What to expect
As you head north of Fairbanks and across the famous Dalton Highway, the heart of America's largest state becomes a wild land of untamed wilderness and wide open spaces. Comprising river valleys with moose, caribou, and other wildlife, the distant mountains of snow capped granite, the far north is a harsh land with dark, frozen winters and summers full of constant golden sunshine. It is a land of contrast, most accessible and safely visited during a specific, established window each year. Your visit to this quiet wilderness starts at 9 am during the spring and early summer and at 12 noon late in August. After being picked up from your Fairbanks-area hotel or vacation rental, you will meet your driver/guide for the day who will introduce his or herself to you and the rest of the group before leaving the town for your 12 hour trip. Your 15 passenger van may have up to 8 others on the trip, ensuring lots of space and personal attention as you head north beyond the interior.  Over the course of your day, you will pass by the White Mountains and over the Yukon River, passing natural barriers that separate the interior from the pristine boreal forest and wild back country that comprise the majority of the state. You will stop at notable landmarks for photos and further exploration as your guide teaches you the history of the road and the state and you search for the abundant wildlife native to the area. Although snacks and water will be provided, you will need to bring a sack lunch to compliment the items provided by your host. During August, the trip will run later in an effort to capture views of the Northern Lights, returning you three hours later than the normal drop off time of 9:00 pm to downtown Fairbanks for a your complimentary evening drop off back at your hotel or vacation rental.

Bucket List MUST DO
May 2021 • Family
This tour does not disappoint! While the anticipation of reaching the Arctic Circle and seeing all the breathtaking scenery is expected, the 'hidden gem' is your tour guide Mr. Bill. He has spent over 20 years working and traveling this area and is knowledgeable for any and all questions. He is prepared for his guests by way of comfort, safety and entertainment. He was engaging, interactive and the 12 hours flew by.

Thanks Skyfire in Focus and Mr Bill for an awesome experience and creating a family memory that we will reminisce about for years to come

May 2021 • Friends
Left Fairbanks at 9am and got back at 730pm. Had an amazing time with Bill the tour guide. Never a dull moment the entire 10ish hours. We didn’t see too much wildlife but that’s up to the animals. Weather on the route is pretty unpredictable so it was also a little rainy and cloudy in parts but even still some of the views were breathtaking. If you want a personable tour guide who’s very knowledgeable about all things Dalton Highway and Alaska, Bill’s your guy!

Sep 2020
This review is going to be a bit different from others because thanks to COVID our Alaska itinerary had to be modified, and sadly we are unable to make it to Fairbanks. I had booked this tour last year when our trip planning was in the initial stages based on the excellent reviews. When we were forced to delete the Fairbanks portion I communicated that with Mr. Bill. As you can imagine, this small, independent business is totally dependent on tourists, and clearly he took a big financial hit this year. Despite that fact he refunded our money in full, so I want anyone who reads this to know that you are supporting a small business with an owner who is responsive to communications and is HONEST! Based on reviews he provides an exceptional experience, so you can book with confidence. Should we ever be able to return to Alaska (and based on our trip so far, I wish I lived here!) I would definitely start in Fairbanks and book with Mr. Bill again.

beyond expectations, an affecting experience
Aug 2020 • Family
This trip to the arctic circle was a boyhood dream, sparked by pictures of strange trees in an alien setting from our world book encyclopedia. ....decades ago. There's a romance with all the history of the gold rush, crossing the Yukon and reaching the arctic circle. We even got to see the brooks range off in the distance...one of the most wildest, uninhabited places on this planet. But Bill eclipsed all of that, even as rich and rewarding as all those things panned out to be. He develops a relationship by just comfortable conversation. He is interested in people. He has a drive and talent for motivating people to talk about things they care about without making anyone feel that they necessarily have to contribute to any conversation. This tour was not northern lights; too early for that...but that didn't matter. I learned a lot about Central Alaska on this 12 hour journey. So ya see, it's not just riding all day just to be able to brag you made it to the circle.

Awesome!
Love the trip to the Arctic Circle! It was a once in a lifetime experience, very scenic and photogenic, took a lot of pictures. The trip to the Arctic Circle was long but didn’t realize the time because Mr. Bill was such an awesome guide and host. He was very personable and by the end of the trip, we got to know him and felt like family. With him being a professional photographer is an added bonus. He gave us a certificate and souvenir photos. If considering a trip to the Arctic Circle, I highly recommend to book with Mr. Bill! You will not be disappointed. We plan to use him again to take nice photos of the Aurora Borealis.

Excellent Small Group Tour with a Wonderful Guide!
Aug 2019
I took my father on this tour since he has never been beyond the arctic circle. I did a similar tour with a larger company many years ago and was bored to death. This time, I decided to go with SkyFire Tours because of their smaller group size. I was not disappointed.

From before the tour started, Mr. Bill was communicative in answering my booking questions. He was very knowledgeable about Dalton Highway due to his previous work, and he kept us entertained throughout the trip. The smaller van meant it was easy to talk to and get to know your fellow passengers (versus the giant bus we took last time where nobody talked to each other the entire trip).

We also had more time to roam around at each of our tour stops. For example, we arrived at the Arctic Circle sign a full 10 minutes before the other big bus tours, but we didn't leave until the other bus already left. This gave us plenty of time to take photos and stretch our legs.

Speaking of photos. Our tour was not a Northern Light tour, but Mr. Bill still gave us great tips on how to photograph Northern Light. He also gave us plenty of time to take photos. This was the first time I didn't feel rushed to take photographs on a group guided tour. I doubt the big bus tours would do the same.

In conclusion, we had a wonderful experience with SkyFire In Focus Tours. As someone who has done this trip twice with two companies, I definitely enjoyed it this time more than the last time, and I definitely recommend going with Mr. Bill.

P.S. A tip for photographers, the highlight of our trip was photographing Northern Light at night. Arctic Circle is just a sign in a parking lot. So if you don't care about the Arctic Circle, I would recommend checking out his Northern Light photography workshop.

Mr. Bill made the trip to the Arctic Circle a lot of fun and an educational experience. He told us many stories about the Alaska Pipeline, the Ice Road Truckers and many other anecdotes from his first hand knowledge of the reason. He was the consummate professional and great fun to be with. His knowledge alone would make the trip worthwhile. Add to that, the beauty of the surroundings and you have an A++ tour

The highlight of my trip to Alaska
Sep 2019
We took the Arctic Circle tour that started with pickup at noon and ended at midnight in the hopes of seeing the Aurora Borealis on the way back. The trip to the Arctic Circle allowed us to see breath taking scenery. We stopped frequently for picture taking opportunities and rest stops. Bill took photos of us at the sign posts as part of the tour. He shared his vast knowledge with us all along the way. I had little hope of seeing the Aurora Borealis because it was pretty cloudy, but Bill was confident that we would, and we did. He knew just the spot to be away from city lights and there it was. His knowledge of photography helped us be sure we were looking at the right thing in the sky and he even took our photo with the Aurora in the background. I would highly recommend SkyFire in focus for either the Arctic Circle tour or the photography tours.

Beyond Expectations

This was the best tour I have ever been on. 12 hours flies by because you are laughing and talking with new friends. We saw incredible scenery on this small group tour. Mr. Bill was a fabulous host. The Northern Lights were out to top off our trip. If you only do 1 tour, do one with Mr. Bill. You will love it!
