Itinerary
- 1Get picked up at your hotel in New Orleans to start your combination plantation and swamp tour trip, which lasts a bit more than 6 hours. The first stop is Destrehan Plantation. Established in 1787 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Destrehan Plantation remains the oldest documented plantation home in the lower Mississippi Valley. We invite you to travel from the French and Spanish Colonial periods, through the Antebellum grandeur of the sugar barons, to the ravages of the Civil War and the rebirth of reconstruction. You will find yourself immersed in the rich history of Louisiana when French was the language, and the white gold of sugar drove the economy. Family stories of those free and enslaved set against the fabric of history will intrigue every visitor to the site.

- melissar9440 contributionsGreat company and excellent excursion!!We’ve been to New Orleans so many times and this was our first time doing a swamp tour! Absolutely the highlight of our trip! This is a must do! Bobby was so knowledgeable and clearly takes great pride in his job!Written October 11, 2024
- andreamatthews0060 contributionsAmazing experienceMy husband and our friends (all of us from New Zealand) booked the tour and all four of us agreed that it exceeded our expectations. Jason was an amazing guide, the tour was interesting, informative and he was engaging to listen to. Thanks for an amazing experience.Written October 10, 2024
- Ronald M0 contributionsGreat adventureWe tried an airboat tour as this was the first time our three teenagers had been with us to the New Orleans area. They loved it. We all did. We expected to see some alligators and learn a little about the area, but we had so much fun. Our tour guide Trey was awesome with a lot of very dry humor. We saw lots of alligators of all sizes. Going fast in an airboat through the small swamp passages was really cool too. I would highly recommend this tour to all ages.Written October 9, 2024

- stevenjV8483OT0 contributionsLoved this tour would do again!Completely enjoyed this trip. The guides in the busses were knowledgeable and personable. The plantation was a real sight to see. But the swamp tour was a blast. Captain Jason did a great job taking us about and insured that we got to see plenty and take the pictures we wanted to take. This is a must for your New Orleans trip.Written October 8, 2024
- aundrayad0 contributionsAhoy Captain Ernie!🐊Captain Ernie was FANTASTIC!! An extremely intelligent tour guide - I could listen to him all day! I learned so many new things about alligators that I never even learned in school. And he sure knows how to steer an airboat! Thank you thank you Captain Ernie!Written October 8, 2024
- susantaylorfla0 contributionsSuper great time!!This was such a good time. I’m from Florida so I’ve seen swamp and alligators but had never been on an airboat. Our guide was so much fun! We cruised all around, fast, slow, a bunch of different areas. Saw tons of gators, one huge one!! Some coyotes and held a baby gator. The guide (sorry I can’t remember his name) gave us tons of info and answered all questions. He was so much fun. He was in no rush to get back and drop us off, I think we got a little extra time which was fantastic. I highly recommend this tour. Also got picked up and dropped off right at our air bnb. 👍👍Written October 8, 2024

- Worldbutterfly0 contributionsHighly Recommended Small Airboat AdventureWow...what an adventure in the bayous! We are so glad we opted for the small airboat tour, which allowed for a more intimate, varied experience. Our guide Bobby was extremely skilled and knowledgeable. It was clear he knows the area and has a deep understanding of the inner workings of the plant, animal and, yes, reptile life. We saw quite a few alligators, but he didn't bait them or get them to do anything unsafe or unnatural. He had also made friends with a young pack of coyotes. It was a treat to see them up close, too. Though, to be honest, speeding around in an airboat and getting out of NOLA into such a unique ecosystem would be a thrill even if we hadn't seen a thing. Highly recommended!Written October 5, 2024
- S9707NDellieb0 contributionsSwamp Tour in the afternoonIt was a lovely experience. Capt. dusty explained everything to us so it took the fear away once you understood how the wildlife works. The weather was beautiful and it was peaceful and calm. We saw lots of alligators, raccoons, snakes it was a full experience. Recommend highly.Written October 5, 2024

We booked the Destrehan Plantation & Airboat Swamp Tour thru our points, memorable and informative tours . Really recommend it from start to finish. The tour company made arrangements for transportation directly from our hotel. Ms Cynthia called us 15 minutes before she picked us up in an SUV - she was our own private chauffeur for the morning . We had a delightful conversation with her, our first stop was the Destrehan Plantation. We were greeted and provided a map of the grounds. Our tour guide led us to a 10 minute informative little video - kind of like Cliff notes and then we started our tour with James (i think was his name) He was dressed in attire from that time period, he was very informative . Me and the Hubby are history geeks so we enjoyed listening . One of the highlights was that there was an original document signed by Thomas Jefferson about the Louisiana Purchase that we were able to witness (no pics though & kept under high security). It's the oldest and probably the smallest plantation in the area. Next Ms Cynthia made pit stop at Wendy's for quick bite & then dropped us off at Airboat location. Let me tell you it was a cold cold day . This was probably the best part of the day. Captain Ernie was fantastic, he showed us some small baby gators & other swamp friends. He told us that due to the cold and then time of the year the big gators were hibernating and somewhere in the mud hole sleeping. Capt. Ernie gave us great knowledge about gators, the bayou , and awesome airboat speed. Tour ended with a bus ride dropping everyone off at their respective hotels . Absolutely great day

I loved this tour, and I read the reviews on the baby alligator and how people felt it was inhumane but our tour guide said these alligators have a 30% chance of survival in the first 3 years of life. Their parents, predators and boats are many ways they can meet their demise, so with that in mind people need to chill. Holding the alligator made me so empathetic and amazed by this creature. When we went fast it was an amazing experience. Our tour guide was informative and had a hilarious humor and honestly knew how to work a crowd! I will come back again my next visit and even referred my friends that came in to town after we went!

One of the best days we've ever spent with a tour company. We took our 9 year old grandson, who was fascinated with both the plantation tour and the swamp. The tour of Destrehan Plantation was an unvarnished presentation of the slave-based economy, with a guide who was an expert in the history. Brad, our guide on the swamp tour, was so knowledgeable about animals, environmental change and degradation of the wetlands, and the economic impact of policy on the way of life of people living in the area. I HIGHLY recommend using this company. If you do both tours, take snacks and drinks for the bus. We were picked up at 8:15 and dropped off at 2:45.

Airboat was awesome - got us a bit wet to start but it's definitely an upgrade from the slower pontoon I did 10 years ago. Overall amazing tour - got lucky on a good sunny day and saw lots of gator, wildlife and fun boat. Oak alley is something to see to appreciate the beauty that it is, but also understand the tragedy of slavery and raise awareness of what the past was like and how to move forward.

Our tour started with a fantastic driver in a first class bus, and the trip was comfortable and pleasant. He was very personable and informative during the trip to and from the plantation and swamp tour.
The airboat ride was beyond expectations, it was exciting and informative. Our guide Rocky was native to the area and full of information, he ensured that we saw as much wild life as possible and introduced us to his professional assistant (baby alligator). Rocky was lots of fun and brought the tour to a whole new level of enjoyment.
Best experience of our first visit to New Orleans.
I would strongly recommend this to anyone visiting the area.
