Overview

Experience the Louisiana bayou outside of New Orleans on this airboat ride near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Learn about the historic swampland, just a short ride outside the city, teeming with wildlife through your guide’s commentary. This tour offers an excellent way to get out of the city and into Louisiana nature. Both self-drive and hotel pickup options are available to fit your budget and schedule.

What to Expect

When booking, customize this tour to fit your schedule. You can choose from morning or afternoon departures; self-drive to the town of Jean Lafitte; or bus pickup at your New Orleans hotel.

Once you arrive at the launch site, step aboard your airboat (small boats accommodate six to eight passengers; large boats are limited to 25). Hold on to your seat as the fast, light boat takes off through the tidewater cypress swamp, which borders Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The flat-bottom airboat allows access to even the shallowest of water, where many tidal birds and swamp creatures make their homes.

Your guide narrates the sights, such as tupelo-gum trees and cypress trees covered with moss, as you whip through the water. Learn about the bayou’s native creatures, such as nutria, snakes, turtles, and alligators.

Back in Jean Lafitte, stop by the albino alligator exhibit or grab some food before leaving.

Great experience

Despite the weather being less than perfect, it was a great experience. The airboat itself is a fun ride and cruising the swamps in the bayou is terrific and beautiful. Got to hold a baby alligator and throw some marshmallows. Overall certainly a must do!...More

Gators!!!

Don’t take your own UBER/LYFT. This is located in a remote area with limited phone reception and not rideshare cars available. With that being said, this was a very cool tour. The weather was beautiful and it was warm enough to get the gators out...More

Exhilaring Ride through the Coastal Wetlands

Our group of six enjoyed a late afternoon ride on a small (6-8 guest) airboat. Captain Danny was informative and attentive. He spotted a bald eagle, alligator, raccoon, and a deer. He had a small, rescue alligator on board for closer observation. He described the...More

Not what we expected

I booked a small airboat tour for myself and 4 friends. Our captain was E.J., and he was a nice, quiet, low-key tour guide. Before we started, one friend asked about seatbelts, as there aren’t any on the boat. No mention of where life vests...More

We booked this through Gators and Ghosts Tours in the French Quarter of New Orleans. They bussed us to the location, so I don't know it's own local address outside of the city.

About 2 hours. You will be on the boat for a good amount of that time.
