My favorite part was when Aurora showed up and danced the night away for us. There was a dark observation room with glass windows to watch for it while keeping us warm and an easy outdoor access if the lights appear.
We had the best tour guide! Lexi was kind, very professional, knowledgeable and funny. We learned a lot from her, from history of Alaska, Chena Hot spring, northern light phenomenon and Ice sculpture. She was very organized, she briefed us exactly on what to expect and the sequence of events. There wasn’t any boring moment in that 1 1/2 hr drive to Chena. This excursion was so well worth it, had a smooth apple Martini at the ice bar, delicious scallops for dinner, a relaxing dip at the hot spring plus a grand performance of Aurora. Lexi was very generous with her time and accommodating in taking our pictures when the northern light showed up. She got us back to our hotel safely with an unforgettable experience of a lifetime.

Our goal of visiting Fairbanks was to get a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis. And since this package had northern lights viewing and a tour of the Chena Hot Springs, it looked like a good deal. And once we went on the tour, it turned out to be really amazing and completely worth it. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to do a day tour of the hot springs resort and also get a chance to see the lights.

Our guide for the tour was Bob. He was really great all throughout the tour. While driving to the hot springs resort, he made sure that we got a good chance to spot a moose on the way. He even did a roundabout once after someone pointed out that they had spotted one in the woods. At the resort, he showed us around the geothermal plant that they have there and made sure all arrangements were made for the pool, restaurant, and the ice museum tour. At the pool, we were hesitant to get in but Bob insisted and it was absolutely worth it since we got to see the lights while having a dip in the pool, it was outwardly. And for viewing the northern lights, he took us out to an open area beside the resort. Fortunately, the weather and geomagnetic activity were perfect to comfortably spot the lights. It was extremely cold so he had the van parked on the side so we could get in to shed some of that harsh cold. Once all of us got in the van after a few hours, assuming that the lights were done, Bob repeatedly got out of the van to check and see if the lights were still there and let us know if there was a good show happening outside.

We were really glad that we took this tour.

My main reason for booking this tour was to see the northern lights. I came to Fairbanks last year and left disappointed because I didn't get to see them. This time around I made better plans and decided this tour was my best chance. I was picked up right at 5pm from in front of my hotel. I can't remember the driver's name but he did the best he could with trying to get everyone to talk and be motivated on the ride there. The drive to Chena Hot Springs took a little over an hour due to major construction on the road. Once we arrived there was a rush to get everyone checked in so that we would have time to visit the Ice Museum. I had put my swim suit on under my clothes but never made it to the hot springs which is fine because I never really wanted to go. As I mentioned before, the lights were my main objective when booking this tour. I did eat at the restaurant though. It took a very very long time to get seated. Our driver had arranged to get a couple of tables for those of us in the group who wanted to eat. Once the tables were ready, there was another long wait just to order the food. Once we put in our orders, there was another long wait to actually receive them. Apparently they don't have enough employees. I'm not exactly sure how much time passed from the time we walked into the restaurant until we paid for our food and left, but I estimate it to be over two 1/2 hours. Maybe 3. I wasn't really hungry but I needed to do something to pass the time and this took up a lot of time. By the time we paid and walked out there were people rushing to get to the hot springs before they closed at 11pm. It was at this time that our driver came and said he wanted to show us something. He walked us out into the front near the parking lot and there they were. The northern lights! The sky was so clear that we didn't even have to get in the shuttle and drive anywhere to search for them. They put on a show right there in front of us. Caution: A few of us learned the hard way about taking pictures at night or in the dark. I had trouble taking pictures with my iPad. Others had smart phones and didn't know how to use them to get a good shot either. So if you plan on taking pictures and videos of the lights, please learn how to use your phone, camera, iPad, or whatever type of electronics you bring. We didn't leave for another 2 hours or so after this because the driver wanted to make sure we all got what we paid for and also to make sure the lights didn't make another appearance. They did! Overall I enjoyed myself and I finally got a chance to see the northern lights and can now check them off my bucket list. Now on to my next adventure.

Although we did not get to see the Aurora due to the cloud cover, the whole trip was enjoyable. We are glad we took the shuttle from our Fairbanks hotel because it is an hour and a half ride and I could watch the scenery (and moose) instead of concentrating on driving on the snowy road. The driver was very engaging about what we saw along the road. It was also nice to have someone else do the driving at 2:40 AM after the Aurora viewing.

The hot springs themselves were the highlight for us. It was 24 degrees out and the warm water was very inviting and relaxing. We did not want to get out.

The ice museum was fun. We got to see an ice sculpture at work plus enjoy an Appletini at the bar.

We did not eat at the restaurant having been cautioned the day before by a couple who said the wait was an hour and a half. However, at the activity center there are plenty of tables and sell a lot of prepackaged microwaveable foods at reasonable prices and plenty of tables. Or you can bring your own food. After spending a lot at Fairbanks restaurants, this was a welcome change.

The ride to the top of Charlie Dome to view the Aurora was interesting but fun since it was in a military style SUSV (Small Unit Support Vehicle). We were disappointed at not seeing the Aurora but this was due to the cloud cover, which was out of control of the resort. We did spend a lot of time in the Yurt making new friends.

The only thing we would have changed was to schedule the Ice Museum tour earlier than 7:00 PM because it would have allowed us more time in the hot spring. Also, the reservation receipt is a little awkward trying to figure when and where to meet for the various activities. I didn't have an issue but a couple of people on our shuttle did, which is why I mentioned it.

The weather is always going to be a big question mark when seeing the Aurora. Just be aware of that when you are booking.

Good tour, great guide Jake. Started with 4pm pickup, arrived to Chena Hot Springs and first went ice museum, which was interesting (but skip the $15 apple martini). Then dinner at the Hot Springs restaurant - good food, reasonably priced. Then the Hot Springs, good experience - towel provided, but may want to take a hotel towel as extra towel. take water to trip. dress warmly for the northern lights chasing. a 2 hr bus ride. We had a great lights show. Admittedly, that's out of anyone's control, but jake was great in seeking out the lights, pulling the bus over & getting people out to catch the lights - which can come/go within minutes

One of the best experience I’ve ever had in my life and I cannot recommend it enough! Our tour guide Raydene is kind, sweet and wonderful. She’s very knowledgeable and also a great van driver. We traveled in early February when the roads were covered in ice but we felt safe. She also made sure everyone in our tour had warm mittens, and she prepared hand warmers and foot warmers for us. She even gave me her own mittens when I got out of the van to take some photos! At Chena Hot Springs she even volunteered to watch my son while I got out to the hot springs and viewed the aurora. She made sure you see the aurora and will go the extra miles for you to be able to see it and take good photos of it. She also helped to take photos for me. She’s one of the best person I’ve met in Fairbanks and I felt fortunate to have her as my tour guide, twice, in 2 different tours!

Sorry I can’t remember the name of our tour guide, we went on the tour on 3/18 with a full group of 14 people. Our tour guide was super attentive to everyone in the group, paid special attention to guests getting out of the van making sure they don’t slip. Appletini at the ice museum was amazing! He is super knowledgeable and helped us finding all the best spot for northern light photos after Chena hot springs. Definitely an unforgettable trip and highly recommend Alaska wildlife tour!

Nice night out tour to see the Northern Lights. We were picked up at a residence near town. We were driven for about an hour to Chena Hot Springs. The driver was very courteous and truly cared about great customer service. The Ice sculptures museum is beautiful. The Chena Hot Springs facilites are outdated and need to be remodeled to make them more inviting for a clean, pleasant experience. We actually chose to not go into the hot springs for that reason. We instead waited in the hotel lobby until an announcement was made that the northern lights were visible. After about an hour, the lights became visible so we went out to a dark area to enjoy the lights. At midnight we got back in the van to drive back. Along the way, our driver stopped at a scenic spot. It turned out to be the best place because it was completely dark and the Auroras were much brighter there. After a while, we drove back to Fairbanks to get dropped off. This was a good tour and I recommend it, but next time I’d also like to try a trip to just a dark remote location to see the
Lights.

Chena Hot Springs is a must do when in Fairbanks, whether it's during the day or at night. My friend and I opted to do it at night so we can try to see the Aurora lights, but I'll get to that part later. We started off the tour going to the Ice Museum with Bash as our guide and bartender for that part. It's a small little museum but pretty cool. The appletinis served in ice martini glasses were dope but very strong so be warned haha! It's a mix of green apply schnapps and vodka I think it was. I got pretty buzzed with it. We got to smash the ice glasses outside the museum when our time was up, which was fun.

We had reservations for dinner at the resort, booked by our tour guide, afterwards so we head there. The food is quite pricey but yummy--the dinner rolls are complimentary. After that, the hot springs were next. The towels are complimentary and make sure to hydrate before and after going to the hot springs. It was so nice to relax in the water and I had tried to get my hair to frost standing up, but my hair was too long. Because you're there at night though, you can't really see much except for whatever is illuminated by colored lights at the hot springs. It's very steamy so don' expect to see any lights in the sky in there. The locker room and showers of the hot springs though are dirty so make sure to bring shower shoes.

For the finale of the tour, we went to the Activity Center of the resort for the Aurora Viewing Room. Unfortunately, we tried to look for lights for two hours in and outside of the room and saw nothing. It probably just wasn't a good spot to see the lights in general because the KP was higher that night and other people who went to different spots in Fairbanks had seen it. Because there were no lights, we ended up leaving earlier than planned, which was fine because we were exhausted.

Overall, a nice tour that covers must do experiences with provided transportation. I only knocked it down a rating because our tour guide was a bit scattered. Very nice woman but we were only her fourth tour done in general, so she was shaky on the process. We had to search for her a couple times because she didn't tell us where she'd be, so we had no idea where to go and when we were supposed to go the next activity. Like I said though, she was very nice and offered to pull the van over on our way back if the lights decided to make a surprise appearance.

If a day you wanted to do this tour is booked, definitely keep checking because people do cancel. There was only one spot left for the day I went but I needed two spots, so I called the company, and they were able to squeeze us in.

I really enjoyed the ice museum and the Chena Hot Springs. The food at the restaurant was also really good. However, our tour guide, Jake, was not very personable or friendly. He barely talked the entire tour except when we asked him questions. The schedule/itinerary of the day was completely unclear and he didn't communicate with us anything about what we were doing. We were very confused. He did take us to multiple spots on the way home to see the Northern Lights, and did a good job spotting the very faint Aurora behind the clouds so we could see. Overall a decent activity in Fairbanks, but we paid for a tour and did not feel like we received a real tour.
