We took this tour with Harris in late February 2022 and it was a highlight of our trip. We are a family of 5, with 3 kids ranging from elementary school age to late teens, and Harris made the tour incredibly interesting for everyone (adults included). His depth of knowledge was impressive, and it was evident that he knows NOLA history and was enthusiastic sharing it. We really enjoyed learning about not only the history of the immediate Garden District, but the city as a whole, why certain neighborhoods developed, and the interesting architecture of the houses. Although not planned, one of the more fascinating aspects of our particular tour was when the owner of one of the houses came out to leave and provided personalized history of their property (that didn't quite meld with Harris' version , but we are pretty sure they were trying to sanitize their version). Regardless, that added a lot of local flavor as the owner said their house had been in their family since the 1850s! If you're looking for a great way to spend a couple of hours and gain a better appreciation for the city and its people, I'd strongly recommend this tour.

Our guide, Angie, was absolutely awesome!! The 2 hour trip began and ended at the main gate to Lafayette Cemetery, strolling through beautiful streets in the Garden District. She was extremely knowledgeable, bubbly, and could easily be heard despite occasional traffic noise. We learned all kinds of cool things about the architecture, various flowering plants, famous current and former owners…and her information about the cemetery, its history, and the internment/funeral process was extremely interesting. The 2 hour walk was not fast paced, and I doubt it was more than a mile and a half or so in total, and there were many opportunities to sit for a few minutes at several stops along the route, so not very strenuous in the heat. Highly recommend this tour and tour guide!! A+++ Well worth the money!

My husband and I so enjoyed the Garden District Walking tour with Harris. Even though we had prepared for our trip by reading about New Orleans, he brought it alive with his tales of not only the Garden District, but the whole area. He loves New Orleans and it shows. After the tour, he walked us 2 blocks to the streetcar stop on St Charles Street so we could take it to the WW2 museum. Above and beyond and very kind! My husband and I are in our 70's and we managed the 2 hours of standing and walking easily. If you have mobility problems, the walking tour may not be for you as there is really no place to sit down during the tour as this is in a residential neighborhood.

My favorite part of the experience was our guide, Harris. He was truly knowledgeable, animated, prepared, up on current gossip related to the homes, and able to talk about the history in a way that was positive and sympathetic to a wide variety of people. Also, his further suggestions after the tour shaped the rest of our visit to New Orleans. Great job!

What a great tour of the Garden District! Angie was exceptional! She shared many interesting history facts and current day information of the homes and surrounding area. We stopped by homes with different architectures where she pointed out specific features and facts for each, saw beautiful gardens and a few homes of celebrities. Learned so much about the Louisiana cemeteries and burial customs and celebrations. Would definitely recommend this 2 hour tour - had frequent stops along the way - wear comfy shoes and bring a water bottle.

I was in New Orleans for a long weekend and I'm not a drinker or partier, so I opted to take this tour. Unfortunately, I was notified my flight was going to be delayed by three hours a few weeks before my trip, so I had to reschedule. The person I talked to on the phone (from Tours by Steven) was very nice and rescheduling the tour was super easy.

Our tour started right on time. It was raining the morning of our tour, and our tour guide (whose name escapes me...I feel bad about that) had ponchos for people who needed them. That was a nice touch.

For the next two hours, we walked around the garden district of New Orleans, which is only a few miles away from the French Quarter, but feels like an entirely different world. The houses are beautiful, the area is quiet, and you're not being accosted by the "locals." Our guide provided awesome history and background about the area and the homes we were viewing. We saw the homes of the Mannings, Nicholas Cage, John Goodman, Sandra Bullock, and a close friend of Mark Twain (Joseph Carroll). I wish I knew more about the Commander's Palace...a nice-looking restaurant right across the street from the start of the tour.

I do have a few pieces of advice for taking this tour. First, this probably isn't the best tour for young kids. It's mostly history and architecture. Plus, it's a lot of walking over pretty uneven terrain (tree roots are literally exploding through the sidewalk in a lot of places). The tour doesn't cost that much, so I guess you're not wasting a ton of money if you bring the little ones, but they might get fidgety after looking at houses for two hours. Also, as I just mentioned, this tour is a good amount of walking and standing over some REALLY uneven terrain, including broken sidewalks and cobblestone streets. Wear comfortable shoes and socks!

If I had one minor knock on the tour, the cemetery was mentioned in the title of the tour, but we really only got to look in. The cemetery was closed when we went. Our guide still found enough content to fill the two hours, but it was a little disappointing to not get to go into the cemetery. I might not have read the description enough, so that might be on me. However, if you're doing this tour and you're REALLY looking forward to the cemetery part of the tour, you might want to check.

So, all in all, I really enjoyed the tour. Our guide was funny and animated and provided a lot of cool stories and background info about the gorgeous houses and history of the garden district. I highly recommend this tour.

HARRIS was the best guide I’ve ever had on any tour. He made it for everyone. The tour was great, so informative, he told us all the interesting stuff and was so helpful to send us a text afterwards with a lot of information on what we had seen and recommendations for the city. Harris was super easy to chat to and ask questions, he has a real passion for his home and you can tell he really loves being able to share it. Can’t recommend him highly enough.

Angie is the best tour guide in New Orleans with the biggest personality! We toured the beautiful Garden District for two hours with a small, friendly group, Angie was knowledgeable in architecture, history, botany, culture, celebrities, and also provided modern day updates on the homes and shared personal antidotes. It seems like Angie knows the entire town of New Orleans, and with her cheerful attitude and enthusiasm it’s no surprise. It started to pour, and Angie didn’t miss a beat. She handed out ponchos and finished up the tour with the fascinating history of Lafayette No. 1 cemetery, the New Orleans burial process, and the famous second line. We were not able to enter the cemetery, but Angie provided amazing recommendations for places we could enter. We visited Metairie Cemetery and spent and spent a fascinating half day walking amongst the tombs and crypts, at Angie’s recommendation. Among the famous buried in the cemetery are Anne Rice, Louis Prima, and Eve Curie, daughter of the famous scientist. Thanks for everything, Angie! I hope we can catch you on one of your other tours.

This tour was so informative and enjoyable. Me and my wife booked last minute during a time that Lafayette No. 1 happened to be closed for the city to remove markings that had been done on some of the graves. While we were disappointed that we were not able to see the cemetery, our guide made up the difference by giving us an excellent tour of the garden district. If you are staying in the French Quarter it is important that you check out this part of town as there is a world of difference. Our guide provided us with intriguing details about almost every house that we walked by and answered all of our questions. He also provided a native's point of view of what we were looking at which we valued. Excellent tour and guide 10/10!
