- Stepwil20 contributionsReally EnjoyableA very enjoyable, relaxing, and informative tour. We didn't opt for the dining option, but as food and snacks are available, I'd recommend the Gator sausage bun.Written September 8, 2024
- O6159TFelizabethg0 contributionsBeautiful SceneryThe steamboat experience was wonderful. The jazz musicians were lively and very entertaining. We chose the dinner option, however if we were to choose this cruise again we would opt out as we enjoyed seeing the views and felt we missed out on almost half the time by sitting at dinner. We would choose to get something from the snack bar, which has an excellent variety of foods that were not on the dinner menu. Our guide gave a very informed narration of historical and current facts of the sights as we cruised along. The sunset was just beautiful. All in all a fabulous experience to share with family and friends.Written September 8, 2024
- ALCON C0 contributionsRomantic nightGreat night with good music and delicious food. The jazz band was fantastic with lovely music that gave the dinner experience a romantic night . We enjoyed the eveningWritten September 8, 2024
- Anna L0 contributionsSit Facing French QuarterIt was decently fun but not something I’d do again. Sit in the side facing the French Quarter as that’s the only side that sees anything on the tour lmao. The volume for the tour is really low and I couldn’t hear much of it unfortunately. (I’m in my 20s not hard of hearing lol) The music was nice! Make sure you are there at 6pm to hear it all otherwise you will miss most of the experience… it would be nicer if we got more music during in actual cruise rather than boarding.Written September 7, 2024

- csand6270 contributionsBig Beautiful Historical Boat!Good Time. Nice Breeze. Informative on the way out of port and playing jazz on the way back. **Rider Tip** Make sure you sit on the side facing the city when leaving. I thought they would repeat some of the key things on the way back when the boat turned around. They did not. The Big Easy will have you sweating! So be prepared. Oh didn’t eat the food so can’t speak to that.Written September 4, 2024
- Z5413TLcharlesp0 contributionsMust do steamboat tour, but dinner was just okThe views of the city at sunset and night from the river were amazing! The band was really good too though they only play for about half the trip. The first half is a narrated tour of the Mississippi River around New Orleans which was very informational and interesting! It was super cool to see the engine room too for the steam powered wheel. We did do the dinner as part of our trip, which wasn’t bad for a buffet and had typical New Orleans items, but would have probably skipped it for one of the restaurants in the city.Written September 4, 2024

- valerietO4151QN0 contributionsCalm waters, warm breezes and good music set the stage for a wonderful time on the jazz cruise!I did the dinner and it was just okay. I wish there had been more seafood. I didn't see any. More dessert choices would've been nice also-there was only bread pudding but it was tasty. The service was good. The band was great and the views were amazing! We were blessed to have witnessed a marriage proposal during our time on the cruise! We also were very blessed that the weather was beautiful after a few stormy days! It was a perfect end to our Over 60 and Fabulous travel team journey to New Orleans!Written September 3, 2024

Waited 45 mins for first cocktail despite the waiter saying they were on their way several times. Ordered the rest of the drinks in the package together to make sure we got them before we ran out of time My recommendation would be just to do the cruise and skip the foodWritten September 1, 2024

Decided to have the dinner but the restaurant didn’t have us for dinner as I had selected for no dinner, but still charged for it. Somewhat a tourist trap the whole cruise. It took a long time to get to boat and while queuing there was a horrific 30min of some kind of flutes playing on full sound and completely out of tune… sounded worse than a music class in elementary school with plastic flutes.
The food was pretty mediocre, plastic cups and no real buffet but waiters serving ready made plates. We got a feeling that we were supposed to binge the food as fast as possible and leave the restaurant.
The trip included a short jazz concert and most of the time the trip was more like a sightseeing cruise. You can hear better jazz in the city.

The 20 minutes you heard is a riverboat legacy, the calliope. It was played to draw people to the river. It is sightseeing plus music and narration. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have met your expectations.

I’ve read a lot of bad reviews before booking the tickets and was doubtful about this activity. Surprisingly, I couldn’t find a single flaw during our trip. Yes, there is a long line to get on a boat but it passes very fast. The staff on the boat is very friendly and helpful. We had a brunch, only waited about 5 minutes to be seated. The waiters at the restaurant are great too, the food was quite delicious for a boat restaurant. There is a bar with all kinds of drinks, no matter if you’re having brunch or not. The band was on the boat and was playing during the boat trip, there also was a guide who introduced some basic touristic info about the boat, Mississippi, New Orleans etc..
I live in New Orleans and I can definitely recommend this trip to the locals and travelers. If you’re too spoiled or negative, you will find flaws everywhere. But if you know how to enjoy your time, you’ll enjoy this trip.

Okay, a tip for you first. Despite the fact that you may have a ticket on your phone, you MUST go to the ticket office and exchange it for a paper ticket. If you get lunch, go to the right to the food cruise line. This will take you to some photographers. You may choose to buy your photos later.
We chose the first seating for lunch, which was good in that we got to eat because we were hungry. However, the result of that was after lunch when we went on deck, all the seats were pretty much taken and we had to struggle to find a place to stand and look at the sights. In retrospect, the second seating would have been better because we could have secured some good seats on deck for the narrated portion of the tour (choose the port side) and then gone down to our reserved seats in the dining room.
The food was good if not spectacular. We had andouille, dirty rice, red beans and rice, potato salad, and bread pudding. I'm pretty sure there was something else but I have forgotten what it was. We got plenty of drink tickets, so many we gave several away.
The dixieland band that played before and after the narration was lively and entertaining. I do admit to a fondness for Dixieland jazz! The cruise itself was relaxing and made a nice departure from the energy of Mardis Gras.

Overall, a disappointing experience, though there were a few issues that might have made our trip worse than average.
It is extremely hot, and we northerners cannot sit outside for 2 hours when it's over 100 degrees. So we planned on getting an indoor spot with A/C, and we were able to do that. However, the indoor lounge on deck 3 (where the live Jazz was) was barely air conditioned and very hard to find seating, and the indoor lounge on deck 2 was 2/3 full from a private party which was absurdly loud- little children running around in circles and shrieking at the top of their lungs with no parental intervention. So the indoor options were either stand and still sweat from the heat, or sit in AC and not be able to hear a single thing the captain said. For the first 1/3 of the cruise we dealt with the screaming in order to cool down. We had a window seat, but there wasn't really anything cool to see (and we couldn't hear any narration, so if there was something of note, we couldn't tell on our own). For the second 1/3 we went upstairs to listen to Jazz for as long as we could bear the heat. For the last 1/3 we went back down to the decent A/C and put up with the screaming again.
Overall, it was not worth the money we paid. There were far too many people on the boat. There wasn't enough A/C to keep all the indoor areas cool. And frankly, there's not exactly cool stuff to see along this section of the Mississippi. The tiny parts of narration we did catch (as I scouted the ship to see what better seating options there were) were pretty inane- "There's a tugboat to our left;" "The trees are blocking it, but there are some homes there along the bank that are built in the style of a steamboat". I don't know what I was expecting, but definitely something cooler than that for $40 per person. We should have just paid $2 and taken a public ferry ride across the river and back.
If there hadn't been a loud private party, if it was cooler outside so we could have sat outdoors without melting, if the boat was bigger (which maybe the Natchez is, we were on the other one), it might have been a better experience. But I wouldn't be willing to try it again.

We experienced the jazz brunch cruise. Boarding wasn’t real clear as there were 2 lines, one for diners and one for sightseeing only, but you couldn’t see that until you were toward the front. Many people stood for awhile in a long line and didn’t need to. Once onboard, we had time to check in for brunch and that went well. Food was good and the servers were excellent. The cruise itself is fine. The jazz, part, however, was largely missed by our family as it is held out side on deck and we spent some time enjoying brunch inside so didn’t get to hear it. We didn’t realize you would have to go outside to hear it, since it was a jazz brunch cruise. There was an audio system but it was poor. Prior to and after the jazz band, a staff member gave good info about the history of the river sites and it was good, but since he was inside, it was loud (as opposed to the jazz band) and could have been a little less loud. Overall we were disappointed a bit, but did enjoy the food and the cruise was fine.

We will share your indoor and outdoor comments with the crew. Four bands on the boat would become overwhelming. We place the band on the rooftop deck to make scenery and music available to one and all on the cruise. It is piped into the indoor decks. Thank you for sharing.

My Mum and 2 friends were booked onto the 2pm brunch cruise, however found out this trip was cancelled 8 months before our arrival! We booked a year earlier. This was an issue with our tour operator and has been sorted by them. We actually re-booked the following day without lunch and sat upstairs with a fabulous jazz trio which actually turned out to be a much better option for us. Outside, with the music and a bar was far better in my eyes than being indoors with a buffet style lunch. We were, obviously disappointed the first day, since we were all dressed up and looking forward to the lunch cruise. The lady at the ticket office did nothing to make this any better. She was incredibly rude and cold and offered us no alternative cruise that we could fit in our stay. We had to chat to another rep from another hotel before realising we could book the following day without the lunch. Hopefully the lady was having a bad day and isn’t always so impolite, but she certainly won’t be a great memory we take from New Orleans. The photo as we boarded was a nice souvenir too.

I am glad you were able to book for the next day. If the rude person was at our Dock Ticket office, please let us know if you remember her name. That is not the "Southern Hospitatly" we expect from our staff.

This was a great experience for our first day in New Orleans! While lining up for the Jazz Brunch Sunday cruise, we got to watch and listen to the calliope concert. The steamboat was beautifully decorated for Christmas! We were handed a card with seating instructions for brunch in the first seating, which we really were happy about. On boarding, we immediately were seated in the dining room and then got a very prompt cup of gumbo for each of us. Salads and fruits were on the table ready to go. The waiter was prompt with coffee for everyone, and the buffet lines were immediately open even before the ship started on the cruise. We really loved all the foods that we tried, and my favorite was the grillades and grits. I also really was happy that everyone got to try BOTH kinds of dessert (though the bananas part of the Bananas Foster was only 3 slices. Not a big deal though because we were all pretty full as the buffet really is all-you-can-eat!) The only downside of the brunch being first was that we couldn't fully hear the narration due to the noise in the dining room, which is just the way it was (fine.)
We then explored the ship and really loved visiting the engine room! I could not believe we could walk all through the engine room as much as we wanted and looked at all the machinery! My husband and his friend who are both engineers really enjoyed being able to hang out in the engine room for unlimited time. We also liked sitting outside during the trip back to NOLA and enjoyed the scenery. The crewmembers were all very friendly. Leaving the ship was also simple and a breeze. We were back after exactly 2 hours, so the prompt departure and arrival was also appreciated. I highly recommend doing this and including the brunch in your ticket purchase!!!

The tour provided a lot of information on the areas we passed. The crew was nice. Make sure to bring sunscreen during the day and a hand fan because shaded areas are very limited and the heat can be brutal. The jazz was played inside and was not heard during most of the trip. The lines for drinks were very long (only two bartenders…an additional bartender would be nice) so,I suggest getting two at a time to avoid spending most of your time waiting inside. Ladies toilets were overflowing by the end of the tour.

My husband & I did the lunch cruise in the afternoon. $50 per person. Purchased our tickets at the cruise booth on the River the day before. We were assigned the first seating to dine. The food & service was very good. However after eating we found ourselves roaming the decks trying to find a seat outside. The were no seats outdoors at all. The boat was set up with TVs indoors if you wanted to see the jazz band that was playing on the 4th deck. However for a nice outdoor event seating was difficult. Seemed like the boat was oversold

The views from the river and the accompanying narrative of what was being seen was very good. The weather was picture perfect, too. The brunch was delicious and very efficiently served. The jazz band was great! Really a treat to hear live music performed by such talented and experienced performers. We will do this again on our next trip!
