love and genuine care of preserving and educating on the Hawaiian culture is something that should be experienced by everyone.

The tour itself was an incredible overview of the Big Island. Mother Nature was on our side…weather was perfect throughout, delicious hot Kona coffee, spotted 2 sea turtles on a black sand beach, spotted 2 native endangered geese on Chain of Craters Road, clear views of the Volcano’s craters day and night, beautiful glowing magma (!!), and a full sky of stars and galaxy views to end the trip. Couldn’t have asked for more!

From your newest San Francisco friends, we’ll be sending people your way for a long time!

This Twilight Volcano and Stargazing Tour with Lead Guide Dreu is first class! Dreu is one of the best guides I have toured with. His knowledge of the Big Island/Hawaii's geography, history, culture, and current news can't be beat. He definitely makes the tour very captivating with his shared knowledge. Good or bad weather, he always has alternative tour options to ensure you always get a fantastic tour experience and the best vantage points Hawaii has to offer. Taking this day/evening tour with Dreu, it is clear he is very passionate about his profession, delivering an exceptional touring experience. Our small group was guided to fantastic views of the current volcanic activity (Dreu even supplied binoculars!) in the national park and stars in an isolated area of the island. In the end, I'm going to recommend Wasabi Tours to all my friends and family. I took two tours with this company and can't wait to take more. Until next time!

Originally our trip was canceled because of a failed payment, but we had no idea until we had arrived at the pickup location. Wasabi tours was so accommodating in taking payment on the phone and got us on the next bus with open seats. The manager came and personally picked us up to take us to the bus location. Our tour guide Aaron was so wonderful. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the island, history, and even the Hawaiian mythology. He was very considerate making sure we had water, snacks, even had rain jackets and regular warm jackets at night. Aside from seeing the volcano red glow at night, the stargazing might of been my favorite part.Even though is was rainy and cloudy, he made sure we got to see the stars and milk way. My fiancé and I are we’re amazed that Aaron was so knowledgeable of the stars. He was able to distinguish constellations, the stories that connected them and even knew the names of the individual stars that made them up. Overall such an incredible tour with the BEST tour guide!

Booked a private tour for our family friends group of 4. DREU hands down made our experience amazing as our super knowledgeable tour guide. He was flexible with our requests and answered every inquiry…and I mean literally!

I was craving haupia pies from McDonald’s and he made a pit stop for us when it wasn’t part of the itinerary so we could get them, even though it wasn’t in season we grabbed taro pies for the road anyways! And got one for him :)

Because our group was small and the tour was private - we had more options to cater the trip to what we fancied. Check out the photos. Request for DREU and tell them Pam, the silly McDonald’s haupia pie girl sent you ;)

This trip was hands down one of the best tours I’ve ever been on!

The narration by guide Dreu Basaldua was excellent! He had interesting facts about the Big Island landscape, culture and topography. A real wealth of knowledge. This 13 hour tour was a great way to see the entire island with a wide variety of experiences. From the smoking volcano in the day, lava tube, the black sand beach with sea turtles, to wonderful lunch and dinner, and stargazing at night with views of shooting stars and the milky way! Dreu even heard that the Kilauea was beginning to "burp lava" and took us back there after night fall. We saw a red glow from the lava which was soon gone so we were some of the few to see it. Dreu was a fun-loving guy who kept us entertained with his costume changes and van decorations. Thanks Dreu for your special attention to us for our 40th anniversary-it was a great day.

Our Tour guide Dreu was awesome and cherry. His enthusiasm, energy, humor, stories and his vast knowledge kept us captivated and entertained. He is hands down the best tour guide we ever had and we have traveled a lot. The tour was well organized with very interesting stops selected. The coffee farm was an excellent place to visit, learn and enjoy a fantastic lunch setting. We knew the lava flow was going to be great but it exceeded our expectations and was breathtaking. We definitely would recommend all to take this tour and hope they also get Dreu as their guide as they will be sure to be educated, entertained and enjoy plenty of laughs. During car rides he told us very interesting stories and legends about Hawai’i and the different gods of the island. I’m not going to spoil all of the details but you need to go on this tour and it has to be with Dreu. We loved the conch shell horn that he used to call us. Pau! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Five stars doesn’t do him justice)

This was a very enjoyable experience from beginning to end. Our tour guide/driver, Aaron, was a longtime resident of Hawaii and was able to relate a good deal of the language, history and tradition of the islands. Aaron's knowledge of the geology and fauna of the Big Island helped all of us understand the terrain we were experiencing.

The tour included stops at a Kona area coffee farm with lunch. Another stop was the black sand beach ( with petroglyphs and sea turtles) for some photo opportunities. An inital look at Kiluea Volcano reveled the numerous steam vents but no lava was apparent in the daylight. Aaron also delivered us to the Volcano House, a longtime fixture at the rim of the crater where we shopped and made more photos. A walk through the Lava Tube was followed by dinner at the Lava Rock Cafe where we had good food and service. A nightime visit back to the summit of Kiluea revealled a couple of cracks in the caldera where we could see the glow of the lava.

Finally, time to head home, but on the way we made one last stop while on the Saddle Road to do some stargazing. Aaron showed us many of the highlights of a lovely, dark sky before dropping us in front of our condo.

All four of us in our friend group were unanimous that the tour was very much worth the price and that we could not have been more pleased with Aaron. In addition to all the knowledege he shared, he was also very pleasant and accomodating.
