The guide we had was just a huge knowledge base of information- you really have to be open to this documentary style history lesson on the music of New Orleans. It was like taking an education class in music history. I can’t express enough on how passionate our tour guide was about music and what a privilege it was to have someone with such real knowledge.
I highly recommend booking a show at Preservation Hall after this tour as that’s where it ends. You have enough time for a drink before going into the early show.
Another point to be aware of is that this is a walking tour and for those that are not in shape, stick to bus tours. The tour we joined was just 4 people and the guide, so we were moving fast to get to all the points of interest. Good walking shoes is a must!

Although our experience started out a little rocky due to miscommunication between Trip Advisor and Historic New Orleans Tours, we had an excellent experience. The tour representative, Robert, was very accommodating and rescheduled the tour for the next day, insuring we had a very memorable experience. Our tour guide, David, was so knowledgeable and entertaining and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. Thank you, Robert and David for one of the highlights to our visit to New Orleans.

David Higgins is one of the best tour guides I've ever had. He knew the history backward and forwards and had a real understanding of the music and its relationship to this unique city. He brought music along to play with a Bose speaker around his neck, and he played keyboards to demonstrate the evolution of music. I'd recommend this tour to anyone!

Ridiculous. Started out by them sending us to a starting point that as an abandoned building and the guide showing up late. Then it went downhill. The tour guide just rambled for 2 hours. He has decided that ALL music for the last 200 years, and I mean ALL, is derived from African slave music from New Orleans. No joke. Even classical music that clearly took inspiration from Europe. In addition, I feel there must be some issue w his licensing, as every time we passed another tour group, he made a point of hiding his official tour guide id. I really should have just walked away after 30 min. It didn't get better. Don't waste your time or money. 50% of his talk was " have you heard of _______?" With weird obscure artists. I literally said at the end "there's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back". Horrible tour.

We booked this tour with my friend the day before, without really knowing what to expect, and we ended up having the best experience ever! David Higgins was our guide and he was just fantastic! He told us about New Orleans' history for two hours and we were just captivated. He's passionate and always had very interesting comments about everything, not only music. We didn't regret a single minute of this tour and I would recommand it to anyone who wants to learn about music and spend a captivating moment.
Thank you!

The guide, Rob, is extremely knowledgeable about the history of music in NOLA. He played examples of the music he was talking about as we went through the tour which really crystallized the info for us. One of the best tours I’ve been on.
