    Oak Alley Plantation
Stop: 2 hours - Admission included
The tour of the Oak Alley house is conducted by guides in authentic plantation style apparel. Walking is required for this tour. The distance from the plantation house to the restaurant and souvenir shop is about 1 block. There are benches along the path, shaded by the Oaks. The guided house tour will be about 35 minutes in length. The remainder of your time will be spent self-exploring the grounds. If you use your time wisely, you can grab a sandwich at the gift shop for lunch and still have time to walk the grounds.

The plantation is beautiful and well run , but this tour company is sadly lacking. Our bus was an hour late picking us up and then proceeded to stop at other tour sites to drop people off before going to oak ally. The bus itself was a ramshackle affair with worn seats and windows that that rattled so loudly we were afraid they would fall out. The poor springs on the vehicle did not help matters at all. I would definitely avoid doing business with this company in the future!!!!

We do apologize for the delay of transportation as there are a lot of construction and street closures due to a building that collapsed. As for the bus ride, the road (Hwy 90) to Oak Alley is very bumpy, and unfortunately that is completely out of our control. There are really no other routes to get there with the allotted time.

Our bus driver was very talkative, not really that interesting though. It was a long way out of New Orleans but a scenic enough trip. The plantation itself was quite interesting, a short tour through the big house.

We do not own or operate the tour of the house. We only provide safe and comfortable ground service to Oak Alley plantation, provide the entrance fee and make sure that you know when where and how to do your tour. The trip is long, 70 miles one way. We do apologize for the long trip but that is the nature of that plantation.

Our guide was terrific, explaining history on the way there. Then the guides at both plantations were very good as well. Heartbreaking to visit the slave cabins and know how people were forced to live in such inhumane conditions while their owners lived in such luxury. The trees at Oak Alley alone are worth the visit but the overall tour was great.

It's a beautiful place. The transportation was correct. The driver was a nice person; he gave us information about the places we were getting through. But I can't understand why it was so difficult to communicate the piking-up point: it was impossible to set it in the web application form. I had to phone to twice, once to to set the point and another time to confirm it.

The worst: the explanations at the plantation were very poor. It was better to read the booklet. The person in charge of explanations was not kind. The price is not worth it.

If you don’t have a car to do the tour yourself, this tour company is a great option! We were lucky to have a great driver, who was amusing and full of information. He was a local of the city, and had grown up and lived there, so was chock full of great little stories and tidbits about the city, the area, and pointed out little bits of info along the way.

He made the trip fun, and was a great driver, which we appreciated since we had our kids on board as well. He was stuck in traffic on the way to our hotel, but was only 10 minutes late, and was very prompt on the pick up from Oak Alley after the tour.

We arranged the tour through the Westin Canal Hotel.

Let me start off by saying that Oak Alley is amazingly beautiful and you will not regret going. However, there are other ways to get to the plantation and I highly recommend you try driving yourself or using a different company.

We were an hour late leaving New Orleans, degraded by our driver, and one couple got kicked off the bus before we left because the company had miss-counted. During the drive, our driver (Barbara) was trying to give us information about the area, but she was far from knowledgeable. She also ran 2 red lights and crossed over a double yellow line to pass a truck. We were glad to get off the bus alive and to escape the endless talking about buffet items that she thought was relevant.

The worst part was that once we arrived at the plantation, she realized that half of the people on the bus were at the wrong location. Some were supposed to be at a different plantation and others were supposed to be at a swamp tour. This was the most unorganized company I have ever seen.

Cajun tours transported us and were over an hour late. Made our tour rushed and put a damper on the day for everyone on the bus. The Plantation guide was very well versed on history and well worth having.. but the Plantations were not impressive ... many on the tour were disappointed. My suggestion would be drive yourselves if possible and do it yourself. Your admission provides a guide if you want one! We paid $92 US each and most of that is for your transport ( which is very poorly organized )...Its $25 US to get into the Plantations ... so as I said..if you ca drive yourself!

If our bus driver could receive a rating, I would give him a 5. He was awesome. He gave us great information about the city and what we were seeing out of our bus windows. I learned so much about the history of the city and some of the history of Katrina as well. We also had a lunch served at Oak Alley that was excellent. (I was surprised that sweet tea wasn't offered.) As to Oak Alley, it was just nothing to write home about. I do quite a bit of historical touring. The tour guide was friendly and answered our questions, it's just that I don't need to see "period furniture". It's ok if period pieces are needed to fill the house, but the fact that the whole house is "period" was disappointing. I did walk the grounds and see the graves of the last family that owned the plantation. The slave quarters have been rebuilt, but they are probably not that realistic. I was just very disappointed. There are other Plantations, I'd try one of them. I'd have given it a 2 if it wasn't for the bus driver and the lunch.
