Our guide and driver Matt was great. He answered all the questions that were asked. Great mixture of him talking, videos and music. Matt kept us entertained the while time. I highly recommend him as your guide any time.

An Incredible Day
Jul 2021
What an amazing day. Matt was the perfect driver with stories, videos, and information about the history and geography of what we were seeing. No idea that permafrost would be such a factor and problem in the Alaska pipeline. He answered hundreds of questions and made each of us feel important. This was truly a once in a lifetime adventure. Looking forward to a winter adventure. With what Matt as our guide the long day flew by.

Artic Circle fun day
The trip was fantastic once we got going. Slow start! We were to bring our own meals but spent the first hour of the trip in Safeway parking lot waiting for unprepared guests which ran our trip super late. Our guide Matt couldn’t have been better, super accommodating, thorough in his knowledge and shared many stories. Videos, stops and little extra tidbits made for a fun day. The only improvement could be logistics on the part of the booking side to be sure all guests come prepared so those we of us who did weren’t sitting around waiting for them.

Solid Tour, Knowledgeable Guide
Jul 2021
Took the midnight sun tour July 8.

I initially signed up primarily to cross the Arctic Circle, but that part of the tour was a little anticlimactic. You do the photo op at the sign, use the restroom, and that's it.

I did find the stops along the way to be very interesting. Particularly enjoyed stopping at the Yukon River to eat the lunch and dinner I brought along (the restaurant there is currently closed, and they do a good job advising you during booking).

Also good to learn about the pipeline, permafrost, and the different landscapes. There are also a couple of stops at scenic overlooks, and if when it's safe to do so, the driver will slow or stop for wildlife photography.

And fun to travel the Dalton Highway. After the novelty wears off, the scenery is still nice.

We lucked out, got a nice photo op of the (almost) midnight sun on the return.

Beware it is a long day, riding in a bus. And the return trip seems longer, because you saw most of the attractions on the way up. I think there's an added-cost option to continue north beyond the Arctic Circle sign and fly back.

You do need to plan your fluid intake, since the interval between some of the toilet stops is a couple of hours.

Start of tour is well-organized. You meet near the airport, and there were no check-in hassles. Because the Yukon River restaurant is closed (as of July 2021), the tour starts with a trip to a local supermarket to pick up food for lunch and dinner (unless you brought your own).

I would do this tour again. I think there's also a version that leaves earlier and returns earlier. Travelling in the midnight sun sounds really cool, but it's the last couple hours of the trip and I was saturated from the beautiful landscape I saw in the morning and after noon.

Booking a second tour with Northern Alaska Tour Company already!
I loved this tour - I didn't want to drive my own car on the Dalton & this worked out perfectly. My first interaction with this company over the phone talking about the differences in the tours & scheduling one was super pleasant - thanks Cheri!

Parking is $4/Day at a lot across the street that is easy to find.

My tour guide Patrick was extremely kind, funny, and knowledgeable about the history, environment, pipeline, and more. We stopped at places like gold mining operations, the Trading Post that closed a year ago (cute bathrooms and old lemonade stand), the Yukon River Camp, Finger Mountain, and the pipeline itself. We also walked on some permafrost which was a bit wet but very interesting. When we got to the Arctic Circle sign, Patrick rolled out a red carpet for photos which was a nice touch! So happy I can cross this off my bucket list.

He drove very professionally & was able to answer any additional questions myself and the other passengers had. Patrick is definitely a great asset to the company.

A nice surprise was seeing Denali at the end while driving back :)

10/10 would book another tour with Northern Alaska Tour Company again. They offer several driving / flying tours and I'm looking into a second one already!

Great Trip
Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Started out & the air conditioning in the van was malfunctioning. Our guide, Tony, returned to the office & we moved to another van so as to assure a comfortable ride on the long trip. Tony shared a lot of information along the way, answering all of our many questions, & made the long trip even more enjoyable. Saw a lot of beautiful scenery, glad to be on the Dalton Highway, made a stop at the pipeline, to the Arctic Circle & even the frozen tundra. Had lunch and dinner at the Yukon Camp. Food was good for both meals. Worker there was from a town close to my hometown & was friends with my coworker! It is a long trip but totally worth it.

Fantastic Trip - More than we expected
Jun 2019 • Couples
My wife and I both loved this tour. Our guide, Matt, is extremely knowledgeable not only on this tours highlights but has also lived in Alaska for over 30 yrs. Matt uses a variety media, stories and hands on activities to help us understand Alaska, Dalton Highway, people, culture, pipeline construction and challenges. It’s a wonderful tour to take part in if you ever are in the area. It’s soo much safer to travel with them than attempting to travel the Dalton in your own vehicle.

Great Trip
Apr 2019 • Solo
I took this tour on 28th May with Ryan as our guide. He was very thoughtful, knowledgeable and adventurous in his spirit though extremely careful about the safety aspects of driving on the Dalton Highway. The terrain was beautiful and Ryan knew some terrific spots from where we could get a 360 degrees panoramic views of the Alaskan landscapes. Really enjoyed the tour and will highly recommend the tour company and Ryan for this tour!!

Great trip
Had a great time on the bus tour to the Arctic Circle. Our guide Tony did a great job driving and telling the history of the area. We saw some of the most beautiful scenery along the way and got the experience the Dalton Highway, which was an adventure itself. It was a long day, but worth the experience.
