- 1Meet your airboat captain and settle into your seat on the 16-passenger vessel, then prepare for a wild ride into the swamp. Powered by a 454 Chevy engine and propelled by huge fans, the airboat travels at speeds up to 25 miles per hour (40 kph). The captain performs exhilarating high-speed maneuvers, cruises at gentle speeds, and makes plenty of photo stops while narrating on the wildlife and local flora. Alligator sightings are common in these waters, but your guide is trained to ensure safety at all times during this family-friendly outing. After your tour concludes, relax with transport back to your hotel in New Orleans.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 148nickyc0 contributionsGreat NOLA overviewThe tour guide was very knowledgeable with a great disposition. This tour is great for an overview of the city and its history. If you want time to walk around, then I would recommend doing a walking tour. This tour gets you started on your NOLA adventure, so do this at the beginning of your trip.Written February 16, 2025
- nanamike20220 contributionsAmazing TourSecond time touring with Captain Jason and it was just as great as the first! Looking forward to my third return! I’ve toured with other companies here in NOLA and this one is definitely the best for your experience and the cost!Written February 16, 2025
- 345BenH0 contributionsBetter than I expectedThe captain was great. Very entertaining. Saw lots of gators and even got to hold a “pocket gator” or baby at the end. Had a great time with a large group.Written February 16, 2025
- florenep20210 contributionsFirst Day in Nola a MustAwesome detailed small group tour of city. Get to know about the city’s history & it’s people. Had the st Charles streetcar on my list to see Garden District but why would I want to be in crowded streetcar when I can be in air conditioned small bus plus understand what we are seeing. So affordable for the time you get on this tour. I’m hard of hearing so small group is better than big bus. You get breaks along the way. Tour says includes cemetery& garden district but so much more than I can list. Highly recommend you do on first day visiting Nola.Written February 16, 2025
- garydN1827SI0 contributionsAwesome tour and CaptainGreat trip!!! Captain Dewey was a blast. Highly recommend (this was our second time taking the tour and would do it a third time)!Written February 16, 2025
- Y4465VEscotth0 contributionsA great time!It was a cold day in February, so conditions were less than ideal for a swamp tour, but captain Dewey made sure we had a great time and our visit to the swamp was the highlight of our trip to Nola.Written February 16, 2025
- Trek270710 contributionsVery Informative! The tour was very informative. Our guide was fun and engaging. We did this tour at the beginning of our stay in New Orleans and it helped us plan the rest of our trip.Written February 16, 2025
- Hannah B0 contributionsAlligator on board - fantastic!!!This tour was fantastic. The transportation from New Orleans was seamless. We did feel a little rushed at the plantation, but we still got a chance to see everything. Captain Jason on the swamp boat was great! He had many years of experience and was born and raised in the area. He was a wealth of knowledge that went beyond the alligators in the area. We saw a lot of alligators and had a great time!Written February 15, 2025
- 144deirdrer0 contributionsGreat experienceWe had such a great time. Tina was hilarious and very welcoming. Dewey was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and funny. He may or may not have pulled a small alligator onto the boat and I may or may not have held my first emotional support alligator. The time went by way to fast but I was so happy to find this company. Hopefully I’ll be back for another one of their toursWritten February 14, 2025
- st19620 contributionsFantastic swamp boat experienceThis was a fabulous experience and would definitely recommend the small boat tour. Our guide was Bobby and he shared so much passion and knowledge of all things ‘alligator’ with us throughout the trip. The boat ride thrilling, but then you slowly meander through the stunning scenery of the Spanish Moss lined inlets where you’ll see a host of alligators up close. An unforgettable experience. The lady in the gift shop was so friendly and welcoming too, thanks everyone at Louisiana Swamp Boat Tours.Written February 13, 2025
- citigirls0 contributionsPerfect Tour to see all of New OrleansWe booked this tour to get and overview of New Orleans and it was amazing. There were 4 of us in our group, including my 90 year old cousin. The tour was just perfect! We selected a pick up spot right near our Airbnb and had a bus came to take us to the starting point. We were very lucky as we ended up with a private tour for the 4 of us. Such a treat! Our driver, David, was terrific. He was so knowledgeable and explained the history of NOLA from beginning to end. We toured the French Quarter, the Garden District, CBD, out to Lake Pontchartrain and the Ninth Ward. David is so knowledgeable and personable, it was just a pleasure. We made one stop at the Cemetery for about 20 minutes (with David as our guide through the cemetery) and then one more stop at Cafe du Monde in the park for about 20 minutes as well. This tour is well worth the $40. My family thoroughly enjoyed it.Written February 12, 2025

Got the best guide, Dewey. Lorraine was our bus driver and she is one of only two drivers that will give you a historic commentary on the drive out. They were both very nice people. The boat ride was lots of fun. Despite the 105 heat index we stayed cool by either staying moving in the boat or stopping in shady spots. The guides have essentially trained the animals to come to the boat by feeding them marshmallows (we were assured this will not alter their natural hunting instincts). They pay for access to private land with a couple other tour companies so it is quiet except for the few other tour boats. The guides will hand feed the alligators and in Dewey’s case he handled a 10 foot gator! We also saw a bald eagle, raccoons, owl, and numerous birds.
Tips: the spray from the boat is pretty minimal. Those on the outside seats will get the most but once again it isn’t much. I wore light colored sneakers and did not get dirty at all. Wear sunglasses or a ball cap (the headphones they give you help keep it on). Wear sunscreen! Seats are tiered so don’t worry about where you sit. There is space underneath the seats to stow belongings but they will get rattled around. Also bring cash to tip the bus driver and tour guide.

I’m so happy to have had the best tour guide in the Bayou!! Our tour guides name was Ernie and his knowledge of the Bayou’s and Alligators was priceless!! Ernie even stopped the boat to tell us stories about the swamps and bayou.. Ernie loves what he does and that came through with his engaging personality and biology lessons of alligators and other creatures… Ernie drove that airboat like a champ and he knew where the alligators would be hanging out, because we saw plenty of them for the time of year we took the tour…I highly recommend this swamp tour!!

🐊🐊We had an incredible time on the airboat swamp tour! Captain Ernie was fantastic—he was not only skilled at navigating the waters but also shared so many interesting facts about the ecosystem and wildlife. We really learned a lot during the trip.
The experience was well worth the money, and the thrill of gliding through the swamp was unforgettable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area; it’s a must-do!🐊🐊

After pick up from our hotel we were given a verbal outline of New Orleans areas by the driver during ride to the Airboats. The experience of the ride in the V8 powered air boat was worth the cost alone. It was up there with the Jetboats in Queenstown NZ.
The interaction with the alligators topped off experience. Who would look guess alligators love marshmallows.
The driving skills and knowledge of Ernie were exceptional.

We lucked onto a stunning day with just the right ratio of cloud to sunshine to make for a gorgeously atmospheric tour. Of course this was courtesy of a cold snap that meant we were light on alligators but we know that they aren’t paid employees and with the temps that day it’s not surprising they decided to stay in bed (seriously - rug up folks!). Our guide Ernie persevered and found us not only a couple of alligators but also turtles and a plethora of pretty birds as well as providing us with lots of insights into their habits and the bayou ecology. The shuttle to and from the city was appreciated as well - one less thing to have to coordinate. I highly recommend visiting the swamps if you get the chance - it adds another layer of understanding to the unique flavour that is the city of New Orleans.

Wonderful initiative for those who love animals and nature. The experience on the airboat is exciting and at times reaches thrilling speeds. Suggestive landscape and abundant alligators that come closer to eat from the hands of the attendant. The experience of holding a tame and slightly scared baby alligator in your hand is equally beautiful. The only flaw is the absence of a guide in Italian which, for the price you pay, would be appropriate.

We took this tour on April 15, 2024. Redeeming the tickets was quick and easy. Directions on which pier to wait at were clear and concise. Your guide calls out your name and you board that boat. You are given headphones to wear that cancel much of the engine noise. We would recommend that you must wear these when the engine is running. We also recommend you secure any loose items, like hats, glasses, cameras, etc as the boat moves swiftly, creating plenty airflow to blow items away. If you wear a ballcap, turn the bill to the back of your head. The boat right it quite exhilarating as you sweep though bayou country. Our guide made swift turns did other moves to add to the excitement. We saw plenty of alligators, but not much other wildlife. Our guide was friendly, funny and knowledgeable. This is a fun excursion that we highly recommend.

We had the most amazing experience on the winter swamp boat tour in New Orleans! The weather was perfect for exploring the bayous, and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Our guide, BeBop was incredibly knowledgeable and made the whole experience even more memorable by sharing fascinating facts about the local wildlife and history including personal family experiences on the Swamp. We saw a variety of animals, from alligators and turtles to an eagles nest, and the tranquility of the swamp was something truly special. The boat ride was smooth, and the small group size made it feel like a more personalized adventure. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting New Orleans—it's a unique and peaceful way to explore the area's natural beauty!

Felt authentic. Like being with you crazy Cajun cousin on the bayou looking for gators. Our guide who apparently is YouTube famous for jumping into the water to recuse a distressed gator talked about his life and addressed Cajun stereotypes in a humorous way. Appreciated the ear protection as the boats are LOUD at full throttle. Saw lots of gators and herons. Pickup at a nearby hotel almost went wrong as we got a call they were going to be a few minutes EARLY and we had to rush because the driver did not indicate he would be inclined to wait for us to get there on time. As it was he hit traffic and got there about 2 minutes late and we got there early and it all worked out. So if you book this make sure your phone is on and you understand you might need to be at the pick up spot a few minutes early.

Spectacular tour of the Louisiana swamp-land by air boat. Exciting, informative and well executed. Ian was our guide/boat driver and was articulate, full of information about the lands and environment and alligators. He made the tour “fly” by (and words and air boating) and was attentive to our desires and needs. We (grandparents) took our 18 year old high school senior for an early graduation trip - and this was a highlight for all of us aged 18 to 80. Highly recommended.
