This was a nice experience at a reasonable price, very educational especially for the culinary novice to NOLA. The room was comfortable & it was fairly easy to see & hear the instructor, despite the class being full. She was very informative as to the differences between Creole & Cajun cooking, adding in some interesting historical notes while doing so. She was very good in explaining how to make a roux, which can still be challenging even for those of us who have done it before. Her chicken & sausage gumbo turned out wonderfully, high on flavor & a nice color. Ditto for her jambalaya. She also made an outstanding white chocolate & blueberry bread pudding, a nice variation on a NOLA classic, & then demonstrated how to make pralines, of course turning them out perfectly while making it look easy.

Expect to spend about 2-2.5 hours there, & you do get to eat what is cooked, probably with the options for seconds. Water, iced tea, lemonade, coffee were provided, as well as Abita Beer for those who choose. Combining the food & drink with the instruction, I’d say it’s a great value. You won’t leave stuffed but you probably won’t be hungry for a while, so don’t do this with lunch or dinner reservations planned for right afterward. The store also will likely get your attention, so you’ll want to browse a few minutes after the class is over. It’s a nice family experience but probably not something you’d want to bring kids under 10 or so to, as they’ll likely get bored with it, & it’s certainly not something for toddlers. Even if you know a thing or two about Louisiana cooking, you’ll pick up a few good tips & you’ll enjoy the presentation.

We booked with go city pass with no issues. Chef was amazing. She had a good flow of narration and taught us some New Orleans and Louisiana history while cooking shrimp artichoke soup, crawfish etouffee and pralines. Easily the best food we ate in New Orleans.

Did a demonstration class at New Orleans school of cooking. Harriett led our class. A
Native she is truly delightful- she made us laugh and told us the history of the food and area. She went through every step of making a roux, gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding and pralines. I can cook but picked up a ton of pointers.
This was so much fun and the food was delicious! Can’t wait to come back- next time I’m booking earlier and doing a hands on class!

Michael, the instructor, was the star of this cooking demonstration experience. He captured the full attention of the audience (45 of us) with his knowledge of Acadian history and the evolution of creole fare. He wove the cooking lesson with the presentation of the original Acadians’ meals, the melting pot of other cultures that moved into the area and how their foods engaged the the increasing diversity of the region. His cooking demonstration was sometimes surprising ( gasps at how much garlic he poured into the pots), and contradictory to my sensibilities, but very entertaining!! The gumbo and jambalaya was the best I’ve ever tasted (wink). Truly, I was never fond of bread pudding, but now I will always say yes to Michael’s recipe. Atmosphere and staff enhanced the experience! Bon appétit!!!

A chef makes dinner and explains why and how they are doing it. It was very fun, entertaining and educational. The food was great! I just wish the chef hadn't started with a 45 min talk about their life. That was a bit much.

Brandon was our chef for the class. He was funny, informative and organized. The class was very full but he kept control so everyone could hear and see what he was doing. The food was great and his side tips were helpful to add to the recipes. The only criticism I have is that the staff who were helping sometimes talked louder than the chef and made it difficult to hear but I would highly recommend this experience.

My mom and I signed up for the demonstration cooking class with Cindy as our chef. It was one of our favorite activities together in NOLA. Cindy made the class very entertaining and enjoyable with her sweet nature and humor. Plus, she has a wealth of knowledge backed by history and lots of fun stories to share.

Through her class, we learned the basics of New Orleans cuisine, which included creole and Cajun meals. The meals and desserts turned out amazing!!!

Afterwards, we stopped by the school’s grocery store to stock up on all the spices and sauces. When we get home, mom would like to cook a big meal and invite all our family and friends to try the cuisine we learned.

We love this cooking class so much that we plan to take it every time we visit NOLA.

We highly recommend this wonderful cooking school!

This is the 3rd cooking class I have taken at New Orleans school of Cooking. The other 2 classes were very good. This class had 70 people crammed into the classroom. Some people could not see the demonstration due to the crowded classroom preventing them being able to see in the demonstration mirror. Servers could not get to the tables without squeezing between chairs and rubbing against participants. I sure hope no one had Covid because this appeared to be an overcrowded petri dish! I am will never take another class here unless I can be assured that this type of overcrowding will not be allowed.

We have been to cooking schools all over the world and this one was among the most fun. Chef Brandon was informative and funny with just the right amount of local cooking knowledge. Would recommend this to anyone looking to expand their knowledge of New Orleans cuisine.
