About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- DanaKelley0 contributionsJeffrey is a gem!!The unofficial Anne Rice Tour was amazing!! It was a beautiful and informative Garden District tour with the flavor of Anne Rice sprinkled into each stop. Jeffrey was super informative, clearly well researched, and an all around fun guy to talk to. SKIP OTHER GARDEN DISTRICT TOURS AND TAKE THIS ONE INSTEAD!!Written November 8, 2023

- berndawg500 contributionsA MUST!!Fantastic!!! The four of us met Jeffrey in the Quarter for the adult strange but true tour. If you want to hear the same old stories, this is not the tour for you. If you are more interested in the lesser known stories about everything from powerful madames, uptown blue bloods, quadroon balls, and the lives of enslaved people throughout the many decades of change in New Orleans, this is the tour for you. Jeffrey knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING! Try to stump him with an obscure question. You will fail. Not only will he give you all the details, but can recommend books to learn more. Next time we are in town, we plan to do the Anne Rice Tour. It sounds just as good. Thanks for a memorable afternoon!!Written April 24, 2023
- Jholman220 contributionsBest tour guide! This was such a great tour! I had been on a tour with Jeffrey before and it was everything I wanted in a tour of a city! I knew most other guides would pale in comparison. I was so happy to get to do the Garden District Tour with Jeffrey! He is historian and master story teller. He is friendly, caring and funny. I loved seeing all the gorgeous houses and hearing the fascinating stories behind them. I highly recommendWritten July 29, 2022

- Northampton50 contributionsLee Harvey Oswald Conspiracy tourWas lucky enough to do the Oswald Conspiracy tour on my 50th birthday! Jeffrey is so passionate about the subject and his knowledge blows you away! We visited key places in New Orleans and discussed a lot of revelations. He was kind enough to gift me the book hes written on the subject for my birthday , which I've read, and it's got me back in the rabbit hole! Would recommend Jeffrey 100% even if you're just a little curious on the subject.Written November 30, 2019
- GLENN S0 contributionswow wow wow !!!!!what a great tour by Jeffrey. I have always been intrigued by all the information and conspiracy theories surrounding the Kennedy assassination ever since I was a kid. I am now 62. I noticed there was a tour about oswald and his movements in new orleans prior to him going to Dallas. In short and without going into great detail Jeffrey blew me away! Without a doubt he has spent a lot of time and has dug deep into this subject. Our whole group loved his tour ! If you have any interest in this subject go with Jeffrey he is the one, the only and the original ! Also we ran into Jeffrey several times after the tour and he gave us great advice on bars, restaurants and other things to do in the big easy. I just wish we could have done a few more of his New orleans tours, but I will make sure to put strange true tours on the list for the next visit ! Again Thank you to the TRUE NUMBER 1 tour guide in New Orleans JEFFREY and Happy Mardi Gras !Written February 26, 2019
- hjohn620 contributionsBest part of our honeymoon vacaMy husband and I loved Jeffrey! holy cow, he’s awesome! From the moment we met Jeffrey for our first tour I was hooked, and we immediately booked multiple others. He is alive with love for NOLA’s culture, food, music, art, everything. He is knowledgeable about the world in which he loves and he displays it magnificently! I love history, so we took his Kennedy/Lee Harvey Oswald tour on a whim, and it ended up being my favorite one! BOOK IT! Book as many as you can. That’s just what we did.Written January 7, 2018
- supreme-cuisine800 contributionsFantastic Tour, Exceptional GuideWe went to NOLA for an adult birthday in July. For one of our events we wanted to book a private tour of the French Quarter. After researching several companies we decided to go with Strange True Tours. The experience was beyond my expectations from the moment we first enquired about the tour through the event. Since we were going for an adult birthday we wanted to do a private tour for many reasons. Jeffrey worked with us to customize the tour to cover the topics we were most interested in as well as let us pick our start and end points. And since we were doing a private tour he setup an easy way for my guests to all register and kept me informed on who had signed up and was slacking so I could follow up. On the day of the event he showed up to our starting point early to ensure we were off to a good start. He's a great story teller, kept the guests engaged the entire tour, and answered all of our questions along the way. We covered everything from the seedy past of prostitution, the mafia, ghosts, murders, music, and all kinds of curious details about the city. He is a wealth of knowledge. We were able to stop along the way at some great hidden gem watering holes to refill the group on drinks as well. What was great about Jeffrey and the tour, beyond everything mentioned above, was that he blended general history of the city with his own personal anecdotes and first hand accounts of stories. It really gave the tour a local feeling rather than just your run of the mill commercial tour. It really added to the experience. Separately from this event we met up with Jeffrey and his wife, who also gives tours and is a historian, and they both couldn't have been nicer and more sincere people. They really added to our celebration weekend and I'm beyond pleased we went with Strange True Tours. I'd highly recommend anybody looking for a good intro to the city with a blend of fun, history, and entertaining stories to look no further. Thanks again Jeffrey!Written July 24, 2017
- Writerwife0 contributionsVery good tour of NOLAJeffery was a super nice guy who did a very good tour of the city...he catered it to our needs as a family and made it interesting for the kids. It was nice to be in a group of only 6 and they also gave us a great price for the tour. Funny, informative, and just a little scary (but we asked not too scary because of the kids) Nice tour.Written June 25, 2017

- happyholladay20150 contributionsLoved it!This was a fun and fact filled tour. We loved getting the history of the French Quarter in a small group, due to the rain we were the only people. I would have liked a few more ghost stories, but overall it was wonderful and Jeffrey even gave us suggestions and tips for the rest of our stay.Written June 6, 2017
- Kesig0 contributionsBest tour experience in NOLAJeffrey knows the city--its history, its stories, its people--and he's an articulate tale-teller. He won't book a group of more than 12, and if it's just you or you and a partner, that's fine, too. We did an evening "ghost" tour, which he tailored to the sensibilities of one of our group who was rather...sensitive. While he did talk about a few ghosts, he really focused on the reality behind the myths, the historical evidence as well as the legends. He patiently and thoroughly answered all of our questions and ended up staying with us much longer than we'd expected. The following day we passed many tour groups of 18, 20, 24 people, all straining to hear a guide deliver a memorized script. Those encounters made me really appreciate what Jeffrey had done for us. If you want a personalized, thoughtful, intelligent tour, call on Strange True tours!Written June 6, 2017
- marianz50 contributionsA Must Do Tour for New Orleans!Ditch the annoying big tour groups! We did our second tour with Jeffrey, this time we did the cemetery tour (first time was French Quarter). He's the go-to guide for learning about the intriguing history of New Orleans and having a good time!Written May 24, 2017
- Anne Z0 contributionsHighly recommended! We did the personal cemetery tour with Jeffrey, he was amazing. Very knowledgeable and entertaining, we all had a great time. It was also so much nicer to get our own personal tour after watching a huge group of people being corralled by their tour guide. We will definitely book another tour with Jeffrey when we go back.Written May 23, 2017

We were delighted with both of our tours from Strange True. We first took the “original” Strange True walking tour through the French Quarter. Jeff was extremely knowledgeable, personable, funny, and is a wonderful ambassador for New Orleans. He was sensitive to the fact that our group had an 11 year old and grandparents, and we all loved the tour. He gives clear explanations of New Orleans history and culture, tying it all back to the present day. Entertaining and edgy, we would all recommend it.
We also took the Garden District walking tour with Grey, who is a true historian and is passionate about architecture. It was an excellent counterbalance to our other tour, showing the more “refined” side of New Orleans, replete with fascinating stories spanning 200 years. One could take a self-guided tour of the Garden District, but the only way to really experience it and enjoy the details and history is with a guide like Grey.
They also run an excellent operation – easy to book, great directions, helpful email communication, they were on time, and the tour was exactly the right pace and the perfect length. Both tours were highlights of our family’s trip to New Orleans.

I just had the most amazing Lee Harvey Oswald/JFK Conspiracy Tour with Rev. Jeffrey Holmes of Strange True. His command and organization of the material is astounding. His presentation at each stop was literally thrilling as he wove the web of the conspiracy thread by thread. Oswald is but a pawn in a great and deadly game. He is almost constantly being physically observed by several people from numerous angles. As Jeffrey points out the actual windows in the buildings and who was behind those windows, its scary. The power players in New Orleans, all belonging to the same clubs and krewes, all inter-connected through social and business relations for generations come up again and again. Folks, this was masterful story telling with the actual New Orleans locations as the stage. Mr. Holmes can document his presentation and is happy to provide a “beginner’s bibliography”. He was an invited speaker in Toronto in 2011 when Judith Vary Baker, Oswald’s lover during the Summer of 1963, first went public. Unfortunately this tour is given infrequently. I hope this review will spark additional interest as I would love to take it again.

I cannot say enough nice things about Jeffery and this experience. We did a private tour yesterday morning with him and it became the highlight of our entire trip. New Orleans has so many amazing attractions and things to do and we did them all...it says a lot that this was the best experience of our trip. We did the Strange but True & Graveyard combo and learned a great deal while being thoroughly entertained. Jeffery's passion for the subject matter as well as his demeanor kept us engaged the entire time; absolutely a must do when visiting New Orleans!

Upon first visiting New Orleans in October 2011 we wanted to take an interesting tour of the city and of St Louis cemetary #1. I read about other tour companies and to be honest, they all seemed either overly theatrical or just a little cheesy for my taste. Strange True Tours offers tours with smaller groups and TRUE stories. We now have taken the cemetary tour twice and the the Strange True Stories once. All very memorable and enjoyable experience. Would take again in the future. Jeffery is awesome. He was a breath of fresh air and very knowledgable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

My family of 5 spent Christmas week in New Orleans. One of the high points was a private walking tour w/Jeffrey Holmes of Strange True Tours. His knowledge of this multi layered city was impressive and the subject content was exactly what we wanted plus he regaled us with so many colorful stories of the city. The pace was comfortable, he graciously provided umbrellas, gave us restaurant suggestions, and answered all of our questions. One of the things that really impressed me is that he is currently researching several New Orleans pieces of history which showed me that he is striving to increase his knowledge about the city and therefore providing an even better tour. As one who had never been to NOLA, I came away with a much deeper understanding of the formation/culture/and builders of the city. I highly recommend his tours. It was easy to arrange, we communicated via emai and it couldn't have been any easier.
Thank you for a delightful and informative afternoon:)

Top Notch Tour Company! All facts are well researched and presented in a manner that keeps you enthralled from beginning to end. I would highly recommend any of the tours given by Strange True..they hire only the best tour guides who can give you a TRUE account of whatever attraction you are visiting. As a former part-time resident of New Orleans I can tell you there are alot of folks out there running tours who aren't really INTO truth but the BEST STORY...you won't get that here...what you WILL get is a wonderful host, fair prices and an experience you will never forget!!!

The day before Halloween, we had a group of 3 which got a wonderfully personalized tour with Jeffrey. He is very knowledgeable, and very personable. Although there were many large tours around us, we were gifted with a smaller group, and after taking a haunted tour on Halloween night with another much larger group, I wished I had known about Strange True Tours for that one too. If people hung on the outside of Jeffrey's tour, he politely handed them a card, and invited them to hear more through Strange True Tours- a class act. The other tour we took was a little embarrassing as our guide would sternly tell people to move along, it wasn't their tour. I'm sure that is necessary...however, after the class Jeffrey showed, I was a little uncomfortable with the second guides tougher language. Jeffrey wasn't at all dramatic- he was sharp, and en point. He is an activist for the good of New Orleans, and explained what people unknowingly ruin when they desecrate tombs. He seems to be well noted in the community, and I was very pleased with our time with him. I highly recommend him, and the company. I even got a call from Jane confirming my reservation, as somehow, I had not shown up at the time I scheduled (my mistake) and she quickly offered me any replacement time that fit my schedule.

I went with my boyfriend on two of the Strange True Tours on my first visit to New Orleans. We did the "Strange New Orleans" tour in the evening and the "City of the Dead" cemetery tour the next morning. My advice would be to do these tours as soon as you arrive in the city. That way, you know the story behind what you'll be seeing for the rest of the trip. The tour is amazing. If you're a history buff, Jeffrey's well-researched expertise will definitely keep you interested. If you're not a history buff, Jeffrey's anecdotes along the way will keep you entertained.
I've been on several walking tours in different cities around the country, and what makes Strange True Tours special is the passion that the guide has for his city. I like to research the cities before I visit, and while I heard many things during the tour that were familiar, I learned some incredible new things that I doubt I would have read about in any tour guide. I laughed a lot and at times felt heavy-hearted (not all aspects of history are happy, but it's still very important to know).
After going on both tours, I feel like I made a new friend in New Orleans. I'm definitely going to go on some more tours through Strange True Tours on my next trip to New Orleans, which will hopefully be soon!
A few tips: Wear comfortable walking shoes because many of the old French Quarter streets are uneven. Wear a hat for all daytime trips in the summer. Jeffrey brought umbrellas for us to use on the cemetery tour (he is that cool!). Take a bottle of water. Jeffrey covers a lot of information in a small amount of time (about 2 hours), and a lot of it you will want to remember. You might want to bring a pen and paper to jot down book recommendations and other notes.

A group of friends and I booked "The Ghost Tour" for our trip to Nola last weekend. We honestly weren't expecting much, thought it might even be a tad bit ridiculous, but we decided to do despite our doubts! We were so lucky to get Loki as our tour guide and he was incredible. He made the two hour tour absolutely entertaining and packed with history and a couple camp fire stories. He in extremely knowledgeable about New Orleans, the history, what has happened where and also whether or not things are fact or fiction. While all the other groups were out with about 30 people, our group had just give, which made it much more personalized and entertaining! Strange True Tours is an overall excellent and easy company to work with, but best of all was Loki, definitely request him if you get to New Orleans!

I'm not one to leave reviews, but after realizing how much I read them and how imperative they are to my decision making, my new goal is to get better about writing them. So, this review is a little late (I went on two Strange True Tours in March of last year) but after taking several more tours with other companies since then, I felt like I needed to finally get around to writing a review for my favorite tour company.
My friends and I did the cemetery tour with Jeffrey Holmes (who I believe has moved to Ft. Lauderdale to open up a new Strange True Tour company out there). We were the only people on our tour (the 4 of us) so it felt like we were getting our own private tour without paying the price for one ;) We saw other groups being escorted around like cattle, and we couldn't help but feel like VIPs. Our tour was very factual and informative. Jeffrey prides his himself and his company on only presenting true information that has been meticulously researched. We enjoyed his tour so much that we signed up for the ghost tour the next night. Once again, we were the only people on the tour. We had the best time!
