Overview
Take a short drive from New Orleans to visit Honey Island Swamp, a wildlife preserve that is one of the last protected wetlands in Louisiana, during a 2-hour boat tour. Visit a Cajun village only accessible by boat; learn about the animals and plants in the lush swamps; and get close to wildlife with an expert local guide. This tour does not include transportation.
Highlights
  • Go to one of Louisiana’s last preserved wetlands during this swamp tour
  • Your guide knows the best and safest ways around the secluded swamp
  • Learn about the area and its Cajun history and culture from your guide
  • Catch sight of a Cajun village that’s accessible only by boat
  • Multiple tour times available for your convenience
What to Expect
Meet for this swamp tour at Honey Island Swamp in Slidell, which is about an hour away from New Orleans. This wildlife area is one of the last protected wetlands in the entire state.
After you check in, board your open-air boat and get comfortable. Your boat sets off on the swamp as your guide tells you the history of the area as well as fun folklore associated with the swamp.
As you go, keep an eye out for wildlife, including alligators, snakes, wild boars, and birds. Make sure to have your camera ready so you can snap pictures, too. Your guide also takes you to a Cajun village in the swamp that’s used the area for medicine, food, and other everyday needs for years.
Your New Orleans swamp and bayou tour ends back at the docking point in Slidell.
