Pretty unique experience. You go sledding, then have dinner and wait for the lights in a homily little cabin with a great view. The tour guide Joe was accommodating and very personable, pleasant, and informative

The night was first rate from start to finish! Caleb picked us up, we got to meet puppies and the whole sled dog crew, and then watch our musher hook-up our team. Then we went on a fabulous ride -- the night was on the warm side, for Fairbanks in March (about 20F) and so the dogs couldn't go as fast as they wanted. It was fascinating learning about them and watching them in action. An hour for them was a short work out -- so when we stopped the middle crew looked back like, "what? are you kidding us??".

Miriam made us dinner, my husband had salmon (he said it was very good) and they made tofu for me -- it was very good! We shared the night with another group who only came for dinner and Aurora watching, and it was a blast with only 7 of us and all the three (two guides and Miriam). They were all very experienced with dogs, all things Fairbanks, and Aurora watching.

And then, we were SO lucky, after 5 days of clouds we saw a show that was absolutely fantastic! It lasted nearly 2 hours!! We had just enough time for Miriam to get us all pie and ice cream and then sadly, it was time to go.

Highly recommend this touring group, they are fantastic.

Brooks was our driver/van tour guide, Mariam was the chef, and the Dog sledding ride company staffs ( I forgot their names) .. all of them were superb on their professional skills. On top of these, Brooks was funny, and knowledgeable, Mariam prepared some of the wonderful and yummy meals for us, and the dog sledding company were very passionate about the sled dogs wellbeing. Love this tour!
One thing that I have to said is that .. please listen to the staffs about extra protection for your body, and utilizing the clothing and boots that the company provided.. it was a freezing -20 degrees outside during the night.. these items are FREE to use for during sledding. I didn’t listened and I thought I can handle Alaska kind of weather (coming from 70 degrees weather region.). It was really COLD!

The tour was a great combination of activities that we thoroughly enjoyed. We were picked up at our hotel in a timely manner, learned some of Alaska's history and then arrived to do our sled ride before dinner. Beautiful viewing of the lights in a light pollution free environment.

The white 1st Alaska Tour van picked us up on time. Caleb talked about his Alaska experiences while driving to the tour company's yurt some 18 miles from Fairbanks. We went to the rightmost yurt where we left our bags & tripod. The hosts assessed us & helped us prepare for the ride. Jeff, our musher, even lent us a blanket. From the yurt we walked to the kennel which was some 5-10 min away. The dogs were feisty & friendly.

The sled ride was fabulous. Jeff explained mushing & answered our questions. He stopped once & took our pictures. The scene with the dogs silently pulling the sled thru snowy trails, coupled with a moon dog, was truly beautiful and something that can only be remembered fondly but not caught by a camera. It was deinitely cold & fortunately we dressed up appropriately for it.

Food was served in the yurt by Miriam. It was salmon with steamed vegies and dessert. She also told us stories of living in Fairbanks.

We saw the lights but only briefly. I gave this tour only 4 stars because we think they should have disciplined the drunk guy in the group who talked & sang loudly & kept on coughing many, many times without covering.

This tour is highly recommended.

9 pm pickup, friendly driver. Enjoyed meeting the rest of the guests in a comfortable ride to the viewing area, yert and kennels. Staff was friendly and personable. Loved the dogs and opportunities to pet and even hold the puppies. What a hoot to go on a sled being pulled by the enthusiastic dog team. Dress warm!! You’ll be out for an hour and it can certainly be cold. Keep arms, legs IN. The sled moves fast and trees abound. It’s an absolute blast, but be safe. We had a chance to stand next to the musher. Wow, what a view.

Hot meal, good viewing, warm campfire. Enjoy the night! Highly recommend.

What an amazing excursion! The night began with an informative ride to the site. I got to meet the chef, chat with the mushers and meet all the puppies and dogs. The sled ride was beautiful and fun. Next, came a delicious dinner in the yurt with the northern lights in view. It was truly a magical experience!

We did this activity on our first night in Fairbanks, and it was our first time dog sledding. The driver picked us up on time (9pm) in a comfortable warm van, was very knowledgeable and full of amazing stories and info and very friendly. After arriving at the yurt, after introductions to what the rest of the night would entail, we got to play with the puppies then greet the sled dogs while the dog sled guide assembled the troop. Be warned, if you snuggle with the puppies and let the dogs jump up on you, your clothes will stink the rest of the trip! My husband and I were joined by another party of 2, making it less personal than we expected for the price. The sled guide and us 4 got on, and off we went. Be prepared with all your extra warm gear, we got pretty cold sitting for the entire ride! The ride itself was amazing, although we couldn't see any views except what was lit up by the headlamp since it was night. When the guide turned off the lamp and we glided silently over the snow in the dark, it was quite magical and unique experience! Be prepared for the dogs to poop-while-running, things get stinky as you get pulled through it! The dog sled instructor was super nice, easy going, and told us tons of information about everything. We both got the opportunity to co-lead the sled, although the instructor didn't really give us a chance to really control the dogs except braking which you basically don't need to do. I found myself not having a very good footing on the side of the sled where only one of the sled guide's legs should go and was afraid I would fall off during the turns as the dogs are quite powerful and pull us very quickly and easily. It was amazing how strong they were! I am sure the sled ride itself did not last a full hour, but we did get a chance to stop and take photos. After we got back, we found that the meal was only beginning to be cooked. You'd think they know their timing to have the food at least almost ready by the time the tour is back! We then waited about an hour, pretty hungry, and when the food was prepared it was very underwhelming and did not taste the greatest, with quite small portion. It was home made which was a nice touch though. I was still hungry after my full plate and were not offered extra despite them packing up the leftovers. Having hot coffee, tea, and hot chocolate was great, although I felt I was being bothersome due to having to ask to make another cup a few times. The dog sledding and eating were done around 11:30pm-midnight, so that left another 3 hours of time we "paid for" which involved chatting and waiting for the aurora in the yurt. Unfortunately, cloudy day means we didn't get a chance to see the lights and the rest of our party wanted to head back early around 2am. They did not offer any aurora viewing or photographing advice, so even if we did have a chance at seeing it, we wouldn't have an optimized experience capturing it. I would skip on this tour if I were to dog sled again, and go for another during the daytime which is longer to get the most out of a dog sledding experience. Leave the dinner and aurora-viewing out of the equation and reduce the price by half and it would make much more sense! The driver took us back straight to the hotel which was great too!

Robyn was an amazing host and a guide for this once in a lifetime experience. She was on time to pick us up at the hotel and from the time she met us, she made sure to make us comfortable and ready for our adventure ahead. Robyn was very knowledgeable about Fairbanks, auroras and many other things. She even helped us with our camera settings when we started seeing the Auroras.to capture the best shot. Bob & Liz was our Musher and he was awesome, very knowledgable, so many stories and made our dog sledding experience one of the best. Maryam cooked us dinner at the yurt, she too was an amazing cook and she had so many stories to share with us about Alaska. All of them made us feel right at home. High recommend 1st Alaska Tours for your Fairbank experience and try to get Robyn to be your guide and you will not regret it.
