Our tour guide, Trisha, was fantastic! I’ve been to the city before and it was interesting learning all the little rod bits I wasn’t aware of beforehand. I loved how informative and personable our guide was, she took the time to get to know us and answer all our questions. The tour was beautiful and even though St. Louis 1 is closed due to Covid, it was still an amazing experience. If you haven’t taken one of these before, do it! And ask for Trisha!

1 hour long tour, very interesting, a guide knows a lot of the details you might miss on your own, You can't visit this one on your own, there are other old cemeteries that could be visited on your own, you cannot leave the guide.

The cemetery itself is fascinating - the architecture, the history, the unusual way it's laid out. Our tour guide was very informative and humorous at the same time (not in a corny way). My favorite thing was to see the grave of civil rights pioneer Homer Plessy.

For those who saw the movie, Easy Rider, the final scene in the cemetery was shot at St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. It was because of this very R rated scene, only approved documentaries can new be filmed here, and you also must be part of a guided tour. Nicholas Cage has his tomb here when his time comes, and there are other famous individuals who also have this cemetery as their final resting place. St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. should definitely be on your list of places to visit when you visit New Orleans.

We were unsure about taking a cemetery tour, and booked at the last minute, but so glad we did! The value is not so much in looking at tombs, but in all the stories and history behind many of them and New Orleans in general.

My wife and I did this tour together without the kids and we got John as our tour guide. He was absolutely phenomenal, very passionate about what he was doing and extremely knowledgeable. The historical perspective on the whole thing was fantastic and I would recommend to everyone I know.

This is a great tour that provides lots of interesting history about burial practices in New Orleans at a good price. John was an excellent tour guide - very knowledgeable about the history of the cemetery and excited to share all kinds of tidbits with us. I'd highly recommend this tour if you are in the area.

John was our guide and was very knowledgeable about history of the cemetery and NOLA in general. His sincere interest in the subject matter and respect for the fact that is is a cemetery was evident. It is also clear that he just loves NOLA in general and loves sharing the city with tourists. If you like history, you'll like this tour.

Since we were there in January and it is now October, what I remember is that we met in the French Quarter and walked to the cemetery. At the cemetery itself we spent about 45-60 minutes. It was one of the highlights of our trip, and our guide did a great job sharing the history about the cemetery as well telling some great stories including the filming of the final scene of the movie, Easy Rider.

Is there parking at the visitor center?

Yes there is a lot of parking at the visitor center. It costs some depending on how long you stay. The visitor center also has a nice little museum and gift shop. Wish we would have found this place before we started exploring New Orleans. They have lots of information and books to help make your stay even better. We had a great time.

We might have to bring my daughter’s two children, age 4 and 10, that we did not plan. Would it be too scary for the little one?

This tour is not scarey at all! It is very educational. There are rules about touching things and staying on the path so the kids may not enjoy this tour as well as others. We enjoyed it very much.

Do you have any Spanish speaking guides?

I really don't know. I only speak English & I didn't notice anyone with a guide in the cemetery speaking any foreign languages. I would assume that you can find a tour company that does speak different languages.

The hubby and I are heading to Lake Como. We like to pick up local breads, meats, cheese and wine for lunch. Are there picnic areas or parks to sit and have lunch?

Not really. The entrance to the cemetery is controlled. You might find a place to sit across the street at the visitors center.
