About
TIKAL NATIONAL PARK
It covers 575 square kilometers of jungle and thousands of structures in ruins. Only the central part of the old city contains 3,000 buildings and covers about 16 square kilometers. Tikal is also part of the Mayan Biosphere Reserve of one million hectares created in 1990 to protect the dense forests of Petén, which began to disappear at an alarming rate due to population pressures, illegal logging and agricultural practices of felling and burning. Archaeologists estimate that the Maya settled in the area now known as Tikal in approximately 900 BC.
BRIEF OVERVIEW: Yaxha is an archeological site approximately one hour from Tikal National Park and one hour from Flores. It is a place where you can enjoy nature and water, since the Park is between two lakes that can be seen from the top of some temples.

- C2172IHrafaelc0 contributionsTour dos días a Tikal desde Ciudad GuatemalaTikal expedition is great, awesome guides and drivers. They are punctual and efficient. Excellent experience. 10/10 would do it again.Written February 7, 2025
- an2nsf0 contributionsMust do in Antigua de GuatemalaTook the private city tour of Antigua and surroundings, very friendly and professional guide and driver, comfortable transportation including drinks, visiting of the local sight of various types of manufacture. Exciting and informational tour, highly recommend it!Written December 30, 2024
- Jake S0 contributionsPalenque to Flores transferI organised to go from Palenque (Mexico) to Flores (Guatemala) with this company. I had organised it at 6pm the night before I was due to leave Mexico for Guatemala and this company was responsive, well priced and super accomodating - especially for someone who was doing it all very last minute. One of the smoothest and comfortable boarder crossings I’ve ever done - my driver picked me up from my hostel and took me to the Mexican border where another person met me on the Guatemalan side. Extra bonus points for the tunes he played along the way!! Huge thanks couldn’t recommend higher.Written December 12, 2024
- CapNemo800 contributionsBest guides to discover GuatemalaWe had a custom made tour with these guys from the Belize border to visit Tikal and Yaxha in May. With little time on our hand but a desire to pack in as much as possible, the team was super helpful and accommodating. They were very responsive and flexible in their approach. The day itself was really well organised and smooth. Oliver, our guide was very knowledgeable and it was very interesting to speak with him about various aspects of Maya culture. Antonio, who was driving us around, was also always ready to pick us up with some bottles of cold water - much needed! Throughout the day, they were super friendly and accommodating. We usually skip lunch on these types of tours but trusted their choices and the food in El Remate was really nice. On top of seeing the sites, Oliver also showed us a lot of wildlife, including toucans, howler monkeys, spider monkeys etc. Look no further and use these guys for your tours in Guatemala! Gracias to both of you for your help. We will keep fond memories of our very short trip to Guatemala.Written June 19, 2024
- Janet T0 contributionsAwesome experienceOliver was an excellent guide with very good English and outstanding knowledge of the Mayan history and local flora and fauna. Transport in modern SUV with very safe driver Antonio. We had an amazing tour and would highly recommend.Written February 13, 2024
- colbyw5220 contributionsHelicopter Tour one of my best experiences with the bestThe helicopter tour that they offer is one of the best experiences. I contacted them and they kindly assisted me, answering all my concerns. The very friendly driver arrived for us. We arrived at the exit ramp where they gave us instructions on what to do and what not to do in that place. Flying over the Mayan biosphere, seeing other Mayan cities from the air becomes an incredible experience, even more so when you arrive and begin the walk in the middle of the jungle. Of course, always follow the trails and do not deviate from them. Our guide Ronal, a very friendly boy even though his English is not very dominant, made our tour the coolest. When I return to Guatemala I would not hesitate to return to that place with them "La Danta" 100% recommendedWritten December 15, 2023
- chriscH9165GV0 contributionsThe best adventure with the best agencyWe booked the La Danta Helicopter tour, the largest Pyramid in the Mayan World by its volume. We were a little undecided since due to our time in Flores and we spoke with Antonio for this tour and he very kindly assisted us. We were amazed by this place in the middle of the jungle, our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the area. Without a doubt highly recommendedWritten December 12, 2023
- AnzhelikaSolymar0 contributionsDon’t trust this company!!! Bad customer support and lieWe booked a helicopter ride to La Danta with a Tikal expedition company, and they provided a tour with an English speaking guide. Very polite and nice guy name Antonio assured us that there would be definitely professional knowledgeable English speaking guide with us! Next day the driver with a guide name Oliver came to us for a pick up and I noticed they dressed too nicely on a white close for this ~4 hours jungle dirty hike to the La Danta, but I can’t imagine that the guide wouldn’t go with us . So, they dropped us near airport and said that guide would wait us in El Mirador(La Danta), but there was no English speaking guide when we arrived! The guide speaks Only Spanish! The guide was only spending time with the a Guatemalan family. The family were better tour guides then the real tour guides. Then something crazy happened, my husband was bitten by a lot of poison fire ants and he had an allergic reaction, so we hurry up go back to the Flores. We thought that helicopter company policy need to have a first aid kit in a case, but they doesn’t have any medication. When we arrived back to the Helicopter landing pad our guide Oliver and driver Antonio waited for us, we asked them what’s happened with our English Speaking Guide, why did they lie to us about it? They said : Ohh, the helicopter was full and there was no seat to fly with you guys. I can tell you a history on our way back That they planed this ride and they didn’t know that there would be no space for a guide. Whaaat? Is this our problem, That there were no seat for a guide? He want to tell us all about El Mirador in a 10min ??? By the way I talked to them on the phone day before about an English speaking guide, that my Husband has a Birthday and he loves to learn a history of El Mirador La Danta in general etc.. The helicopter ride price 550$ per person, included lunch and bilingual Guide, with a 7 person seats helicopter. El Mirador amazing !!! Must to see, but with your Guide to understand a history! With a Tikal Expedition we have a bad experience. Advice: Better to book a flight throw a Tag Airlines heliocopter company direct ! Definitely they are more Responsable, Honest and less priceWritten December 12, 2023
- N8631GXjoeh0 contributionsAmazing Guatemalan experienceI highly recommend Tikal Expeditions. We did both the Blue Crater and the Tikal tour with them. Our guide was super friendly, knowledgeable, and spoke English quite well.Written November 10, 2023
- N8631GXjoeh0 contributionsFantastic tour and guides! An excellent tour! My son and I stayed in Tikal at the Jungle Lodge. Tikal Expedition picked us up directly from there with a driver and tour guide. They drove us from there to the river while explaining various aspects of the area. When we arrived at the river, the driver stayed with the vehicle and the guide accompanied us on the river ride. Snorkeling at the Blue Crater was super fun and amazing. Highly recommend this excellent company!Written November 10, 2023

- Mellanie12280 contributionsExcellent Private Tour of TikalI took a private tour of Tikal with Oliver. It was a fantastic experience! From to pick up to drop off, they took care of everything. We saw a large variety of flora and fauna and visited the historic and impressive ancient Mayan ruins. Oliver provided expert knowledge on Mayan history and also identified many jungle animals and birds. Highly recommend!Written October 8, 2023
- florenceMinnesota0 contributionsOur Tikal AdventureWe stayed in the Jungle Lodge for our visit to Tikal National Park. We debated as to taking the sunrise or sunset tours. With the heat decided to do the sunrise. So I want to say first off, it is amazing walking in the dark, listening to the animals and making your way to Temple IV. It was cooler but I really didn't need to wear pants and it warms up quickly. We hired a guide thru the Jungle Lodge and started walking at 4am. Now my disclaimer, I am in my 60's and perhaps it was just this guide but most of the walk in to the park is uphill and let me tell you he was fast. about half way I decided to quit keeping up as I am not sure what the hurry was. Talking with other group members later, comments were also made as the the fast pace. We had plenty of time to get to the temple, so I am at a loss as to why we were practically running. whatever, guide was just ok. Once you walk up the many steps to the temple you sit in silence waiting for the sun to come up and the birds to wake up. it is a beautiful experience even if the mists do blow in and you do not see Temples 1 & II. So here is my take; save yourself the extra park ticket and guide cost. Wait until after the 6am opening and walk to the Temple on your own. By 8am it was empty of people and the mists had burned off. I got the shot I wanted and it was simply breathtaking. Alos, if you do the tour, get out whatever you need before sitting down, it is deathly quiet. This of course is all my opinion and subjective.Written March 5, 2023
- laurenr30170 contributions100/100Wow! What an incredible experience. Tikal Expedition was phenomenal, from the initial inquiry about their services to the tour itself. Antonio (Nio) and I chatted via Whatsapp about their services, he gave me prices and expectations and was always pleasant and cordial. We agreed on the meet up spot at the I Love Peten sign in Flores (because Flores was closed down due to the Feria Departamental de Peten (Peten State Fair). He and our tour guide Mr. Oliver patiently waited for us at the sign. We were picked up in a clean and safe vehicle. Mr. Oliver is well knowledgeable and versed in Guatemalan sights, flora and fauna, and of course, Mayan history. We arrived to Tikal, ate some lunch at one of the restaurants. We climbed the incredible pyramids and temples and learned about the various plants and animals that live there. Mr. Oliver ushered us to our sunset spot right on time! Be sure to take this moment in in silence, as one of the other tour guides asked kindly of all the patrons. This was an incredibly unforgettable experience and the Tikal Expedition team made it happen! We were safely taken back to Flores. Can't wait to come back with Tikal Expedition for the Mirador Tour! 100% will book again!Written January 21, 2023
- elisafrey900 contributionsA beautiful experienceThe sunset tour was fantastic and the two guides are exceptionally friendly! We learned a lot about the Maya and the temples and pyramids and enjoyed every moment of the tour. Absolutely recommended!Written December 7, 2022

It was an amazing experience with all the team. We had to try twice to finally enjoy Tikal and Yaxha because a stroke was happening in Guatemala. The owner, guides and driver were the most kind ones trying to keep us safe, happy and full of excitement to try to go to Tikal next day early morning (4 am 😅) to avoid the stroke if it continued. And WE DID IT!! My friend and I enjoyed every second and we laugh and learn with Tito, Condorito and Henry. I really recommend this company, because they really are worried about the tourist with every single detail.
Thank you guys!
