- Sightsee002108330830 contributionsMy wife said it was the highlight of our entire Alask adventureWE had a super time with Tyler and his dogs. Tyler was informative and gave us lots of info on dogs, mushing, racing and the overall experience in Alaska. The ride was great and time with the pups was fun too, Tyler answered any and all questions. We had a terrific experience and would do it again at the drop of a hat.Written September 3, 2024

We really enjoyed our ride by Joe Weber and he was quite accommodating with us considering it was our first time meeting the dogs. Would highly recommend Rod's Alaskan Guide ServicesWritten August 26, 2024
- Ginges_revenge0 contributionsOur first experience with dog sledding. We had done a lot of research for our Alaskan holiday and Rods guide service repeatedly came up and with good reviews. We drove out to Rods and checked in for our tour. The team kitted us out withe good cold weather gear they have. We then waited for our tour time to arrive and we were paired up with our dog musher who took us out to the dog team. We got to quickly meet the team and then got on the sled. Rods hire local people with there teams of dogs to do the tours. We got on and we were off. You go out halfway and stop, meet the dogs and get to pat them and have photos, then its back on the sled and back to base. It was a really good hour and we loved the experience. It was just a shame we couldn't get onto a longer tour but we had fun anyway. I would highly recommend it.Written June 9, 2024
- Ginges_revenge0 contributionsA cool night time experience.Ice fishing had always been a bucket list item that I had wanted to do. In researching the holiday for Alaska, Rods guide service always came up with good reviews. We booked in online and paid and got the confirmation with the location / GPS coordinates. You obliviously need to get there at the designated time and being in the dark, we were a little bit worried getting there. The drive from Fairbanks was about 50 minutes on the Motorway and some snowier "B" roads. We followed the car GPS to Chena lake reserve and found the carpark to the lake. The directions on the booking were excellent and we got there easily. We were met on the lake with our cabin guide. He showed us into our cabin on the frozen, snow covered lake. It seated 16, 4 banks of 4 seats. There was a log fire in the middle. The holes for the fishing were pre drilled and covered. They had all the fishing gear on the walls. We had 6 people in our cabin. We started fishing and it was pretty good to start with and then after 30 minutes the fish stopped biting. We only got 1 fish in our cabin and only 3 in the other cabin. We had a dog sled tour stop into our cabin to warm up. The cabin guide made hot drinks for us when we wanted as well. I was going outside every now and again to check for the northern lights. They eventually came out, but not in there full radiance which was a little disappointing. But that's nature. We still got to see the lights again which was good. We really enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend it.Written June 9, 2024

The place was very crowded to check in, and staff was very nice. Musher was nice, and she was caring for the dogs. - KeoneM0 contributionsGo with Rod, you won’t go wrong.Patient, friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable. All words you want to be able to use in describing a guide. And all words you can definitely use to describe our ice fishing guide, Mike. Went with the family (wife and 2 kids, 12 and 11), and although we didn’t do that well snagging fish we had a good time and enjoyed the experience. Terrific time was had by those of us in the cabin and he cooked up a mean king salmon (caught by more fortunate fishermen) for us to share. Recommended and I would definitely not hesitate to utilize Rod’s Service again.Written April 3, 2024

We ordered Snowmobile Tour for 3 persons one hour before the schedule (2:00PM) by phone.
We were one hour away from the location. We asked for later schedule (after 3:00PM) but they said it's not available. We made upfront payment for $320, then we go there as soon as possible. But we were late for 5 mins.
We met the guide at the location. But he said that we should've arrived 5 mins ago and they decided to go without us. Worst thing is they don't want to give us any refund!!!
Please be careful to use this service. If you don't want to lose your money because of 5mins late. We went to another Snowmobile tour service in the north of Fairbanks. They are very kind. They waited for other customers that came late. They even gave us 2 hours tour while we ordered only for 1 hour.

I will not make other customers receive a short tour/less service because a different customer does not arrive on time. We do make every effort to accommodate late arrivals. We waited as long as possible for the late arrival. The customers, who arrived on time, had other activities booked after the snowmobile adventure and could not finish late.
Before we accepted this booking, the customer was told (and they acknowledged) multiple times that they must arrive by 1:45PM or they would miss their tour. The customer arrived at 2:05PM as the tour departed--20 minutes late not 5.
My CANCELLATION POLICY: 100% refund or free date and/or time changes more than 48 hrs prior to adventure start. Arrive 15 minutes prior to adventure start. Late arrivals are considered no shows and refunds will not be issued.

We booked our Snowmobile Tour and our Ice Fishing Experience with Rod's Alaskan Guide Services, after a lot of comparison shopping. I am THRILLED that we did! Our guide, Dakota, took us on both adventures, and he was amazing! We are a family of 6, with children ranging in age from 16-24, and the Snowmobiling was our family's favorite adventure of our whole trip! Dakota made sure we were safe, but also gave us all the instruction we needed to really have a true adventure and a great time. The scenery was beautiful (of course), but having a lifelong local there to tell us all we wanted to know about the area was a real treat! While my children have no fear, I struggled with the helmet (I'm very claustrophobic), and Dakota very kindly helped me through that. (There's no way he could have possibly known how much that meant to me!). After our tour, we met Rod, who was kind enough to show off his award-winning moose calls!
I can't recommend this fantastic company enough. The folks there clearly care about their customers and love what they do. That makes for a great excursion, and one that is definitely worth taking!

Rod was great leading us thru the woods. He was fantastic at stopping and showing us at least 8 different moose that was in the woods that we would never have notice on our own. Rod was amazing at spotting the wildlife. We read after we had book our tour that the best time to see wildlife is during the first ride of the day. Which is why seeing all the moose (8 of them) that we seen was a blessing as we were on the last ride of the day.
It was beautiful out in the woods, loved the powder snow and also it so much fun to drive a snowmobile. We wished now that we had signed up for the 2 hrs ride which we will do the next time we do this. Rod's Alaskan Guide Service provide all the outer wear and heated helmet that was needed to take this trip.

We did a 2-hour tour in a small group, and it was awesome. The 1st hour was a little bit easier, getting accustomed to riding the snowmobile and terrain, and once the guide dropped off the 1-hr only participants, we were able to go farther and deeper in the terrain and ride in a more aggressive and enjoyable fashion. The guide was great in keeping an eye on the group of 5 snowmobiles.
The snowmobile and all the gear were in fantastic shape. Loved the heated grips on the snowmobile. They provide any missing gear including clothing that you may need in case you are not prepared for the cold experience. We did not need anything but noticed many other customers using their clothing to boots as well.

All of our snowmobile adventures are small groups (6 or less snowmobiles). This allows for a safer/better experience. I have multiple maintained trails that allows multiple groups to depart at the same time and go to different places. Thank you for the review.

Had a great time. I basically had a private tour since I was the only rider. I had a problem with my helmet not defrosting. Aaron was able to fix it by replacing the damaged cord. The heated handle bars were great at keeping my hands warm. I would recommend using their boots, bibs and gloves if are concerned about what you have. I had on lined snowboarding pants and the became wet I guess from the heat of the engine and snow melting. My tour was at 10am in january and it was pretty cold. By the end of the 2 hours I was cold. Take the clothes they have available. I give this tour a 4.5 out of 5 only because there was a problem with the helmet. I would recommend this tour with this company.

For a quick-easy fix; the guides carry spare helmet cords in case a cord breaks--which happens occasionally in cold temps. Thank you for the review.

10/10, would recommend it, especially to speeders and anyone wanting to see some Alaskan nature.
My mom and I went out this past Sunday and had an absolute blast, worth every penny. Our guide, Ryan, did a good job instructing us on how to work the machines, what to do and not do, and taking us around the area. Not only did he take us on the trails, but he took us out to Chena Lake and allowed our group the opportunity to ride back and forth across the ice, took us to see the levees, and even took us to see a caribou carcass (some in our group liked that they could get close and personal, I was happy to look from my machine). I also thank him for being patient when my mom ended up in a snowdrift, and while I got a good laugh I know it's not fun digging the machines out, especially if you do it several times a week.
Make sure to bring sunglasses. The guides will warn you that they fog up if your visor is down, which they do, but when the sun hits the snow it's not fun. I found cracking my visor a bit kept my lenses clear and my face warm.

We use helmets with heated visors that keep the visors from fogging--far superior to using helmets with goggles. We can control the helmet fogging, but folks with glasses may have to keep their visors open a bit to allow cool fresh air in to keep their glasses from fogging. I recommend wearing contacts instead of glasses. Thank you for the review.

We went on the 2 hour snow mobile tour with Rod Jr. as our guide and can say that this experience was the highlight of our trip to Alaska. Rod is a great guide and after appropriate teaching and safety instruction he led us on a great tour of the back woods for our first hour then took us to nearby Chena Lake to play around on some flat surface. He truly tailored the experience to us asking where and what we wanted to see. The thrill of opening up the snow mobile on the lake was unforgettable. Rod got some great video of us driving as well. This is the best snow mobile experience in and around Fairbanks and is run by a very nice family who works hard to ensure comfort and safety on their tours.

We had the fortune of stumbling across Rods organization for a snowmobile tour. The website stuck out as professional, attractive and eye catching. The team took care of me and my family from the moment we arrived. The machines were top notch and our guide did an excellent job of orientation, then she took us through some great trails and out to a safe place to “play” on the frozen lake. My wife, daughter and two grandsons were blown away having never been on a snowmobile. It was such an experience we turned around and did it again the next day and she outdid herself and took us over even better trails and some cool fast fire roads.
If you want a snowmobile experience that you”ll remember Rods Alaska Guide Service is the ticket.

My friend and I did the 1 hour snowmobile our in March. It was awesome! The guides were very professional and fun. The helmets and boots were clean and comfortable to wear, and the get-ready cabin was warm and cozy. The snowmobiles ran great. I was only able to get it up to 48mph but it did have two people on it so they may go faster. We started out on a trail through the woods and then it opened up onto a frozen lake where they let us drive around wherever we wanted for 15mins before returning back to the cabin. It takes quite a bit of strength to turn if you are going fairly fast and you mainly turn with your left arm. Since the accelerator is on the right side, it's hard to fully grib the handle without fully accelarating, which you don't want to do midway through a curve. It was a great experience.

We are coming to Fairbanks the end of May2019. We would love to snow mobile but assume most of or all of the snow will be gone. Can you tell us what other guided services will normally be available ?
Written March 27, 2019
Typically we are open until mid April. The early warm 2019 spring weather has our dog sledding and snowmobile tours closed earlier than normal for the 2018/19 winter season. We will reopen around November when we have 8 inches of snow.
I start guiding fisherman again in June through August.

Hi,
I was wondering if the snow mobile tours leave from Fairbanks or do you need to meet in the North Pole?
Written March 16, 2019
Our hotel in fairbanks was close to the airport and right across walmart and was about 25mins drive to north pole. I was advised to uber or get a cab, but we just rented a car and also visited the santa clause place in north pole.

Good morning,
Just need a quick question answered as we are booking a visit to Alaska from Australia in December...
1. Where is the meeting point for this tour
2. If we stay at the the Borealis base camp, for two days to observe the northern lights, is there a way of getting to/from your meeting point from there?
Looking forward to your reply.
Joel
Written October 31, 2018
All of my tours are conducted in North Pole. 3 miles from the Santa Claus House.
Borealis Base Camp is about 45 minutes north of Fairbanks. It would be about a 50 minute drive from Borealis Base Camp to my dog sledding, snowmobile, and ice fishing adventures.
You would need a rental car or hire a taxi/shuttle company.
